  1. I say there should be a bounty or at least an open season on those that go around and shoot stray dogs.
  2. I am not a vegan. I eat meat, and even if I were a vegan, I would be responsible for killing plants for food. Taking the life of another being for food is not the same as taking it for your convenience. Taking another being's life for food is a necessity. All life is sustained by the taking of other life. I do think it's not only "perfectly ok" but our responsibility to see that soi dogs, and all animals, are not killed just for the convenience of humans. We're not better than them. We should not act that way.
  3. I've lived in Thailand for over twenty years, and I've been married to a Thai woman over 15 years. but, yes, I do believe I am a guest in this country. And, by the way, I have 14 dogs, all strays which we "rescued" from the mountain road which runs by our property.
  4. I'd say feed both, but I'd favor the dogs since they have no other source of food.
  5. I have no problem with anyone retaliating against anything that hurts them or puts them in peril, as long they are not provoking the attack. That goes for soi dogs, snakes, tigers, alligators, and humans. What I do have a problem with is people who just lump all soi dogs together as dangerous pests and initiate the violence. If you have 60 stray dogs in a 6km stretch, you have a lot more of a problem than just the dogs. You're living in an area with irresponsible humans.
  6. I'm saying humans everywhere, wherever they come from, do not have the right to kill animals just for their convenience.
  7. Yes, and there's a name for all those that think all soi dogs should be killed - narcissist.
  8. It's their turf. They're Thai dogs. You're just an annoying Farang. ????
  9. A human, even without a rifle, harms and kills many more animals than dogs harm or kill humans. ????
  10. "Bad guys" injure and kill many more animals than animals injure or kill humans. I say, lock him up! ????
  11. Yes, I do a lot of the things you mentioned, so I guess, by your definition, I am a sheep. ???? What are you? A solitary, lone lion? ????
  12. I agree with what you've said above, and I do think it will lead to a lot of violence. Maybe not a full-blown civil war, but something close to that involving a lot of individual and small group actions. I don't think the losing side in the next presidential elections will accept the election results, no matter which side it is. I'll be watching it all on CNN from my home tucked back up in the jungles in the mountains of Phetchabun.
  13. I'm a US citizen and have lived in Thailand for over 20 years. I have no intention of ever returning to the US to live there. I think especially now, with the extreme division in the US between liberals and conservatives, especially "Trump conservatives," there will be open violence there - some after the next, upcoming elections, and certainly a lot after the next presidential elections in just over two years. ????
  14. To correct your assumptions on what I said... What I said was it is possible that the one attacked by a dog (child or adult) may have done something to provoke the attack, or some other humans may have previously done something that caused the dog to be angry or fearful, leading to the attack. My questions in that post were, why would the dog attack? And maybe the answer is that particular dog is just very aggressive, like a sadistic human. If that's the case, then eliminating that dog is okay with me, but killing the entire pack because of the actions of one or two dogs is not acceptable to me. The rhino, IMO, was killed for fun. There could have been some other reason, but I don't think it was killed for food. It might have been that rhino had been eating crops. In that case, it was killed for convenience. There is even a million-to-one chance that the rhino may have killed someone while on a rampage. In that case, like the case of the dog above, I would not condemn killing it. But, just having the photo as evidence of what happened, I'll put my money on "fun." ????
  15. In the case you cited, I would have no problem with having the dog that bit you killed. What I would not approve of is killing the entire pack because of the actions of this one dog.
  16. I've lived in Thailand in various places, including Bangkok, for over 20 years. I now live in the mountains of Phetchabun Province. I've never experienced the "soi dog pack mentality," but still don't believe the remedy for that should be killing them all.
  17. I agree with most of your post, however, most domesticated food animals are not kept or killed humanely. My point is killing and eating one animal is no better or worse than killing and eating another animal or plant. It's something we need to do to survive, but, as you say, should be done humanely.
  18. Well, then, we agree again, I think. IMO, dogs are not more "worthy" than other animals. Killing and eating a dog is no better or worse than killing and eating a pig, turkey, fish, or carrot, or even another human. We may not agree with that last point, but I understand that. It's always a tendency of a species to value beings of the same species more than others. And with that, I'll say good night. I hope you have a good sleep and are not bothered (or mauled) by howling soi dogs.
