  1. Please, can a real journalist look into a few basic questions and publish in a major newspaper?

    1. Is it true that the victim's phone was handed over to police by her friend the day after the murder? Is this is same phone the police claim was found behind the room belonging to the suspects?

    2. Since the suspects worked at the very same bar that the victims were at that night, and since they didn't flee, how is it possible that the initial blanket DNA tests did not find a match?!?

    3. Is it true that relatives of prominent families on the island were exempted from giving DNA? If so, why? What law requires poor people to give DNA, but excuses rich people.

I know there are many, many more unanswered questions, but these stand out for me.

I would happily donate to a legal fund for defense for these guys. Perhaps an NGO can set that up here?

The best suggestion yet. If a defence fund is set up I would be willing to chip in, especitally if it involved privately investigating the real culprits.

It needs to be done quickly because with the confessions and doctored DNA evidence the authorities will want to get

this affair swept under the table

  2. If u put 400k in atm on street, then update book. And then go next day take 100k from atm and next day 100k until u take 400k back in 4 day. Never update book so its still 400k on it. And then go 3 months later showing that book? Would that works? I mean i got friend who need to use that 400k...

The bank letter confirms the balance. Bank book must be updated on date of application to show money has been in the bank for 2 months.

Even taking the money out of the bank during the 30 day under consideration is not advisable because immigration has been known to call the bank to check the balance before giving the final approval.

Agreed absolutely got a call from immigration after about 3 weeks, so sorry application lost please come in with docs and do a new one. Had withdrawn B400K week after making application luckily was able to get a letter confirming balance in a time deposit account

  3. I had the same problem last year. CM immigration did not want to know and told me to get a letter from the Brit consulate, as I did not want to become responsible for paying off the UK national debt I gave that a miss.

I snuck back to the traffic office in Maeteng and asked again , I think its an either or situation, and with an armful of papers they agreed. I think the yellow book was accepted as proof of residence, just be patient but insistent and don,t give up.

I also arranged to get a motor cycle license whilst I was at it ,that was hilarious especially taking the driving test.

The provisional I year License is about 100 Baht but when you get your new 5 year license it will cost you all of 500 !

    good luck and enjoy

  4. There is a shop that might seem new as they keep opening and closing called Bikemall up the road from Pantip Plaza almost at moat. I'm not recommending them or not recommending them just FYIing. I've never seen any used bikes but never looked either but they serviced (just cleaned really) my bike by taking it all apart and then closed the shop to turn the upstairs into a guest house instead of first just finishing my job and then they closed for a number of other reasons (none I believed like he said he was in the hospital around one of the big holidays but couldn't tell me which hospital or what was wrong with him) while my bike was still not put together and finally put it back all wrong with pieces upside down etc. Buyer beware!

Behind Prince College there is a number of used bike places but just check what your buying as I've seen bikes there used priced higher than the same model new.

KSK Sports World this week they have some on sale (26" wheel and they say free size frame - lol) for around 6,000 bht from over 10,000 bht that look decent, buying new is always a good idea here if you know the way many upkeep their possessions here.

I've been looking for a used Mt Bike for my son, 24" wheels or 26" w/smaller frame (13-14") with no luck, so if anybody has one or knows where to get one pls do tell!

We just bought a couple of bikes in Chiangmai, it was a bit more of a run around than I expected.

We checked out bike Mall but they were too expensive , about 15,000 up for mountain bikes.

The one way street that runs from the moat to the Wororot market has a number of cycle shops mostly parts but also new bikes.

I got a big size road bike with 21 gears for B7,200 and the wife got a 24 speed mountain bike with shocks and disc

    brakes for B7,500

    good luck

  5. Get yourself a usefruct costs only a few hundred baht and in the event that your wife dies before you then you still have the right to live in the house until you die, all legal and all above board with no need of dodgy shell companies and lawyers, very easy to do and only takes a couple of hours at the land office.....

have you got a link to download the blank usefruct form from ? many thanks

  6. I am looking to buy a condo in the university area of CM.

From past experience with flats I have found a huge difference between well and badly run complexes. Badly run complexes can take years to turn round .

Any experiences of owners on the forum?

The main points from my point of view are community fees and the standards of maintainance repair and cleaning.

I am looking for a condo in the 35 to 45 sq meter range.

Any experiences in this field welcome.

    many thanks

  7. I usually get my tea in Mai Sai,

    5 bags for 100 baht

they appear to come from china (no Roman or Thai script) and seem to be green, jasmin or oolong

can usually tell from the outside of the package which is which,

quality and quantity vary, the equivalents at the Wororos Road market in CM are 35 a packet,

I have found Jasmin to be my consistent favorite for morning and afternoon drinking.

In January I went through Mai Salong on the border run .

Tasted some local Red tea that originated from Taiwan, 100 baht a bag ,assured that no ´medicine´ was used on the crop,

Lovely tea giving a real lift

will try to get some more

I asked about Red Tea at Wororos market was told oolong red tea !

guess its back to Mai Salong

  8. We were on the late train BKK to CM on Thursday night.

Bumped out of the air con sleeper because of a ticketing error we "enjoyed" the night in 2nd class fan.

Running a couple of hours late we got nicely gassed by thick grey exhaust smoke from the engine in the tunnel.

Well a derailment would have added to the spice.

But it is one of "the" railway journeys of the world chugging through virgin rain forest and steep valleys.

They are doing a lot of track work so problems will continue until its finished.

15 hours to CM so the train speeds are realistic considering the track, accidents are not too serious and quickly sorted out.

but next time she who gets car sick and likes the train has decided we take the bus.

  9. The police forestry area behind our house will no doubt have its organised burn off over the next few weeks,

that way the leaf litter will not accumulate to present a serious fire hazard in future years. Yes there will be some smoke but not as much as if the villages go up in a conflagration. I think everyone understands that around here.

  10. Bangkok is just too much of a sprawling metropolis for this to work well. I rarely, but occasionally, have been turned down, usually because the destination is too far. Personally, I don't like to be in a taxi with a driver who really doesn't want to go there.

Some drivers are rather nice and will tell you they don't know the area very well and will ask if you know the way. If not, then they would rather not go. One very nice driver actually flagged down another taxi driver to take me to my location.

Add to that the taxi service in Bangkok is the cheapest of any capital city, the aircon cabs always available and the cabbies friendly and not expecting big tips.

Perhaps Bangkok should experience the standards and service of the Phuket Tuk Tuk mafia to know how lucky they are

  11. As well, I had to get the village Puy Yai Baan to front up and acknowledge that I indeed lived at address as stated.

Same as that, no one from the Amphur seemed to know what to do and there was quite a lot of backwards and forwarding with the Tessaband. Not much problem once an ambitious career lady took on the job, her main demand was a family portrait of me wifey and Mama . She later came to the house and got me to sign the photos, then delivered the yellow book personally about 3 weeks later. Not sure what was going on

  12. This puffer fish poison fish ball thing has been around for years. Last story was about coppers finding a truck on its way to Bangkok markets loaded with two tons of puffer fish meat. No newspaper follow up was ever observed. Seconding other posts, stay away from fish balls - street or packaged.

The puffer fish flesh is cheap, so the Thais try to use it instead of other non lethal fish.

Puffer fish is one of the most expensive delicacies in Japan and is eaten raw.

parts of the fish like the liver and gall bladder are extremely toxic and many people have died from eating flesh that has become contaminated by these organs.

In Japan specially licensed chiefs prepare the fish and it is said that if a chief serves a client contaminated fish he is honour bound to commit hari kari with his fileting knife .

Maybe applying such standards to Thai fish processors may solve the problem of contamination

  13. Kev, if you were serious about getting the Spanish Documentation together for yourself. I think you could do it in about 3 months but you would have to allow6 in case of a hold up with the Residencia.

You would need to come to Spain take a 6 month rental contract get your NIE, from the Policia National, which if I remember only requires the passport and rental contract, then the empardomento from the aunemiento *local council* where you will need the NIE. After you can get a residencia again from the officna de extrajeros of the Policia National using basically the same documents. You should then have enough documentation to go back to BKK and obtain a family reunion visa for the wife.

Just one warning the above documentation does not cover any health education or social services and that could be an issue as they are really cutting back on the funding to all those services, the consulate in BKK may ask that question.

A lot of people do homework on the costa del sol as there are cheap flights from malaga

  14. Yes guys, intending to spend a month moving around so no main destination, that's why it doesn't matter which country is the first to arrive in.

So any other experience on applying in other coutries beside France?

Spain? Germany? Holland? Poland? Hungary? Greece? Italy?

we got a visa for Spain but it was very unpleasant dealing with the Spanish Consulate in BKK.

Our flight was diverted to Geneva, so that was the entry point. no problems at all as we had been issued with another ticket for Madrid.

Suggest that if you do not enter the Schengen at the country that issued the visa that you have an onward ticket .
