  1. The Mitsubishi garage will move to what was used to be a shop selling second hand cars.

It's along the Highway, before the Maekok bridge when leaving CR City, on your left, next to this red/white tea shop called Pokhun Mournlee, opposite the gas station and before the traffic light. Oh and it's a a corner unit. They are rebuilding it now and it's going to be managed by the Muanthong Auto Mall team.

  2. Okay, if you don't mind going out of town.

Opposite the Rajabhat University you can find 2 storey shop houses for 5000 Baht.

At Denha area I heard of 6000-10000

and there are plenty (also new ones) around Sankhong Noi and Sankhong Luang, but I'm not sure about the price.

I think I need to dissapoint you with finding shophouses for less than 5K.

Good luck and inform us when and where you found yours :o

  3. yes, but it's small. I never really notice it when passing it...

But that's the shortcut to the other side.

Oh I forgot to mention: please take in account that it takes 1 to 1.5 hour by longtailboat, to get from the Mae fa Luang bridge (the boat station) to the Karen village.

  4. Yes, Baan Karen Ruammit is opposite the hot spring & spa, where you took the picture. But you can not get there unless you roll down the hill, splash into the Maekok and swim to cross this rough streaming river...luckily this river is not so deep as...the Great Maekhong river.

Or drive at least another 20 km. in the direction of Chiang Rai, turn left (When Don's Cafe is on your right) in the direction of the jail and then follow the signs " Karen Ruammit elephant camp".

And yes, you can do this trip without a guide. But if not getting there by longtail boat, you really need to have good transportation. It's 20 km's away from the city and there's not much light along that road.

Oh and another thing! When you go to the elephant camp, just ask the people to wait for you as long as you want to spend your time there. Just pay them "the waiting time" so you're assured that you'll have your transportation back.

And if you go in the morning/ day time and have some time left...check out the national park there just around the corner (about 10 minutes away from Baan Karen Ruammit). The name is: Huai Mak Liam National Park, where you can find a beautiful turquoise colored hot spring, a large pond full with waterlillies (my favorite :D ) and many Eucalyptus trees with its colors and some useful and interesting information about the landscape of Chiang Rai mountain/ national park area at the visitors center (not open on Sundays).

And for a nice lunch, you can stop at that resort that used to be "naranchula resort" (not sure about that, it has been a long time ago). The new name sounds like Tamachart resort and they have their resort and restaurant at the riverside (2 minutes away from the national park). It's really nice and quiet over there. And next to that Resort you can find Phasert hot spring, where you can take relaxing mineral baths for 30 bath at the public pool or 70 baht for a private room.

All worth to see and do. I did it all what's mentioned above and that's the way...ahuh ahuh... I like it :D ahuh ahuh!

    Happy exploring!

  5. I believe that shop closed at least a month ago and moved to Sankhongnoi road, close to the 7/11, Sabun Nga hostel and Le Petit Cafe coffee house.

The name of the shop is Doi Kham (a royal project), offering organic grown vegetables.

That same shop/ brand you can also find next to the Highway, from Chiang Rai to Mae Sai, around Sri Khum area (Mae Chan), where you find the factory that produces jam and fruit juices, on your left hand.

I also noticed organic vegetables and products were sold on the Saturday walking street, close the entrance of Damrong School.

And Kawporn Hydrofarm offers a variety of hydroponics (lettuce, tomatoes and herbs). Their farm is close to the Doi Kham shop in Srikhum-Mae Chan. You can also get their products at the Deli shop, behind Da Vinci restaurant downtown.

And you can get many organic grown veggies at the local market...

Well that's all I know for now, regarding organic products.

    Good luck on your search!

  6. Hi,

There's a family resort in Mae Sai. They have a big swimmingpool and a slide for kids. Not sure if they have a playground, but it seems very child friendly and quiet, so you can spend some quality time with your family. And I remembered they were pretty good in price, about 600THB for some clean rooms.

The name is Wanliya Resort and runned by Leo, a master baker from The Netherlands. He makes the best croissants and you'll definately get some when staying there. Unfortunately I do not have their website, only his phone number: 081-9528291.

Oh and I remember, there is a child friendly guesthouse/ home stay just outside Chiang Rai City. Also with a swimmingpool. Their name is easy: Homestay Chiang Rai, just google it, they have a website.

    Good luck.

  7. Hello all,

Haven't been here in this forum for a long time and noticed that Pheon is banned by thai visa, for giving out information... :o

They happen to be good and honest people and if you need to know anything,

you can PM me and I can give their contact details for the reliable and english speaking lawyer here in Chiang Rai.

    Take care,

    :D Lilly79 :D

  8. There is a nice Thai lady who speaks good english and gives cooking classes.

Her name is Suwannee. I noticed her flyer at Doi Chaang Coffee House and had a little chat with her.

She also takes you to a local market to do some shopping for the cooking class.

Her cooking classes are not expensive at all, comparing to the ones at the Hotels/resorts.

She also mentioned arranging little trips around Chiang Rai.

That time I was very interested and saved her flyer, still have it.

Please PM me when you need her phone number.

  9. There is a new information website about Chiang Rai. It is called Pheon Group. (just google and you find it)

This is the 3rd time you have touted these people. First was Pheon homes, now the "Group" .. where they seem to be selling tours and spa services ..

.. and 2 pages about C'rai plus a link to Wikipedia. Not what I would call an " .. information website .."

Are you associated with this "Group"? Friends with the owner?

At least there is a positive group of people here in Chiang Rai starting this not so long ago to promote Chiang Rai.

What's your problem? Are you checking on people? :D

I've been reading your posts....I must say: Can you be positive about anything???

You can help them instead of critisizing. Be positive, that would make life so much brighter. :o

    :D Good luck! :D

  10. Don't know when you are coming to Chiang Rai city, but there is a Flower Festival at the Chiang Rai Beach till the 6th (free entrance, lots of flowers and people, all kinds of hilltribes are represented, a contest in best flowerbouquets, stands where they sell all kinds of stuff, plenty of food and drinks, nice atmosphere)

After that there will be food festival at the old airport. Have no idea how it will be like, quess it will be fun with lots of thai.

Visiting temples are free. The white temple "Wat Rong Khun" ia worth the visit. Very impressive and different. About 12 km. out of Chiang Rai city (in the direction of Chiang Mai).

And In Mae Salong there is this temple (I can't remember the name, but it's somewhere in the chiang rai forum, there is a nice temple on a hill. but you need to climb 720 stairssteps to get up there.... very nice view up there!

In Mae Sai (before you do all the shopping) you can climb up this nice hill where you get aerial view over Myanmar and Mae Sai city.

You can take busses or tuktuks instead of hiring some one from a touragency. You can get free maps almost every where: bookshops, hotels, tourist information etc.

What would you like to see?

I don't know much about the prices of guesthouses or hotels. My friend stayed in Baan Bua (for 200 baht a night) and some one else in Primada (near the Highway for 500 baht). But I guess downtown there are guesthouses for cheap.

Good luck on your search and your visit to Chiang Rai.

  11. Can you imagine the 1 million THB for 1 rai I mentioned was for out of town?! :o

But then the electricity- and waterconnection is most of the times included.

When you buy land with nothing on it, it can be cheaper.

At least its cheaper than Bangkok, Chiang Mai etc.

Chiang Rai is cheaper, but it's not for free.

:D Good luck on your search! :D

  12. Thanks for adding more information on this topic.

The celebration was great and there were SOoooooooooooooooooooo many people!!!

WOW!!! :D amazing! :D Had no idea they celebrate it this way.

Great atmosphere. :o Lots of hot air balloons and fireworks.

Very nice to see the "ceremony" with the Loi Kratong. As many families are getting around by the water and "pray" first and then release their kratong.

But what my question really was actually the story they played on stage. With some kinda Thai historical figures and a man and a woman, some look a like guards.

It looked like a Romeo and Julliet play or something like that? (could be that I'm so wrong....) :D

Does anyone knows what I mean and can tell me more about that story?

  13. Hello Chiang Rai!

I've been here a couple of months and have not celebrated Loi Kratong before. I will be at the Mae Fha Luang bridge tonight to celebrate this. :D

I hear a lot of short stories about Loi Kratong, but can't make 1 story out of it. Is there a real story about Loi Kratong??? :o

Would be grateful if anyone here, could tell me what the real story is about Loi Kratong.

    :D HAPPY LOI KRATONG! :D

  14. I have been to the female dentist yesterday, after reccomandations on this forum and was very suprised!

She was very friendly, to the point and a some social talk afterwards. (I noticed two cats...that's not too much?!)

But her, taking time for you, try to explain what was going on and charge not that much, convinced me to visit her when ever I need a dentist again.

So, Anyone new and looking for a dentist, she should be the one you should visit. Eventhough there is no English on the outside of her studio (except the big Oral-B sign ), this dentist speaks English.

The one I refering to is the one on Trirat Road, on the west side of the main market. Good luck! :o

  15. Does anyone know someone who can come to my house in Chiang Ria and give me help with some computer problems? Hopefully the tech should know some english but that isn't absolutely required. If you can supply a name and telephone number that would be helpful. If not, the name of a shop where I might hire someone would be OK.

    Hi,

I had some problems with my computer too. It did not start at all and I was so afraid all my files were gone!

Then I heard from a friend of mine, that she new some one who knows what to do.

I will look up what his phone number is and will pm you. But you can also try to mail that guy on his website.

    {URL snipped; not allowed per forum rules. Please PM member for details}

    Good luck!

  16. Hello Brothers ,

I am in need of help in the form of info here . Time is ticking and i surely like the karaoke thinggy . At least some entertainment . Anymore info will be very helpful . Thanks . :D

    Why only brothers?! :D:D

In case you want a sister share her experience with you, read the following info. :D

A couple of weeks ago I went up there with my family and we found the hills and mountainviews very beautiful. On the way up the Doi, there were many "viewpoints", where you can stop and just have a look around. There is a Oolong tea plantation, where you can see how the bushes grow and the leaves being plucked. We even got invited to see inside the " fabric" , how they dry the leaves and put them in the machines. very interesting.

The place/city Mae Salong is not that big, so I think you'll see it all in2 days. You can also climb up a stair which has 718 steps leading you to a big temple (I can't remember the name of it), but you can see it from far away. It was not open that time, so maybe you can share your experience up there after your visit?

When you go down again, you'll pass a nice natural Chinese square/garden where they have this big restaurant/ karaoke singing place with nice red lanterns and a view down the hill. Here you can order some nice Chinese food. But be aware of what you order......it might be too much money for what you get.

Around the main street there are many tea shops, where you can " try" different kinds of tea. The samples are free when you buy some tea. Very nice to try.

This is about it. A very nice place to be, but I wouldn't want to stay there for a long time. I f I were you, take your family down to the province Chiang Rai, there is so much more to see! Have fun and please tell me what you saw inside the temple would you?

  17. Hi Grover ,

On Singhaclai in the direction of the King Mengrai Statue(about 200 meters before the statue when you come from the police station) , there's a big 2 store stationairy shop on your right, called Munich. It has pretty much everything.

Good luck with finding the sheets.
