  1. My Thai wife is not with me because of my money. In fact she has more than me.

If you look for good middle and upper class Thai ladies they exist in droves. With

careers, jobs, money and no bf or husband. But don't expect them to behave like

a farm girl girl working in NP.

  2. Go ahead and have a laugh but I have a friend......

Seriously, the wife of a friend is considering a move here but needs access to some heavy stuff:

    Lithium (Eskalith CR) 450gm

    Cymbalta 60gm

    Risperidone 2gm

    Buspar 15gm

    Cogentin 10gm

since I am inanely happy i have no idea about this stuff. Anyone with

    knowledge please respond.

    Where to get?

    How much roughly?

    thanks in advance

  3. Another day on the island of crime and death.

Of course, this happens at every top holiday destination in the world.

(Had to say that or this may turn into another Phuket bashing thread).

    RIP poor lady.

Could be worse - you could live in New Orleans, with the highest murder rate of any city outside Latin America - with 58 murders per 100,000 population. I bet Phuket seems pretty safe compared to that.

Why aren't the US authorities doing more to clean up the murder rate? And why aren't Embassies around the world warning tourists about the high murder rate in the USA? Shocking.

    Very good point.

I'll tell you why. Because the crimes committed in New Orleans are mostly in black neighborhoods and black on black. New Orleans is also a corrupt city - very much so in relationship to other US cities. In many ways it could be compared to Pattaya or Phuket. Gangs, corruption, tourism etc. Too bad Katrina couldn't finish off the job properly. Been there 5 or 6 times, its a cesspool. Would never go back.

  4. Thanks to some you for your insightful & relevant comments. As to be expected, the self-appointed age police have crawled out from under their rock to proclaim my post has it’s origins in an age difference, between me and the lady in question. Apparently, they also feel qualified to pronounce judgment on my emotional frame of mind in this matter, claiming I am paranoid. This board is littered with the derogatory comments of one poster in particular, whenever he (or she) sees an issue that, in his opinion may somehow besmirch the sterling character and behavior of Thai women. This is not really a Thai women issue, but is a matter of appropriate accountability that I would expect in any relationship.

Contrary to their expert opinions, this issue has nothing to do with age, but is relevant to the standards of integrity that one might expect from a close personal relationship. Fortunately, a couple of posters have indicated that they would view the lapses in phone response I have described as suspicious. In fact, one stated he would tolerate no such behavior, even on one occasion. I would give this lady a bit more leeway, since we have not clearly defined the nature of our relationship and what each other expects.

I consider this a serious matter, because it has happened several times and usually on these weekend visits to the “parents”.

Next time have another Thai call the parents and ask for her.....

  5. A young Thai ladies phone is almost glued to her ear , no answer in 4 hours , she is otherwise occupied , goes to the village every week-end , this is NOT normal , cut yor ties now or have the golden ring inserted in your nose , there are more available , willing ladies in Thailand than you could hope to service in a life-time . A lady would do this to me only one time , remember the golden rule 'He who has the gold makes the rules' .

You only come this way once , use your time to the best of YOUR requirements and needs , never become a slave to a Thai , NEVER .

    Best advice ever....

  6. UPDATE:

I went to the US Embassy on Tuesday:They had a report there as sent by the Koh Tao police. I explained the situation:

    1) The passport belongs to the US Govt. and they want it back

    2) The dispute is between myself and the shop - however the US Emb. called there and tried to reason/bargain with them

on my behalf - no go. They want the whole enchalada.

    3) The embassy has given me a replacement passport pending their pursuit of my original

    4) The shop (Thai as far as I know - or at least run by Thais) is going to sue me and will inform Thai Immg.

and thus try to keep me from traveling out of Thailand.

    5) I am contacting a lawyer tomorrow or tonight to handle this fo me or give me a letter for Imm etc.

    6) I go to Thai Immg tomorrow to get my visa stamps replaced.

the saga continues...updates to come as they occur.

    3. So, it went the way I wrote in my post #25. You got a Laissez Passer Document.

    4. If they want to sue you they need A. a Lawyer (are there any good Lawyers on Ko Tao ?) and B. They need your address.....Pure bluff is you ask me.

    5. Don't hire a Lawyer until you face the problem; in other words, don't spend money unless necessary.

Did you ask the US Embassy to phone to the local Police (also) instead just the rental shop ?

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Requested-Pa...30#entry2255930

    LaoPo

Yes the Embassy called the Police. The passport however, is in possesion of the SHOP. When I left the police had it. I assume they gave back to the shop owners after I left.

  8. Next time, rent from a falang. :o

Thailand would be a paradise if falang ran the place...too bad there was never any colonization here.

Joke of the day, you ain't got a clue mate.

If Thailand was a Farang run country, not many Farangs would come here, they wouldn't be able to afford it so easily, and if they could why would they come here, there would be less poor people to exploit, they'd all be on the Social Security just like they are in Farang run Countries.

Yeah don't tell me, there would be millions of single men travelling thousands of miles from all over the globe to visit temples. :D

    Dream on! :D

I didnt say frang govts. I said farangs! You know like you and I!

You didnt come for the temples?!

  9. Just a guess the Bike rental place is at the top of the High street in Mae haad on the right hand side....? (looking up hill)

If so you wont get it back . Just Tell your embassy the truth... Believe me the police are equally as pissed off with them ,but I'm guessing you as everyone before you signed a rental agreement stating the charges.

I feel for you but don't waste your energy accept it and get a new passport its easier than dealing with these <deleted>"""wits.

On another note apart from the a++ hole bike rental did you enjoy Koh tao.

    No its...

    OWEN BIKE

Mae Head Rd. Sairee Beach. (just south of 4 way intersection)

As you head north it is on the left - opposite a petrol/gas station and next to Family Mart type place.

  10. Next time, rent from a falang. :o

Thailand would be a paradise if falang ran the place...too bad there was never any colonization here.

on an interesting note...my friend and I had a Burmese waitress as we waited for ferryout of hel_l and we both noticed a marked

difference in personality and "where with all" she had when compared to almost any thai. I also found the same thing when visiting

Cambodia. Thais really are lagging in terms of personality, knowledge, social skills(with foreigners) when comapared to other SE Asians.

Its quite noticeable when you have lived here for a while.

  11. thanks for all the quick and informed replies....

now my wife has 2 police friends and a lawyer friend on the case! I hope to get this resolved through these channels without having the embassy involved. I will report the black market thing....

please all..continue to give me your advice - in case my wifes channels come out empty.

    thanks to all!!!!!!!

  12. 1) Report your passport as stolen, not lost

    2) Go to your embassy with that report and request a new passport. You can tell your story there if you like, but it is not the embassy's task to do anything about it.

    Lessons learned

    1) Carry a photocopy of your passport to use for this type of situation (rental, etc)..."Sorry, this is all that I have with me"

    2) When renting a motor vehicle, always do a walkaround with an agent, noting any existing damage, scratches, etc.

I seriously doubt that she can have your passport "blocked" (or BLOCKED)

Thanks but if I report as stolen, then switch stories will that not raise a red flag at the embassy...by the way. My passport is on Koh Tao and I am in Bangkok now.

  13. I just returned from Koh Tao. Upon returning an ATV to the shop owner they have tried to hit me up for 24K baht for what amounts to a few superficial scratches on an old and piece of crap bike. I refused to pay that ridiculous amount. I did offer 10K baht just to get rid of the situation but that was refused. The shop owner bragged about doing this to other tourist and said she would have my passport BLOCKED and I couldn't leave Thailand. The shop also mentioned that if I dont pay that she can sell it for a lot of money (black market).

We went to the police who did nothing. They made a report but no real action taken. MY wife later called (Thai) and the police told her that this shop will charge at least 4 times what is a reasonable fee. The police report just states that the owner will return my passport when I pay 24K baht.

    QUESTIONS:

    1. Can I get a replacement at the US Embassy given this situation?

    2. Can I be BLOCKED from leaving Thailand?

    3. Should I raise this as a security issue (black market thing)?

    My options appear to be

    1) report to embassy as described above

    2) just report as lost passport

Any suggestions or follow up questions are appreciated
