  1. Just think what fun to reporgram all the numbers in your phone - I remember when they added the extra number in the past. But for wrong numbers have some fun. NONE of my three sims are registered as I have had them a long time OR just got the new one and no one asked for anything but the money. On my land line in another country apparently my number was once used by as hotel and I still get calls for a room - so - I am polite and ask if they want one with a girl or no girl and if mirrors on the ceiling are desired. If on my cell phone and they ask for someone I say OH the police picked him up last night try the police station he may still be there. Likewise I speak Thai and Bengali so I can respone in either language if the person speaks Thai answer in Bangali or English answer in thai - this is fun also. Remember phones can be fun too.

  2. Interesting how Thailand is getting less and less hospitable for long stay visitors (no I am not saying 3 years overstay is OK) but more and more long stay restrictions and hoops to jump through. Philippines is making it easy and just is introducing a 6 month long stay visa for tourists. Philippines also has several programs leading to permanent resident status so no visa runs, and in some cases NO yearly reporting to immigration. They seem to see the advantage of attracting retirement and long stay individuals. Also easy to buy condos in Philippines. Thailand on the other hand with the new comments about mandiatory medical insurance for visitors seems to NOT want people to come, stay and spend money.

  3. Thailand should take a lesson from singapore in this case - AS WAS said above BUT if ThaIand became more like Singapore few would come here. I lived and worked in Singapore for 6 months (got to go HOME to Thailand twice a month) and it was one of the most boring places I have ever been. To me it is like British dressed up in Chinese suits all standing in a proper que making a soft "Baaaa" sound like a sheep. Told what to think and when to think by the Prepetual Action Party - right I really do NOT like the place. No excuse to get in a fight over S$4 however.

  4. FALSE - this is false information planted to get people to use this thinking it is secure. There is no "Common" encryption that the governments cannot break and there are back doors to most of the common ones. Best would be using something like TRUECRYPT and doing a double encryption. Could be broken in time but it would really give those snoops a headache in trying it.

  5. Question - with all the known problems in Phuket why do not people go to nicer places of which there are many? Second the comment "After 17 years marriage to a thai and two thai children I still have no right to live here, im not looking for a thai passport, just the right to stay, i'm too young for a retirement visa" I understand this comment as I have lived in Thailand for over 10 years, speak the language well and have a retirement visa but need to renew re-entyr permit yearly. While I come to Thailand often - Jomtien - I live in a near by country where I DO have permanent resident status for life. Thailand will not change in the way it looks at foreignerns BUT there are places who will welcome you a bit more warmly. As for working, How many Thais speak Russian?? So how will the Thai Tour guide communicate and make any sense at all. It is a situation we as foreigners will not change AND either make the best of it OR find a more welcoming country of which there are. Good luck to all in Phuket

  6. While this does NOT work if you are out - a good protective device for burglers if you are in the house is a FIRE EXTINGUISHER - the type you can carry and either liquid like for electronic equipment or dry powder in the face is most discouraging. Also the laundry spray bottle with some "Nasty" surbstance like bleach or Amonia OR use your immagination for worse things works great - set the spray for a stream and NOT mist and aim for the face. Just a little tip as a friend used the fire extinguisher in the face trick and his GF poured a bucket of bleach oln the guy - needless to say he was on the way to the hospital rather quick.

  7. Maxnet / TTT never - repeat never worked more than a week or so in View Talay 5. I took it all back to them. I would leave for a few weeks come back for a weekend or a few days and it was DEAD! So by the time they sent someone to fix it I was ready to leave again. Worthless!!!!! They had to change the line from the street into View Talay 5 two times. G O O D L U C K
