  1. I normaly fly thai ,Melbourne bkk but having a look at the fares on Jet star there half the price of thai , they are non stop and ok no meals and a bit less in the way of comfort ( tv ,screens on the back of seats ) but for a 9 hour flight i dont care . has anyone else flown with jetstar ?

    cheers.

I,ve flown jetstar SYD - HKT (Phuket) qiute a few times now. there are no meals , unless u pay for them when booking, jetstar has no tv screens on back of seat, just a screen on ceiling & back of wall half way down plane, it is very limited just wat u can watch, if u prepay u can get a little mini dvd player with many different movies & tv shows etc.

but for 9 hrs , i dont bother with food & dvd , it keeps the price down,

  2. Hi,

Dont know about anywhere else, even here in Bangkok but when i was living in Pattaya I know that they did (and still do) charge 1,000 baht per time in order to reissue the TM card.

Dont know if it helps just a FYI.

i think sometimes it can be just up to the Thai Immigrations Officer discretion at the time, sometimes it can be no hassle getting a new one , other times u have to pay, & once i met someone who lost theirs , & they had to wait a long time to get new one after getting the 3rd degree asking why they didnt have it, & went nearly close to missing plane.

  3. Unless you go to a work for a company that can get you a work permit about the only option is a 60 day tourist visa that can be extended for 30 days. This visa can be obtained with a number of entries allowed normally 2 or 3 but have heard of greater. You can get it at a Thai consulate. That means with this visa you would enter for sixty days, extend for 30 and then make a border run and start over again with first 60 days. If consulate gives you a visa with a valid date long enough you could even stay for a year without getting a new visa. Just make border runs every ninty days.

Also if you can get a letter from a company/business in Thailand you could possibly get a ninty day non-b multiple entry visa good for one year at a consulate in Australia. Just make border runs every 90 days. You can get about 15 months out of one of these visas if you leave just before it expires.

I won't comment on "working as such".

You really should go the WorkPermit way.

Someone might rat you out to immigration Police, ex-girlfriend, ex-employee etc etc

    thanks for the replies,

ok , can i get a work visa if i just have a bar or bar/hotel . working as a manager or the person who holds the lease to the bar,?

i have met bars owners before & they do not have work visa's , they do not work or go behind the bar to serve , just there to take care of things, they just have a visa where they have to go on visa runs

  4. i've been looking through the visa section "history" & "seach engine" now even more confused what visa i need .

I am an 43 yr old Australian. Single , not married to a Thai.

i have been to Thailand many times , only on 30 day tourist visa's.

its only in early stages of planning but i may have the opportunity to be partners in a small bar/hotel in Chaing Mai or Hua Hin -

or a bar in Pattaya wants a manager to run his bar.

i wont be "working" as such behind the bar ,so i dont think i will need a work visa, (which is very hard to get anyway)

or in the bar/hotel - i still wont be "working behind Bar".

iam planning to be in Thailand for min. of 12 months up to 2yrs maybe longer - wait & see what happens.

there are a few different visa types, iam confused at this stage of what i need? a 30 day tourist visa will be too short as i will have to keep leaving & renewing (not viable)

    a non Immigant "B" visa. "O" visa? - 90 day visa?

i've only been looking this morning as i was only talking to mate in bangkok late last nite, he has a full work visa as he works for a multi national co. he does not know much about other visa's that i may need ,

i will keep "searching" but any current advise & info would be much appreciated .

will be heading there early next year if all works out.

    Thanks Gary

  5. I would just rent a bungalow if only 6 months. Find a nice bungalow with nice gardens and a pool. If you have any hassles you can move out and go elsewhere.

My advice to everyone who asks is to leave yourself an escape route by not locking yourself in anywhere.

This can be for many reasons, for example last year it rained and rained on Samui, all these people who had booked places came to Phuket to get some beach and sun time and lost their dosh to the places they booked on Samui, they said it was better than sitting indoors all day.

If you go to bars or indulge in women even more so. You could have bar girls turning up at bad moments or drunk looking for a bed for the night. I can't remember how many times I've had drunk Thai girls knocking on my bungalow door at 4am looking for some bloke :o This usually only happen just after you check in and the other bloke has recently left.

Why not buy a bike? A new wave 125cc cost me 45,000 baht 2 years ago. Best move I made as I just put it on the bus and take it wherever I go. The autos are ok but cost a little more for parts, servicing etc. You just take it to the bus station, screw off the mirrors so they don't get broken and the bus boys will carry it on the bus for you. If you have an arse of stone you can ride it to where you want to go and give your bags to one of the mini bus drivers to deliver.

My mate bought a honda dream 125cc. He rode it to the border of Malaysia to get a new visa, rode back up to Nakhon Sri, across through Krabi back to Phuket all in a couple of days. Talk about endurance!! :D . If you do ride a bike in Thailand you will know there is a God, or better believe there is..........LOL

Thanks logbags some good info & advise , iam looking into doing something similar like LanXang, moving to Thailand/Phuket/Patong for at least 12 months,

i will ask u more info & advise soon if thats ok ,

If this is a genuine road check to prevent unlicenced/unregistered taxis then I am all for it.

Iam staying in a small hotel in Patong next Friday 29th Aug - & have a complimentary pick up from airport, are u saying that i should not accept the free/complimentary pick up & get a taxi??

  7. I was in Patong 2 xmas's ago & 4/5 days after xmas i went there for dinner, & they had a special on "Roast Turkey" i ordered that, it was the worst meal i ever had in Thailand, the turkey was absolutely terrible it had no taste at all was "stringy" came out cold & felt like it was sitting in water for days, i guess it was left overs from last weeks xmas dinner, i took one bite & could not eat it, i told staff it was no good, still had to pay , i paid bill & left ,

sounds like the meals have not improved

  10. Why open an OLD thread

'cause just trying to find out if bars are open at all, when closed when open ??? if they have beer in coffee mugs?

been asking on this forum & other forums & nobody has same answer , some say open no change at all, some say all bars closed, some say some bars open , but no music , girls not allowed to dance & beer in cooffe mugs etc,

i arrive next wed 20th so like to know what i'am in for before i arrive , so if i need to organise other things if bars are closed ?

    Cheers Gary

  11. i all,

i'am arriving in phuket on the wed. 20th feb. next week , just 2 days before the proposed alcohol bans for that weekend & the following weekend, are these bans still going ahead ? a friend who lives up nth of Bangkok said business as usual in his town , (but he lives in a small place not frequented my tourists) he thinks same in Bangkok as well "bars should be open"

IF bans are still on will all bars/restaurants be closed during this period in Patong/Phuket ?

  12. "I'm not sure exactly which airport Air Asia departs from but 2 weeks ago I flew from Don Muang airport to Udon Thani on Thai Airways. I think the round trip ticket cost me 3,800 baht."

Hi , Thanks for the replies about Udon Thani - being a single bloke - i'd like the nitelife/party scene - along with sightseeing in days, apart from Bangkok/Phuket/Pattaya & Koh Samui - can anybody please advise of other good spots to visit for some fun for singles

just looked at Air Asia its about $70.00 return including taxes to Udon Thani in March 2008.

    Cheers Gary

  13. Hi Cheech & Chong ,

After reading yr question - i wasn't sure myself which airport ? iam flying to Phnom Penh , it does not state on itinery/booking sheet i printed out , so i looked on their website & found this on the "FAQ" section -

All AirAsia flights to/from Bangkok will arrive/depart at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. Our Thai AirAsia check-in counters are located on the 4th Floor, Row D . and E.

but still maybe double check ?

not sure what previous answer was supposed to mean " superboooooom" - great help that one.

also what is it like in Udan Thani - thinking about going up there - a former work mate is living up there , like to go up & visit if its worth seeing ?

    Cheers Gary
