I wrote should since it could depend upon upon the approving officers interpretation of the rule and etc.

Hi all,
My 19 year old son who is a New Zealander has been staying with me in Thailand for the last few months, I am here on a retirement visa, and would like him to stay longer, is it possible for him to get the dependent visa, and what supporting documents might be required. He turns 20 in January, would it expire then?
Many thanks,
Jim

I gave up after considerable time trying to find my post on this topic. Wanted to say,my Son got his fourth TV in Phnom Penh via one of your helpful members who recommended the travel agent next to the Irish bar at the bottom of 136 street. He did everything and more. Thanks for that members valued help.

I've not used the travel agent next to Paddy Rice Irish Pub for a visa, but I used him for a flight to Penang. His price was the best,as was his service. Did it all, while I had a beer at Paddy's.

Sorry if I'm in the wrong area here. Writing on behalf of my son. He's had 1 visa exempt and 3 tourist's visas over 8 months from August 2017. Anyone know his chances at the Phnom Phen embassy, or should he use an agent there? Thanks for up to date advice.

I it was your wife trying to apply for the non immigrant visa she would not qualify to apply for one unless you she is qualified for an extension based upon retirement herself.
A change to a non immigrant visa is not possible for a dependent of a person having an an extension based upon retirement or the holder of a OA visa.
I'm on a single non-O which I'll convert to extension based on retirement. Can my foreign Son get a long stay based on my status?

You are wrong. It is still possible to apply for a non immigrant visa at some immigration offices. Bangkok and some offices near there and Chiang Mai immigration can accept the application.
I went to Changwattana BKK. End November 2016 on a t.v. and they'd have converted it to non0 extension no problem just that it's done in two parts.

on jan 30, 2017 i was asked for a visa or ticket out of thailand when i checked into my manila-bangkok flight on thai airways. i was a bit surprised as i haven't been asked in hong kong and saigon in the past. i didn't have a visa. i happened to have a trip to hong booked already (for feb 11, 2017 dep) and had evidence of that ticket with me. now i'm in hong kong with a return to thailand on feb 28 but do not have a ticket out of thailand so i think i'm going to have to buy one just to be safe (or get a visa while i'm here in HK).
Look up onward travel.

Only you can be the judge of that.
You should read section 37 and 38 of the Immigration Act first.
Thai Immigration Act 2522en-immigration.pdf
Read thanks. Maybe I do not fully comprehend those sections but I hardly think immigration expect one to be basically stuck in one place for the duration of their permission to stay.

I have found the security people to be very helpful in Penang, but in Vientianne you can just pay an agent to do all the work for you, hand him your passport and papers and pay 1000thb or so and he will do all the work for you and come to your hotel next day to hand you your passport with new visa.
I found exactly the same at Penang, and supplied my embassy income paper work, picked up nonO single next day,no problems. Don't go to an agent, no need if all the tees crossed and Is dotted.

I think it is only for tourist visas. Savannakhet started asking for tickets out and financial proof for tourist visas but for other types they do not require them.
I went to Jim's to get my nonO,showed him my income letter from my Embassy and he said I wouldn't qualify. Went to the consulate and got it without any problems.

You would have to show some proof of where you are staying to get the extension. A short term rental agreement would be accepted.
After getting the extension you would have to do your 90 day reports to the office where you got the extension unless your formally changed your address at a different office. You can do your reports by mail or online.
So as I plan to travel extensively around Thailand, then that's not a problem I take it?

Thanks again UbonJoe,you're a gold watch. They were going to do it when I was on a tourist visa, but in two parts, and that was with me staying at a hotel. Good, as I intended traveling around Thailand, not always staying in one place forever,so doing the 90day reports by mail will allow this then? Pity the reports cannot be done online. Thanks again.

You can apply for it in Krabi. You have to apply for the extension at the designated office for where you are living.
Problem is,I'm not sure where I want to live at this stage. I just want to get the extension done.

You extension of stay (not a visa) based upon retirement application will be denied for not having the 800k baht in the bank for 3 months on the date you apply.
You will need to leave the country to get a new non-o visa and apply for a new extension.
Is krabi an ok io to apply for an extension of stay of my non O based on retirement?

You will need a letter from your embassy to apply for the extension of stay. I assumed you already had one from them.
If you need something notarized most law offices can do it.
I maybe wasn't clear. Nothing to do with visa,it's to satisfy my pension provider back in my country. I've looked online, and haven't managed to locate a lawyer and it seems Thailand doesn't have J.P.s.

You could show the same income letter you used to get the visa. They are valid for 6 months.
Will do Joe. On another note,as I can't find answer anywhere on tv,I'm in Hat Yai and need to have a document I will sign attested to for my pension declaration form. I've asked many people but to no avail. Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance.

Yes you need to show proof of income to apply for the extension. Where did you get the non-o visa?
I got the non o in Peñang.

I will be doing my first extension of stay based on retirement. Do I still need to show proof of income that was required to get the non O single entry recently?
-
Thanks Joe. I can do the reports by Mail, is that correct?
-
How long after getting a non O single entry must I apply for a retirement extension. I was going to apply in huaHin,but at this stage are unsure where I will settle as I intended traveling around. Is that allowed?

Not sure about HCMC I can only recall 2nd hand reports of somebody getting one there. PP is a no go.
Best is Savannakhet Laos that asks for no financial proof. Or Penang that wants to see 400k in the bank or proof of income.
Don't know if I'm in the correct place here, but on penang agents. I'm there, went first to Jim's place, had my Embassy approved proof of income. Jim said I wouldn't get a non immigrant visa but he'd try. Next day went to Banana gh,they wouldn't even look at my proof of income,Jim did,but both said I must have 800,000thb in a Thai bank. They knew I wanted it for retirement extension. I went myself to Thai consulate and today picked up my single entry. No problems and very helpful staff.

Not sure he has a visa. It sounds like he may have an extension of stay based upon retirement with multiple re-entry permit. The reporting he would be avoiding is 90 day reports.
Penang is the only place that has been confirmed as issuing a multiple entry non-o visa for retirement if you show the same financial proof as needed for an extension.
Sorry I did not find your reply sooner, but many thanks for it Joe. I had planned on Savanakhet but wasn't very sure. I do know that I'd NOT try here in Phanom phen Cambodia. I called the other day re tourist visas and they want an ownward ticket by air, which I've always known to be wrong. I've thought Penang,as it's visa free entry also. Do you suggest I use an agent,if so,who? Currently I just have my embassy approved income paperwork. Looking forward to your always valuable advice Joe. Thanks.

You can get a multi entry on a retirement visa, I got one, so not reporting to immigration but fly out/in as I pleases.
I have 4 bank accounts here in Thailand in 3 different banks and never had a work permit.
You seems well off, you can easily live here, IF you want.
I'm intending to go to savannkhet to get a non O,would much prefer a multi based on retirement. I have the correct paper work approved by my Embassy in Bangkok. Where did you get yours?

Any suggestions on the best/easiest place to get the non-o?
