Hi People.

I'm a rather reclusive ex academic who just loves the beautiful things in life and am I'm incapable of learning that 'no good deed goes unpunished'. At the moment I'm appalled at what my country (Australia) is doing to it's pensioners of all kinds and I want to get in touch with others who feel the same way. I'm told there are about 35000 of us expats here in Chiang Mai.

The heat is the main problem for me here, plus the difficulty of learning the language through practical means and of of showing my appreciation and respect for these extra-ordinary Thai people by assuming a worthwhile and helpful role in their community.

You won't find me in the bars much though I'm very partial to a very good cup of coffee served in comfortable surroundings. For those of you who would like to know the very best coffee I have tasted here was a few weeks ago at the little coffee house opposite the police station in Chom Tong.
