  1. At Pattaya immigration office, previously, we were allowed to apply for the extension of non-immigrant O-A visa with in 3 months before the current visa expiry date.

Is it still allowed? I am out of Thailand now and planning to go to there just to get an extension

At immigration offices in other cities,it appears that we have to wait until one month before the visa expiration.

    Thank you.

  2. The standard procedure would be to report the new address to the immigration office in the new province you move to promptly after your arrival and from that moment make your 90-day reports to the new office. It seems you did not do that, but they let you off without a fine for reporting your change of address. The lady with the very serious face deserves a box of chocolate next time you see her.

Thank you very much Maestro. I did not know that. I assumed, apparantly wrongly, by doing 90 day reports with new address would be enough. I did not have any problem in the past.

When you move to a new location, how do you report the change of address? Is there a special form to fill out? Thanks.

  4. I have just got my third extension(USA passport0 of my retirement visa at Changwattanna office in Bangkok. The officer was a middle aged lady with a very serious face. She looked at my TM-7 application and my passport.

She said, " Where did you do your extension last year?" I answered Pattaya. She said that I could not do the extension here in Bangkok and I had to go to the Pattaya office. I told her that the previous year( year 2008) I lived in Pattaya, so I applied for extension in March 2009 in Pattaya. Now, I have been living here in Bangkok since July 2009. She did not listen and said " You don't understand, you have to go to Pattaya". A few very scary moments. I told her again that I live here in BKK.

"Do you have any proof that you live in Bangkok?" Fortunately, I have a copy my condo lease with me. She made me to make copies of additional pages of the passport. After a few minutes, my passport was stamped with the extension. It appears that having a copy of rental contract or some other proof of residence may be needed sometimes.

  5. I went to Pattaya Immigration office today, about 80 days before the expiration date. I was first in line, all done by 9.00am. I did not have any problem with extending my retirement visa for one more year from the expiry date. But, they kept the passport and want me to go there to pick it up tomorrow.

It appears that it is a common practice in pattaya to give the passport back on the next day. When I renewed it last year in Bangkok, all done at the same sitting, on the same day!

  6. I came to Thailand on retirement visa (non O-A) on 2 May 2007, visa valid until 1 May 2008. In April 2008, I did my first retirement extension, without any problems, about 30 days before expiration. That retirement extension is going to expire on 1 May 2009. I am hearing that I do not have to wait until 30 days before it expires; in fact I can do it within 90 days before it expires.

So, can I go to the Pattaya Immigration office with all my paper work now to extend my visa until 2 May 2010? Thank you!

  7. There is no need for a stamp from MFA. You go to the Consulate section of the Embassy (across the street from embassy building) and fill out the paper, pay your fee and sign it in front of consular officer. You take that along with passport/arrival card (and copies) and 4x6cm current photo and fill out TM.7 form (you can used download from pinned section at top of forum) and pay fee of 1,900 baht. There may be a need for current residence so if you have lease bring that and copy or other such proof. You should also have a local bank account with passbook and make copy and have bank issue a letter of current balance (1-200 baht fee) as that is usually requested although no set amount required if using the 65k pension method. Although letter from embassy is usually accepted alone you should have some type of supporting paperwork if it is requested.

Thank you very much for your detailed answer to my question.

  8. I am a USA Passport holder,61 years old and retired

in Thailand on a one year Non Immigrant O-A retirement visa.

Now, I have to apply for my first 1-year retirement extension.

    My question is:

If I get a sworn income statement from US embassy and get that statement stamped

by Thailand Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will it be enough as for the financial requirement

as concerned for extension of my visa? If not, what else I have to do? Please help!
