  1. I have a WD 2TB Essential external drive which unfortunately has crashed. My computer recognises a device but not what the device is.

I wonder if there is anywhere in Pattaya which could recover the data and repair the drive .

  2. Sorry if this is not in the correct section but I cannot find anywhere more relevant.I wonder if any other members have any had delays in the supporting documents for their passport application being returned to them.I applied for my new passport 4 weeks ago and I received it yesterday but no sign of the documents being returned from Hong Kong.Part of the DHL courier fee is for this purpose as stated in the renewal of U.K passports in Thailand.I would be grateful if anyone can give any information on this matter

  3. This is a problem on the BBC website. If you look on iPlayer help at the bottom of the page and then at programme issues you will read that the BBC are aware of the problem and are working on it.They say that in the meantime iplayer desktop downloads are ok and can be used.I find that these downloads are very slow and that there is a difficulty with sideloading decause of DRM.I hope the problem will be resolved soon

  4. Has anyone come across a reasonably high quality video capture device in Pattaya.I have recently purchased a USB device which includes a tuner and the results are not very good. The recordings are full of digital type artifacts.I have quite a few VHS tapes and I would like to back them up to DVD while I still have a usable VCR.I know that the easy solution would be to purchase a DVD recorder but that would be quite expense so I am trying to do it on my computer. Anyway would be grateful if anyone had experience of a better device and where to purchase it.

    Thanks in advance

  5. I am able to download BBC programmes using iplayer desktop and later to watch them on my computer using a VPN.I would like to be able to watch them on my normal T.V.

I wonder whether anyone has experience of this.My first thought was to convert either the HDMI or VGA output of my graphics card to AV and then use a modulator to send the signal to the T.V's in the house. After a search of Tukcom Pattaya the only device I could find was a VGA to video converter and I would also need a break out box for the VGA connector to avoid disconnecting my computer monitor every time. This seemed a bit messy so I considered further methods of handling the problem. The BBC website says a portable media player can be used to play the iplayer programmes and lists the devces that are compatable.Possibly these media players are unavailable locally in Thailand.I discovered a computer programme on the internet which will remove the DRAM protection on the iplayer files and convert them to other formats.

I wonder has anybody been successfull in doing this and can they recomend a suitable portable media player.

I would be grateful for any suggestions

  6. Has anybody know of a company that does silver plating in Thailand prefferably in the Pattaya area?

If so have they have ever had any plating done.I would be glad to hear about it as I have pieces that need replating.

  7. There is a physiotherapy clinic in Fascino in North Road called Happy Body Clinic. The physiotherapist trained in Australia and speaks good english .I went there for a shoulder problem a year or so ago and was quite happy with my treatment. The charges then were 500 baht a session.

  8. I lost my Bangkok Bank card in a bank of Ayyudhia machine outside the Lotus Express store in Pattaya. The Bangkok Bank machine nearby was down which is why I used the other machine.I went to the nearest branch of The Bank Of Ayyudhia and I was told the card had to be destroyed and the Bangkok Bank confirmed that so it was a case of having a new card issued and paying the charges.Luckily the procedure can be done immediately by the issuing branch

  9. I am trying to help a friend to make an internet transfer from his HSBC account in England to his Bangkok bank account here in Thailand.I have set up internet banking for him with HSBC and when I try to enter his Bangkok Bank account number it is rejected because it has insufficient digits. The appropriate field on the HSBC internet bankingrequires an IBAN number(International Bank Account number) which is 12 digits and the Bangkok Bank account number is 10 digits.I have asked Bngkok Bank about this and they say that they do not have IBANs here in Thailand. HSBC say all banks in the world have them so I am not sure where to go from here.I have an account with HSBC Int in Jersey and also an account with Bangkok Bank and I am able to transfer funds without any trouble.

I wonder if anybody else has had this problem and managed to solve it.I would be most grateful for any suggestions. The alternative is a phone transfer but it is 30 pounds per transfer whic is twice the cost of the internet transfer.

  10. Has anyone received a bill from city hall for sewerage charges based on your water bill?.

I pay the bills for 2 of my neighbours and yesterday both received bills going back to last year.

I expect to be receiving my bill shortly. Our houses are in the Nong Yai area and we all have septic tanks.

There is no main drainage available so I cannot see how city hall can charge for a service that is not provided.

I seem to remember discussions in the press about how to pay for the new water treatment plant but that was some time ago.

If people refuse to pay what can city hall do to get payment. They cannot take everyone to court.

I would be interested to hear other people's experience.

  11. I am just recovering from Dengue Haemmorage Fever and I live in Pattaya.I developed a high fever on June 8th and thought that it was flu.I took paracetemol and plenty of fluids but I was no better after 2days so I went to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.By that stage I had developed a slight rash and my doctor recognised the symptoms immediately. He said he had 4 patients with dengue and that there was a lot of it about.I had a blood test and dengue was 80% confirmed after 45 minutes. The full confirmation and type took more than 24 hours.

I was admitted to the hospital and spent 5 days there on an IV.I had daily blood tests and my platelets kept dropping until day 5 when they started to rise again so I could be allowed home. After a week my blood was back to normal but I am still lacking in energy. The care in BPH was excellent and I was extremely lucky to have been seen by such an experienced physician
