  1. i'm divorced now & i need to be here to provide for my minor child ........i'm having some difficulty with that from the immigration office.....regarding the situation as to when the ex wife is not in the country .....which was the reason i applied for the dependency visa in the 1st place ... i have a dependency visa which i have renewed 3 x's ..... for the same reason the ex wife was not in the country ..... but now the i o says they want consent from the ex ....annually which they never asked for during the previous extensions..........& i'm saying how do i do that if she's not here .....& why do i need to... if i'm applying for a visa that facilitates a foreigner staying in Thailand to care for his child when the other parent is absent or negligent...... so if the situation arises & they want to talk to my child i want to know what the law is ......... because i'm providing all the documents ....my ex & i are not fighting or in a custody battle we just want to know what we have to do to make sure our child is cared for ......... so i want to know if it gets to where they want to talk to my child ....which i don't have a problem with ...... what are my rights ....& or better yet what are the child's rights ....does an adult in the role of guardian need to be present ? my child has been present for the renewal process . previously and asked questions which were answered honestly .... there are some that would like payouts to process things ..... so if alone with a i o of this nature and there is no witness to the conversation .... we can be pushed into a situation of payola versus procedures .... there fore my question today

Sounds like you need a Lawyer, not TV.

  2. I see reading from the previous posts that the Depth Perception Test is not mentioned as part of the test, only color and reaction are listed as being required. Does anyone have any further confirmation that the Depth Perception Test is no longer required.

I can confirm the depth perception test is not required,

Thank you for your prompt reply loppylugs, I have 20/20 vision, with the aid of glasses, peripheral vision is fine, but lining up those pesky D.P.T. sticks is not always easy, and I am not sure how relevant, I understand the logic behind it, but I have no problems judging the closing gap of an oncoming car when trying to overtake.

More importantly, I would think, would be to introduce a standard eye test, the sort you have when testing for spectacles, the color blindness test seems a bit irrelevant to me, as the only reason as far as I can think is reading the color of traffic lights signals.

  3. Lots of good advice here on what to look for and expect of Indian / Thai tailors in Pattaya. For those people whose size dictates, they have no choice but to take the route of the made to measure option, Thailand is one of the best countries for this type of expertise.

But, if you are able to fit into "Stock Sizes" in my opinion, the brand name, computer designed, cut and stitched clothes are far superior.

  4. If you have 2 passports showing different nationality, would it not be difficult using one for entry and the other one for exit, interested to know how this works.

I have British and Australian passports. You cannot use one passport to enter and a different one to exit. But when you arrive in the next country by air you can then present a different passport.

Thanks for that Asiantravel. I also have two passports, Australian and British. Seems that this could be an advantage in the case of the Vietnam Visa for example so as to avail yourself of the Visa Waiver. So, if you used your UK passport to exit Thailand, as presumably this would contain your entry stamp, and maybe a Thai visa, and re-entry permit, you would then want to use it to re enter Thailand, but it would not show an entry or exit stamp to any other county, so if an eagle eyed Thai immigration officer spotted this, would he not ask the question, where have you been ?

  5. And the Swiss tongue.png ?

VOA is required at a cost (45 USD?, photo required) bah.gif

Laos lets me in on visa excempt free of cost.

A country that wants to attract tourism has to open up.

Just today I saw a report in an Aussie media stating like "Vietnam is the new Thailand",

    No its not (yet).

I'm lucky enough to possess both Swiss and Aussie citizenship. If I'm flying in to Vietnam, I can use my Aussie passport while my Swiss passport can be used to avail myself of the free entry into Laos, something I've taken advantage of perhaps 20 times using my Swiss passport due to the visa waiver, which began in 2011 I believe.

Vietnam will open up more and more, but it has a lot of communist officials who still think the old way on a number of issues, thus hindering progress. For example, the Vietnamese who drive on the right (unlike Thailand) believe that RHD vehicles (from countries such as Thailand and Malaysia) are dangerous and refuse to allow them to use their highways even for a short tourism or business trip. So Thais can't drive to Vietnam in their own cars. On the other hand, Thailand has no problem with LHD vehicles and allows them in, in order to facilitate tourism.

And yes, Vietnam is in some ways like the new Thailand or at least has the potential to become the new Thailand. Having said that, I'm not sure if that's a good thing though. Thailand has it's faults and Vietnam should develop it's own version of tourism. The country does however have nearly everything that Thailand has: beaches, mountains, jungles, eco-tourism and agro-tourism, bustling cities, night markets, floating markets (in the Mekong delta vs. the Khlongs of Thailand), colorful hill tribe minorities etc.

Infrastructure, though still poor is rapidly improving with the recent opening of new expressways (though relatively short) near Ho Chi Minh City and between Hanoi and the Chinese border town of Lao Cai. A planned high speed rail link is also about to come to fruition, while I'd much rather trust the current Vietnamese rail system (though slow) to the unreliable Thai one, which derails every other week.

  6. A few things I would wish to draw to the attention of the previous posters, the 49% foreign quota is always more expensive either to buy off plan or to resale, if a foreigner was to somehow buy in the "Very Grey Area" of the 51% Thai ownership. it would be near impossible to resell it.

Re the 800K retirement account, I believe I am correct in saying that this has only to sit in a instant access account for 90 days prior to renewing the visa, or 60 days if applying for the first time.

As for the interest comment, I have funds sat in a Lloyds UK current account that returns less than 1% net.

  7. Just extended the range of my original modem by installing a "Power Line" it consists of 2 units, a receiver and a transmitter, plugged into the electrical sockets, one close to the modem, the other, in my case in another bedroom, I now have a very strong signal throughout my entire condo. Bought from J C ?? it's between the elevators on the 3rd floor of Tukcom, they "paired" the 2 units for me, Baht 2200 (fixed price, no discount)

  8. Are you buying a house that is already included in an existing company, if so check the company books as a first step, buying from a Thai, and then setting up your own company is "Grey Area" at best, I am sure if you research TV threads you will get a lot of info.

  9. I am amazed that people here buy off plan, I know it has been said many times before in this forum, it is a huge risk without an escrow account guarantee. Thai owned SET listed companies would seem to be much safer, if anyone wanted to buy a new build unit.

  10. Your problem is prostate related I assume, I went through the Poscar medication program, but it did nothing for my prostate, it did however, sap my libido, the only positive side effect was it made my hair grow! So about 4 years ago I bit the bullet, and went to the source of the problem by undergoing a TURP operation. This was carried out by Doctor Jesada in Bangkok Pattaya hospital, I can recommend him without hesitation, I can now sleep well without having to wake up every few hours to go to the toilet.

Thanks for your reply Wrong Turn, I have used Minoxidil for maintaining my hair growth for many years, it's not successful in every case, but works well for me without the "Side effects of Proscar"
