I'm based in Thailand. Is it better to change Thai Baht into Dong in Bangkok or in Vietnam, Hanoi.
Or is the exchange rate better to take US$ or Euros with me?
-
I do my Bank statements in the building of the Bangkok immigration. They charge a fee of 100 THB. It takes 15 min.
Then I go up to the immigration.

Thanks. I might try it and compare it with Sygic.
I like most- it shows only the street you drive, with big large text.

Anyone using the app 'Copilot' for smart phones in Thailand?
I'm using it temporally in Germany and must say it is the best GPS app I ever used.
In Thailand I'm using Sygic.

I need to renew my retirement visa on 16th December.
Have 3 questions (couldn't find in the forum history):
1. Is there any time frame before and after the final date.
2. Will it count from the issuing date excactly 1 year? Even if I do it bevore or after the final date?
3. Can my bank branch at immigration building issue me the necessary account statement for my 800K? Or do I have to get it only at my local bank?
Thanks -
That's a good one.If your cousin does not have a smart phone how will he recieve the message ?
Yes, a good one.
He receives my messages and pictures. So he must have a smart phone. I will check that. He is 70.
Can not convince him to use LINE ;-)
-
I guess you mean 'WhatsApp'. Text messages and images use IP and therefor data. That can be 3G/ 4G or wifi. You cannot do voice or video calls as VOIP using WhatsApp. Recommended applications for that are LINE, Tango and Viber.
Yes, off course. My wrong spelling.
Will AIS charge me to send a 2MB picture if using 3G?

I installed WhatsUp on my iPhone at the request of my cousin in Germany who got no smart phone. He can not use Skype, Line or all the free apps who work over internet for int. calls.
I had some problems to activate WhatsUp. AIS mentioned some roaming settings. But now I can exchange pictures and text messages.
Question:
Is this service free - or will AIS charge me something?
Can I do voice and video calls with WhatsUp?
-
I appologize if this is already answered.
Is there any Thai TV station broadcasting Thai news in English?
Thanks

If I receive a Skype call from Europe - do I get charged roaming fees by AIS in Thailand?
Anyone know?

I did reset Safari. It made it faster, however the problem became worse. Strange thai websides open automatically and require me to confirm something.
I am using in the meantime Firefox without any problems.
-
each time I go with the mouse over a website or click a link, Safari opens a spam website which may open other websites automatically.
It is very annoying. I deleted all cookies, deactivate all plugins and extensions but the problems persist.
Anyone experienced the same and got a solution?
Here a screen shot of an unwanted thai website which opens most of the time.

I apologize if my question is in the wrong forum:
I check very often Google maps to get the coordinates for my navigator for a certain place. Lately most of the text is in Thai. Google assumes your location is Thailand, so you speak Thai. Where are the settings to change it permanently to English?
I learned by adding
/?hl=en
at the end of the link - display is partly in English. But the names of BTS is still in Thai. Anybody have the same problem, or know a solution?
Btw: I am using the classic Google Map version.

Thanks everyone. That's the info I need to make my decision. Unfortunately, my Thai friends don't know anything about it. And the bank lady gave me wrong information: "The rate will not change during the 6 month."
TallGuyJohninBKK: I not use it for immigration.

Asking whether something is safe is not a binary question yes/no. It is a calibration of risk when it comes to financial investments and those who want higher returns need to understand that higher returns = higher risk. So the correct answer is riskier.
Thank you. What I meant with my question was - did anybody had some bad experience with Thai Mutual funds?
And the 2nd question: If they say 2.95% in 6 month, will it stay by 2.95% or can it drop?
-
I have accounts with Bangkok Bank and Krungsri.
My fixed deposits have matured, and I don't want to renew with low interest rates. They offered me tax free Mutual fund.
Krungsri Bank calls it '6M90 Fund' for 6 month, 2.95%
Bangkok Bank calls it 'B-Fixterm 15/14', 6 month, 2.85%
The risk of Mutual Funds is level-4. What is your opinion? How safe is it to invest in mutual funds in Thailand?

When I'm overseas and my Nuovo is not used for several weeks. It just doesn't start.
I found a silly solution - but it works: I lay the bike for a few minutes on both sides. After that it always starts. Then I drive a few km to get the battery recharged and I guess it will unclogging the fuel pipes.

Just want to let you know what happend to me on Tuesday night:
On Tuesday night I drove back from Goethe Institut Sathon, with my scooter. I had to use a few detours and reached a road block next to Lumpini park. Everone past through a narrow gate block. They intended to stop me, but I went quickly through with other motorbikes. Suddenly a group of 5 -6 motorcycles from the protesters followed me and told me to stop immediately. When I looked at them and asked why, they disappeared. This happend two times that evening.
Now I realised, it must be my red Yamaha jacket which irritated them ;-) And by night they did not see that I'm a farang -
…... it had a silly alarm that went off...
That is the one I'm looking for
-
xena alarm disc with motion sensor should be fine.
Doesn't it block the wheels?
I would prefer to put a small device under seat storage.
-
Anybody know a good motion detector to put on the bike which makes a sound if someone moves the bike?
I think in Bkk, owners of a small bikes always experience that someone moves your bike (to make space for a car), even when you are in 7-11 for 5 minutes.
I hate that. Big bike owners don't face that problem.
