  1. One of the nicest places we ate at was the beach restaurant at Pak Nam Prah, south of Hua Hin but easy to find by following the signs from Phetkasem Road. Really good, no mosquitoes (due I guess to closeness to sea), lovely breezes inthe evening. Food can be Thai or farrang and prices are very reasonable...The only problem is that I dont have a name for the place and it does need a car to get there obviously. I will visist it again when I am back next month and make sure I get the business card/address.... :)

  2. I think that so many of you are missing the point here. It does not matter what color the shirt, who had want weapons, which colour supports what politician. Its all about the fact that mob rule now appears to hold sway in Thailand. The security forces, one uses the terms cautiously, do nothing presumably because the powers that be in government, the army or the police also support certain factions. And at the day, I am sorry to say it is all about money, that misguided goal that drives virtually all Thai's, the need to get money at any cost.

For my families part, and I mean my Thai wife and son we are looking closely to see if Thailand is a good place to live when I retire. In the current troubled period Thailand is going through I think it is not as there appears to be little in the way of security in this country ..more like "Land of Snarls" than the "Land of Smiles" .

  3. Live and let live for christs sake.....I dont ask whyt village people inThailand wear baggy shortsd, washed out tee shirts and flip flops ?? and the reason I dont ask is its their affair, they are no worse people for that...dont be so <deleted> elitist.... :o

  4. how the main culprits were from Laos, to self evident agreement from the other chattering Thais there.

That's racial stereotyping rather than xenophobia, IMO. Racial stereotyping is very common on ThaiVisa too.

So why not leave then..racial stereotyping bah..Thais have the monopoly on that I think

  5. Many thanks to all of you who have given me advice and wished me luck. It really is much appreciated, and has been very useful and, to a degree, comforting.

To follow up on a few points raised.

I don't know if I did have pseudomembranous colitis. It was a self diagnosis I made when reading the side effects of the anti biotic I was given by the hospital that I was admitted to when I had my accident. When I finally went to see a doctor, he didn't think that I had it, and prescribed me some new antibiotics. They didn't work so he gave me another lot - which also haven't worked. Hence my visit to Phyathai hospital.

I looked at several sites on the symptoms of colon cancer, and only the Mayo clinic mention diarrhoea as a symptom. Constipation is a far more common symptom, but it seems it would depend on where the tumour(s) are located. Here's a snip from the Mayo site:

Signs and symptoms of colon cancer include:

    • A change in your bowel habits, including diarrhoea or constipation or a change in the consistency of your stool for more than a couple of weeks
    • Rectal bleeding or blood in your stool
    • Persistent abdominal discomfort, such as cramps, gas or pain
    • Abdominal pain with a bowel movement
    • A feeling that your bowel doesn't empty completely
    • Weakness or fatigue
    • Unexplained weight loss

I score on points 1, 3, 4, and 6. I have lost 1 kilo since 30th March, so I may score on point 7. There is no bleeding that I can detect.

I admit to beinga bit mystified as all the threads in the Pattaya forum reported that Phyathai is a good hospital., I'm now being told to go elsewhere and find a good doctor. The only reason I went to Phyathai was on the recommendations from the folk on Thai Visa. I found the doctor there knowledgeable and competent. He is one if the first I have consulted (outside of Bumrungrad) to make a note of all my current medications and conditions - most of them couldn't care a less.(Including the hospital I was admitted to last month) He spoke good English, and explained that my symptoms did indicate cancer of the colon, but he couldn't be sure until I had the colonoscopy.

I am not panicking at this juncture. I will have the colonoscopy at Phyathai and see what transpires. As some posters have said, it would seem to be good idea to have one anyway. Then depending on the results, and my gut feeling (no pun intended :D ), I will decide whether to continue there or to go to Bumrungrad.

Maybe I can have my colon repaired and my snoring problem dealt with all at the same time, at a reduced rate :o

Ah I get it now Mobi.....thats why i get a kick up thebutt by the wife when i snore...maybe i can get my colon fixed and stop snoring too .....good luck mate whatever

  6. It all depends on the tires. OEM tires should get at least 60,000 kilometers with a reasonable driving style. After that you can get soft compound that wears faster but are safer or you can get hard compound that wears much longer but have very poor traction and are dangerous on wet roads. Everything is a compromise.

Please be aware that whilst it is good to speak in terms of wear on the tread you must also look closely at structure. By this I refer to the fact that its not only the wear and tear from distance or the damage to the tyre walls from bresting the kerbs but also the effect the weather has on the rubber itself. Check the I suppose the word is. If so they can explode during cornering or even high speed driving with catastrophic consequences. :o

  7. Exactly coffee boy, if people support these various policies, actions, and events then they should be mature enough to see the impact they have on the people they effect. To scurry away and make excuses of the gruesomeness of it seems rather ignorant to me. I guess most people don't liked to be disturbed while sat on there nice soft sofa in their big house in suburbia somewhere.

"Coffee Boy" :o:D ....are you a patronising person "madjbs" ...just to add my 2 pennyworth, I feel that some censoring is required......blood and gore onthe screen are not really the point are they. Knowing someone died should be enough plus I immagine the idea behind the censoring is so younger family memebers do not get distressed.

  8. For the sake of clarity: The old Thermae closed down because I believe the land/building was sold to developers and the new one opened just one or two blocks North as the old one closed. Entry to the new or existing Thermae is from Sukhumvit, down a long flight of steps, or via the rear exit which involves going past the toilets. I cannot remember the year the Thermae transitioned but it was certainly after construction had started on the sky train so I guess that would mean post 1997.

Was the access not from Sukhumvit as the basement to the Ruamchit Hotel or a I thinking of another worthy etablishment!!!

Surely you can't be serious in posting this poll. Who's gonna divulge that kind of info on a web forum? I admit people could answer the poll anonymously.

    Nice try though.

Your top layer isn't very high though. I mean that's about the price of a semi-detached house in the south of England. I think you could have gone to, say, 140 million Baht.

Well I htink our house in London suburb, inside M25, on Underground line is 4 bed semi and worh currently 25 million baht based on GBP 1.00 = Baht 86

  10. Just bought a new Honda City - total cost 521k including 20k worth of extras, so you could say the cost of the car without extras was only 501k.

After looking around at a number of second hand models i just couldnt see the logic in considering second hand. 2 year old cars were between 460 and 480k thats without the service package etc.

What is that all about or am i missing something!

No you are missing nothing misterman, you did the wise thing to buy new. My Thai wife and I bought an Audi A4 that was 3 years old and we had it checked out by the Audi dealer before paying for it. It turned out to be the biggest load of cr_p you could have ever bought. We replaced virtually everything except the engine and gearbox. Everytime we went out we planned to drive via the dealer in case it broke down again. After 8 months of driving hel_l we sold back to the original secondhand dealer , so pleased to be rid of it.

The problem was that whoever had owned it before obhviously could not afford to pay the service charges so p[ossibly a ":back street buddy" did the work for him...!!!! well sort of. So unless you are very well up on cars as far as knowing what to look for "DONT BUY A SECONDHAND CAR IN THAILAND". I also believe that Thai's sell cars when they become a liability so if they dont want it why would you ?

  11. Well Jock I guess thats true of all managers, no results ..no job. Just watch what will happen to Sam Allardyce at Newcastle if he does not start winning soon and he is a mountain of a man in managerial terms. :o

  12. When I tried an Indian version of Viagra bought in BKK I got a 50% response and a headache for a day, not from the exertion the night before either I might add :o
