  1. I bought a brand new Vios before, and really liked it. It had tranny problems though, which I had to have fixed.

Last week I was at the Ford dealer where I bought my truck and they have the Fiesta promo for 494,000 baht. It is not the top model, but has plenty of features, AT and a 1.5 liter engine. I think far superior than settling for an Eco car. It is my understanding, the promo has sold so well that there is a waiting list.

  2. Thanks,

Yes dealer batteries, they don't last so long. I have have problems with Toyota and Mitsu on that.

I have not decided one way or another yet on the MU-X.

I know the Isuzu's are popular with the Thais.

It looks like the list prices have changed recently or are inconsistent. Available on the Internet but not necessarily current is a base price 1,289,000 for the Mu-x 4x2 3.0 DVD Navi AT

I have a color printed price list from the dealer showing the same model at 1,309,000.

There is also word of a promo sale coming up August 29...I am seeking the best deal.

  3. North of the Airport and south of Naresuan Camp, the developments have right-of-ways put in, at least some places, so people can get to the beach.

The beach has high seawalls in this part, as a few years ago with the masssive storms at sea the coastline was eroded, and some seawalls had to be rebuilt or were outright destroyed.

  4. It is my understanding trucks are the best deal in Thailand.

I went looking for a top model truck and at one of the dealerships; and ended up going in a different direction, we test drove the MU-X.

Everyone of us liked the MU-X 3.0 4X2 DVD Navi AT. The dealer list on the basic truck was 1,309,000, but I thought I had seen it advertised or mentioned here on TV for 1,289,000.

What should I try for, or be able to get them down to, for a deal, if I pay cash?

I know I we can negotiate the add-ons and to some extent price.

Is there a certain dealership I should approach? For example, is there likely a better deal at one of the bigger companies like UNT in Bangkok or are prices apt to be lower in certain provinces?

Cheers in advance for anyone sharing their perspective!

  5. What is my correct Visa strategy to extend a 30 day Visa Exempt status?

USA Citizen over age 50, entered Kingdom 10 days ago on 30 day exemption.

Married to Thai and have Thai children who are with me now.

Have 800K in bank, shows on bankbook, since April, 2013.

I need to stay another 15 days or so after exemption expires. I would prefer to handle this locally in Bangkok rather than leave country.

Also is there a long term strategy I should pursue?

I come about 3 times a year; first a month and half during summer in the West, and for about two - weeks at a time for visits two and three at other times of the year.

    Cheers All.

    Thanks

  6. Does Maxnet offer their 4mb packages in the Hua Hin area? Need a solid connection for work. Generally, what's the best package available?

Would be in the market for a 1 bedroom condo/apt with sea view for under 15,000. Anything in that range? Links?

    Hi,

Use to live in the Hin Nam but ended up moving to VIP after about 3 months. I liked the privacy of VIP. After renting two different units I ended up buying a place there. It is directly on the beach. Has a pool etc. I don't have Hi-speed internet but that is no problem as it is available just have to pay to have it hooked up. It is pay for level of service-- better connection speed costs more.

I have Internet(ADSL) in my house already though 2 beds 1 bath large lot about 1.5 km away(none on beach but very private, safe area, both places avail for rent-- can show

my place its advertised on Thai Visa, http://classifieds.thaivisa.com/?act=show_...3&aid=14040

  7. I normally preferred to buy bulk unless it was short term. It's been a while but I always got the large white jugs and usually got them from the local condo or village level minimart. At the time, early on one of minimart's was doing local construction site delivery, sort of as a lunch wagon.

  8. Not in Thailand right now but,

I am a Mizzou fan, so college football gets it done for me.

I hate having to keep up going over the Internet though. A live broadcast online for free would be great.

One of my past mentor's was from Nebraska so finally after 30 years we took it to them in their own house last weekend.

Oh I might add my current boss (one of them) while Asian is an Alabama Alum and a promoter of American football.

  9. There are plans for a Taling Chan Sky Train extension, the 7-11's have already upsized and relocated to reflect where the new stops will be. This will not happen fast enough though.

I am familar with Vatel I find it respectable, it is hands on in the field, however the course work is- essentially everyone is given things like extra chances to make sure they pass.

Hey! thanks everyone for your quick replies! Yeah I am going to do! I have been at work all day today just thinking of the prospects of studying somewhere abroad, and on top of that somewhere in Asia. As this whole crisis' in the West is heading towards armaggedon, its only right in my eyes to move towards the next big thing!

To answer some of your replies and ask some more questions here goes.

Yes i am planning on going into the Hospitality management course (Vatel), I am an educated chef already, but can see myself dieing from that within the next 10 years! (hours, alcohol, no time off, no life).

However I have searched a bit on the internet, and cannot really find any other school which offers a degree in Hospitality management like Silpakorn. So i think i might just stick to my main plan.

9 Kms sounds quite drastic from MBK. Is there any Skytrain, or Metro which goes out to Taling Chan? or would a smart idea be getting a motorbike or car (i have a license to both). I am not the real bus man as you could call it!

Last question is, does anyone know any webpages where i could find rental apartments. A place which is good and reliable?

  10. I know someone that has a baby with his TGF, who has now flown the coop and left him with the child. He wants to go back to his home country, and take the baby with him. If he has a passport for the child from his country, can he just make a reservation and leave? Or will he need some type of permission from the absent mother to be able to take the child out of the country?

Can the child leave using the foreign passport, since I assume the mother would have to be around to get a Thai passport?

This happened to me, with my at the time 1- 1/2 year old, with just us two travelling and I needed the permission slip from the Thai mother certified by the Amphur, in order to get my child out of the country.

Had a newly issued foreign passport travelled on for the first time , Thai Birth Cert, record of Birth abroad, translations, tried to thin of everything, paperwork was reviewed by the Thai immigration authorities, but I made it through. No problems on the other end.

I am pretty sure you will need the permission slip the first time.
