  1. Hello

I am currently a student and at the moment I am struggling with some math. I am stuck on 5 questions (functions). The level of the math are senior highschool/frist year uni. If you are intrested please send PM so we can arange the details.

If you are good in maths and we get along, there might be possibilities for a more long term tutoring about 3 weeks.

  2. All and any war veterans are worthy of being honoured

Are you sure? How about all japanese soldiers who tautured the prisoners in Thailand? Honoured?

How about the soldiers who managed S-21 i Cambodia should they also be honoured?

I did my military service at K3, Sweden. Did UN service for one year, there is no honour in that even.

  3. Two or three years ago, the thai and swedish Big brother were filmed together. It didn´t that long before the swedish contestants proved there are no les majestes in Sweden by screaming not so nice words...Let´s hope they keep it clean this time and show respect to Thailand and their people.

  4. Of course they should have computers. How else can they play Counter strike and chat on hi5? :o

The way I see it: there are two types of monks. A. The ones who really commit themselfs to Buddhism. B. The ones who only stay there 3 months and don´t care the least about it. They only do it for the pride of their family. I compare it to the kids back in Farangland whose parents make them play the piano or tennis :D .

  5. A funny scenario would be; Carlbkk ("agent X1" :o )sitting in the holy seat sipping coffee so GOM have to sit elsewhere. Suddenly another guy (thaivisa agent X2 :D ) comes into the café, walks straight to Carlbkk and says in a loud voice: "hey, you have to move because I always sits here. No one else can sit on my chair". Without a word Carlbkk moves...A few minutes later agent "X3" enters the café...

  6. Hold on,

your wedding was about 120K and then it included hotel for the guests? Don´t get me wrong but I don´t want to get overcharged. The wedding is to be in a air force base, so no fancy stuff at all.

And to the rest of you all: yes, another "sin sod thread". Before I was laughing at them to but it now I am at the wrong side of the stick:(. Help, please.

    Who made your wedding arrangements?

  7. Hi

I don´t want to make a new thread., but I am in abit of a dilemma( read desperate need of help). I am together with a girl from a normal family; , mother high schoool teacher, dad a F16 flight instructor in Takli. We have been together for three years, she have made "a sidestep" at least one time. We want to get married. Last week her mom called and said that no sin sod were needed, but I had to come up with 300.000baht for the reception. The the style of the wedding will be in their garden with thaifood and rented tables ect. The wedding will last one day and have 100 guests. I am disturbed by several things:

    1. 300.000 baht is more than +2000 baht/person after other expenses have been paid. You wouldn´t even have to have this amount in dear old Europe for a homemade garden wedding.

    2. 100 guests! This seems to be a big show of mainly for her mom. Is a thai wedding just a show off for the parent to gain respect or is it a ceremony for me and my bride to be?

    3. I only know a few people in Thailand, but why should the mom do all the invitations? There will mainly be guests that I (and my girlfriend) don´t know and not care about, and they certainly don´t care about me . It even would be more familiar if I would post a big sticky on thaivisa " everyone invited".

Any comment on my post will be most welcome since I need to know if my points are correct or not.

  8. Juliet, it is all about supply and demand. There are many many thai girls in thailand to marry. Some farang even pay sin sod for girl who have been in the "trade" or already have kids. But when push comes to shove they all deny it. "Oh no, I meet Noi in a lamp shop in Nakhula were she was working... :o

You on the other hand have good job, no kids, good education and from a good family. I would say if some can pay 50.000 baht for a poor issan girl with kids already in the nest, Then your sin sod would be about 10 million baht.

After all it is all about supply and demand and how many girls like you are there?

  9. To compare what he give the rural thai mom and then think it is cheap because the girls in US cost more have no corelation at all. Just because your Ferrari in the states had a high mpg does not tmean that you should tip the staff a the gas station in Pinklao top buck and saying "Hey, the Corolla I have now is low on mpg, so I give the difference as tip...". When you drive a Corolla, keep the Corolla budget...

    OP

Do you send your family back home 500 bucks as well?

If you send money every months on regular basis, what will happen the day you stop?

Now I am going to get my fingers smacked big time but I say it anyway:

By marrying her you show you love her, take care and provide for her and she get a US greencard as well. A thai elitecard is about 1,5 mil Baht. The greencard gives you the right to work... I reckon you can calculate that as at least 5 million Baht at least hence NO sin sod.

    No, I am not american.

  10. So Thailand finally got it's Nobel laureate.......

For asking 3000 people over a months period, I would say that this survey doesn't even deserve to be wrapped around tomorrows fish and chips.

If he got hold of the umphur office records nationally for the last year it still wouldn't constitite a survey.

My friend, the name of the university is Assumption. I don´t know if I leaned the word correctly but..."An assumption is a proposition that is taken for granted, that is, as if it were known to be true". :o And we all know whats said about assumptions: the mother of all <deleted> ups...

  11. Hello

It is hard to explain, but is the same way thai people can say if someone is from Korea or Myanmar or from some other place. How can you see if someone is Thai-Chinese? It is just more easy for people to see the differance in people in the area they come from. The avarege farang in europe would say all people from asians looks the same "they have black hair and their faces are same"

I am from Sweden. For me, people from England and Scandinavia looks pretty much the same. But it is quite easy to see if someone is from southern europe or even eastern europe. I can see if someone is from Russia easy.

My mother works for a big company called Ellos, who sell clothes in Scandinavia. Belive it or not, but the company have to adjust they clothes patterns when they sell garments to Finland. In Finland males tend to have broader shoulders and a bit longer arms than the rest of the nothern people. In the same way the poeple are abit shorter in southern europe. As a result of this the standard bed in Spain is about 200 cm long, and that can be a problem for englishmen and people from germany and Scandinavia who want to buy a bed in Spain. But this is details that are to see even if you are from europe.

  12. I just found bbc channel 4 last week because the swedish newspage I usually read work so slow these days. I find bbc 4 exellent in all aspects. May I ask what profile the channel 4 have in UK? I mean I know what status the sun, herald tribune have and so on. But what semgent is mainly listening to bbc channel 4?

  13. If you look at http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/article2083922.ab and then press on the play icon you will see clips from the pres confrence. What makes me at bit sick is the clip show him walking with the police smiling like they are pals and he won the lottery. And I ask again: is the knife really a fishermans knife?

Facts so far: Ha confesed to the murder. He fled and later turned himself in.

  14. ---"the murder weapon, a knife, have been found. It were showed on a pressconferance this morning swedish time. On the conferance the suspect answered questions.

    - We found the knife in his home. said Decha Butnampeth to Aftonbladet.

On the press conferance Akkaradej Tankae begged for forgivness from Hanna Bäcklunds family and the whole Swedish nation. The appeal were given to the general consul in Phuket, Christina Palm.

    - I am sorry. I hope her family, as well as the whole Swedish nation, can forgive me he said while he put his hands together in a thai tradition gesture and lowered his head.

Tankae continued to explain that he had been on the beach three days in a row before he meet Hanna Bäcklund. But the murder was not premeditated instead a pure coincidence.

    - I did it alone. I was not drunk, I had not been drinking alcohol said Tankae to the big media crowd at the Police station in Phuket.

    Like to watch western women

Later during the day the police took him to the beach were the murder took place. There he showed how the murder took place.

The 31 year old suspect were early on the main suspect by the police. Tankae have been working as a pool cleaner in Phuket.

The police say that many witnesses claim that Tankae like to look at western women at the beach – Mai Khao Beach – were Hanna Bäcklund were found murdered.

Tankae lives with his second wife 8 kilometer from the crimescene. He have a daughter from the first marrige.

Akkaradej Tankae served a couple of months in jail in 2006 because he were found guilty of a robbery. This time the sentence may the the hardest one Thailand have - death."

    http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/article2083922.ab

A note to the reader: Aftonbladet is Swedens biggest tabloid paper. The plea to the swedish people may come from the fact that in 2007 alone 250.000 swedes visited Thailand, mainly Phuket and Kho Samui.

On the page there is a picture of hte murder weapon. Can anyone confirm that this is a typical "fishermans knife"? To me, it looks like average bread knife.

  15. I see.

The nearest eqvalent of Split in Thailand is something like Hua Hin or Cha am.

Another soultion maybe to live in Split during summer and the other six months in Montenegro or another place close by. Google Sveti Stefan. It is a nice place in Montenegro.

  16. Have you ever been to Bangkok? It is possibly one of the least accessible major cities in the world for people that are mobility impaired no matter how slightly!

Have you ever been to Croatia where the buildings are 200 years old with stairs everywhere and only some of the apartment blocks have elevators.?

    CP

My father is croatian so I visit Croatia almost every summer. He had his legs amputated. He uses prosthes. There is no trouble living in Dubrovnik or to go to the beach there, sure there are some steps here and there but nothing else.

However, Bangkok is a major hurdle for him. There are several reasons for this. One is the pace is quite high due to trafic ect in Bangkok. To cross a street in bangkok demands some brisk walking. Secondly, there are much more stairs to walk in your everyday Bangkok than if you were to live in Split for exemple. The sidewalks have rather high steps in Bangkok.

It all depends on your disability and your lifestyle. Do you have difficulties to get into a car ect? Make sure you have someone to assist you the first week you are here then you will know how much help you may need in your everydaylife.

  17. I make some notes from this page ie not all text from the page. Just beaware that expressen is the swedish verision of UK´s the sun...: http://www.expressen.se/nyheter/1.1087001/...gs-for-sitt-liv

"She fought for her life". She was a student but had no courses at the moment so she travelled to Phuket with her childhood friend. They stayed at Mai Khao Beach Bungalows where you can chose if you want to stay in bungalow or rent a tent. They picked the later option. Yesterday morning the victim wanted to workout and take a dipp into the sea. Her friend stayed in the tent and read a book.

Policeintendent Somkid Khaosang said that "-The woman have several cut and stab wounds. We are just in the process to investigate if she were mugged or if it were a sexual assult."

But his boss Sakchai Limcharoen is convinced that ia was sexual assult -"We belive that someone have tried to rape her. We belive that she was attacked by 3-4 people".

This is the local paper the she hailed from. You can see a picture of her and the paper say that 3 or 4 people are sought after for this crime. http://vk.se/

  18. Britain's a damaged country.

Millions are in terrible debt - earning embarrassingly low salaries -

It's a taxed-to-death populace being watched over by big brother.

The populace no longer - in the main - has any trust in their government or the political process.

Crime - political correctness - and a dumbed down population obsessed with sport, celebrity, television and sex are - in the main - all that awaits you.

    Brit

Ahhh and then you prefer Thailand.... :D

In all fairness, I have only been to Britain for 6 hours in my life, and it was actually Newcastle. I was there on a cruise from my ol´Sweden with my pals. As I remember Newcastle....genuine, broad streets, nice looking bulidings, it is clean and tidy. The girls were jawdropping beautiful and were quite lightly dressed considering how cold it was. And, yes they don´t speak like they do on BBC´s tv shows...Could hardly understand a thing. As my friend said: "why do they sound like they have a hot potato in their mouth when they talk?" :D I would love to try a expat life in Britain. It even seems more nice than the big colony in the west :o .
