  1. Yes, I say that it is an excellent idea to get a Thai passport before your son leaves Thailand. Both of my sisters are Thai citizens and US citizens.(Thai by birth and US by naturalization.) When they enter and exit Thailand at the immigration points, they use Thai passports. When they enter and exit the US, they use the US passports. There is a believe by a few Thais that if you get a Thai citizenship, then you have to surrender your other citizenship/passport. This is strange to me in that I could just ask the US consulate to issue me another passport.

Just curious, as my wife will be in a similar situation (Thai citizen by birth, naturalized US) - I understand the idea of entering and leaving Thailand on Thai passports, and entering leaving US on US passport... but when your leaving Thailand, doesn't the airline want to see a visa in the Thai passport, or green card etc? i.e. Thai passports need a visa to travel to the U.S.

Do you just show the airline your US passport at that point in time but say your leaving on the Thai passport? That just sounds kinda fishy if so. Does Thai immigration care if the Thai passport has no US visa, I know they look at boarding passes so they know where your going.

  2. Just FYI I departed on-time this morning DEC 6th on UA 890 with no problems, the airport was not that busy, and check-in/immigration went smoothly.

As a nice bonus the plane was a newly reconfigured 747 - so it had those fancy new seats that I had not gotten to experience before... bit thumbs up, complete lie-flat in buisness with big widescreen LCD monitors. Two thumbs up. Only downside was the new seat configuration was temporary, as it was normally the Hong Kong -> LA routes plane.

  3. Not so. United flight 22 out of BKK to NRT was also canceled on the 5th.

"Note: Canceled due to airport conditions"

NWA flight 20 from Sing-NRT-MSP is flying of course. That's the connection I catch in Tokyo.

I've flown both the UA and NWA flights many times and I've never had issues with the international legs, other than the crabby old trolley dollies. It's only back stateside that I run into problems, particularly flying into ORD or DEN with UA. That's why the last two years I'm stuck on NWA. It's just a one hopper from MSP to NRT to BKK for me.

Once they get the security issues worked out I'm sure the American flag carriers will be very happy to be back in business again. If TSA is not satisfied I don't want to be on the plane.

There is no UA flight 22? At least international, there is one that goes LAX to JFK. Are you thinking of the code share they do with Nippon airways? There is only one United owned/operated flight to/from Bangkok and its the one to Japan.. it does however change flight numbers when they change it from a 777 to 747, which they have been going back and forth with lately.

I just don't think its fair to give united all the grief. They wanted to start on the 5th and fully expected they could, until TSA said they would not be in to inspect the airport until the 4th. I just got called this morning by United saying they were cleared for tomorrows flight on the 6th. I mean, at least they said SOMETHING, many arilines were not saying anything..... it was kind of a loose/loose situation you try and keep people informed, but you cant really know when you can fly agian.. you get a date wrong people hate you, you dont say anything, people hate you. They have constantly kept me updated with my trip status etc. They have always been good to me as well, sure they have older flight attendants, but I could care less personally - I just want my food and then to sleep without interruption... don't care who's serving =) I don't fly United domestic much, but i have heard they can be rude, but then again, so are the continental flight attendants when I fly them... I think its just an american thing =P the asian flight attendants are always so nice!

  4. I have taken that flight many times. Why just them?

Many people like to trash on United and I don't know why. Their website kept people informed and they look to be the first to get their customers out. I have a ticket with JAL to fly in on the 11th and they have kept me in the dark. I sure hope I make it, would hate to lose my yearly holiday.

    Way to go United.....

    Way to go ?

They were unable to help their passengers during the closure

JAL ANA and many other carriers flew into other airports like Chiang Mai/Phuket and U-Tapao

The service on board including food and drinks is below standard (and I am talking Business and First class)

They very very regularly cancel flights to suit their own scheduling out of Narita or combine 2 flights to save cost

Not a passenger friendly airline but maybe a good business model for themselves

In their defense, the only reason United did not fly out of U-Tapao is because TSA would not certify it. Because the only route united flys out of Bangkok is a "American Bound" route (the flight number is the same Bangkok->Narita->LA->NY), even if it is stopping in Narita, the TSA must approve the airports security before they allow united to fly it. From what I also understand TSA's certification has a lot more to do with bag security and not passenter/carry on security. Now could they have created a whole new flight number that just got people to Narita? I don't know, I don't know what is involved in that. It may be because the are "an american flag carrier" they have to follow the TSA rules no matter where they are flying.

Even right now the flight scheduled for the 6th is "pending TSA's final approval" and has a possiblity of not happening.

TG managed to fly from Bangkok to Los Angeles through Osaka during the closure

    A) TG is not an American flag carrier

:o was it the same flight number the whole way or did it change in Osaka

    C) TG has vast more resources than United's one route in Bangkok

  6. Very decent of them leaving after the court verdict that was a foregone conclusion anyway. So their shutting the airport has achieved what?

Moving the court date two weeks forward and thwarting the plan to annule the consitution on Dec 8.

I just posted this in another thread, but basically, the govt also knew it was a forgone conclusion - why did they stay? What if the court delivered the verdict in the middle of the month, as anticipated?

What would be the govt reason to hang on? I give you one - save their asses by amending consitution. The govt was quite prepared to keep the airport closed for another two weeks, they didn't give a <deleted>.

The govt was the ones keeping the airport closed? Now I'm really confused.

  7. According to TNN seems like the vast majority of the PAD will be vacating Suvarnabhumi at 10am tomorrow.

NBT reporting the same. So... let me get this straight. What happened today was already planed for a while correct? And it was expected that they would disolve the party this whole time correct? So, not that I'm sad the protestors are leaving, but what exactly did they accomplish by creating all the problems? I mean, was the verdict giong to go a different way had they not taken over Suvarnabhumi? Was it because of the takeover that they are guilty and now forced out of office?

Just seems like a waste if its like I'm understanding and PPP was giong to be disolved anyway. i.e. alot of people suffered for nothing. Someone correct me if I understand things incorrectly.

  8. I have Flash 9 installed on my Windows Vista PC... But when I try the speed test in Firefox 3, I get an error message saying the test requires at least Flash 7 installed.... What gives???

I'm having the same problem, I tried both IE7 and FF3 - both say i need at leats flash 7 and I have 9 installed... not sure whats up with that.

  9. I recently switched from True internet to KSC internet. I'm having some problems though. My MSN messenger, and my Playstation 3 now will not connect to their respective services. I talked to KSC support and they told me since I was still using the true Billion brand modem, that I should have its firmware changed. So I did that, and still, I can not connect to msn or PS3.

Does ayone know if KSC blocks certain ports or has a firewall etc ? They told me they dont firewall or have a proxy, but I can't think of why these things would have worked on my True connection but not my KSC connection if thats not the case. (just to verify it was not MSN having a problem, i used a neighbors true connection on my laptop, and it worked fine)

  10. Ok, so lets bring the poll to a close...

We have 3 votes for CORE and 5 votes for OPEN, with 3 votes of Dont Mind.

However, we have a couple of people who say after some thought and research they would have voted CORE instead of OPEN, so is it safe to assume that if a new poll was created today the focus would shift to CORE? (For the record, i think i would probably say CORE after reading all the feedback)

As we have all of today to decide, lets give everyone a chance to re-vote by simply posting on this thread with either CORE or OPEN, i will then count everything up around 8pm tonight... how does that sound?

My new vote would go for: CORE :o

    Core - Darklands

  11. I've been playing my Archmage (upto lvl11 now) and doing a lot of RvR with it, i'm really enjoying the class, i will definately be rolling this class as my main.

Once they clear the servers tomorrow, we need to get everyone together as soon as possible to create the guild. I'm not exactly sure where we have to go or what we have to do, but we do need to get 6 people i believe in order to create it :o I'll do a bit of research

Looks like they have posted the final servers..... here is the list for Oceanic:

    Oceanic Server List

    Core

    Darklands

    Ironclaw

    Lucan

    Marius

    Open RvR

    Anlec

    Roleplay

    Lustria

I find it odd that there is only one Open ... judging by the other poll the open will be more popular amongst the people... i have a feeling it will be highly crowded, which i guess can be a good thing, unless we have to start waiting in queues.

  12. I'm afraid I still have to put in a vote for the core server. I respectfully disagree that this game will be similar to wow. Wow was built form the ground up as a PvE game, with PvP a secondary priority. WAR is by far a RvR oriented game, on both types of servers, RvR is the end game content, period.

I am a big fan of, if I don't feel like pvp'ing, and I want to do some pve, or farm something for a profession, or farming for better equipment, i dont want to pvp.

I disagree that the wow pvp servers only gank at the lower level zones, I played on a wow pvp server for two years before switching to PvE, and I got incredbily tired of the ganking outside of Kara, SSC, TK, etc etc... it got very old very fast.

I still think that the core server in WAR will have something for everyone, the pve will be pain-free and you wont have to pvp if you don't want to.. the scenarios, and world RvR, which is the focus of the game, is there and very much more accessable than wow PvE servers where you could not fight anywhere out in the open world if it didn't have pvp objectives.

I just worry that, at least myself, will grow tired of the ganking like in wow, and will just move or re-roll on a core server in the end. So basically there is an escape for those that don't want all rvr all the time in core, and no escape for those people in open, in my opinion.

All this said, I will have to admit we have not played on an open ruleset server yet, so I could be blowing things out of proportion, but I have a hunch it will still have the ganking and corpse camping that plagued wow pvp.

  13. We also have to see how the population shifts on Aussie servers. I think there will be 3-4 Aussie servers and one of them will be probably open. I really want to go to one of the highest pop servers as we are playing slightly off peak times anyway. But lets see.

I agree - a high pop server is a must.

  14. I'd like to vote for Core - I've always been a fan of PvP.. but when i want it... if i feel like questing or doing something else - I don't want to engage in pvp when i dont want to...

sure we can all run around in a pack, but im not sure how long that will last - soon after lauch im sure everyone will be spread out in levels... i travel alot and will have to play catchup alot for example.

i think in core everyone would be happy because the game is very much pvp oriented, and has more then enough imho... the open server is just going to basically add in.. ganking.

    Just my 2 baht

  15. I should be on tonight, and will be rolling a Sword Master. (The more I read about this the more I think that this is the class I have been looking for).

Just for the record is everyone still playing on Darklands?

I'm on Darklands - however I just left town for a few days, so I won't be online until late this week.

  16. I'm getting about 250ms to the servers from bangkok, an improvement but not hte <100ms pings the Aussies are getting

Just curiuos, where in the interface do you see your ping? I havn't noticed it =P

It just felt more responsive than wow so far =P

  17. My favorite classes so far are: White Lion (but might not be my main anymore) and Rune Priests are awesome (my gf plays one and I tried it a bit and its just so much fun)

Tomorrow I will try a Bright Wizard. I somehow have the feeling for our high latency connections ranged classes just work better... while I played some WL today I often thought I hit the guy but didn't.

Are you guys really having bad latency? I thought the oceanic was actually quite good.. of course, I'm used to wow with 700+ ping on average =P

Keros is a bright wizzard, i think ill keep it that way, i was a fire mage on wow, its just my thing =P

  18. Hi guys, just to check in, I will be playing on the US servers too - interesting to see there might be a Thai based guild. Would be great to have other people to play with on our time zone. Will be checking back to see where you go. I preordered from Amazon US - no idea if the **** thing is going to get here in time for launch let alone the head start.

I have min pre-ordered on Amazon as well - ive ordered lots of stuff from them and they usually get here in a as quick as 5 days... but sometiems as late as three weeks =P .. but by far the average is about 5 buisness days with my experiance.

  19. Wolfie, we are on Darklands, Im Gogoboy and Frietag is Shaggles

I think im on Darklands also (one of the oceanics right?) - my character is Keros

K - im definatly on darklands - I'm an empire character... ill see if i can catch you guys in the vent you posted, nobody in there right now =)

  20. Looks like the WAR servers are going to be located in Melbourne.

Doing a tracert for to GW3.MEL1.ALTER.NET gives you a good idea of what your latency to the OZ servers will be. The beta for the oceanic servers just started the last couple of days ago as well.

I pinged 180ms. With VPN tunneling it's possible to probably get as low as 150ms to Melbourne from Thailand. I'll be picking this game up :o

I just got an invite to the beta, its taken me three days just to download the stupid thing.... am i able to tell the beta client to go to the oceanic server? or do I have to get a specific invite for the oceanic program?
