  1. My son is 4 and has been exposed to YouTube since 1, about 6 hours per day probably. He was watching Russian, Spanish and English among others I presume, I was going to limit the exposure if I found anything negative, I didn’t. He now speaks a lot of english but no idea if he picked anything else up. He started a trilingual kindergarten but cannot speak Thai and only sings in Chinese. All other kids either speak Chinese or Thai, maybe both but only one other english speaker. I think exposure needs to be more equal. He doesn’t like watching Thai cartoons because he cannot understand.

Oh the negative of all the YouTube is he is rubbish with a pen for writing, drawing or colouring and has no interest in reading.

  2. I spent far too much time today connecting similar product to app as I just bought a filter, if you don't set the country as China it will not connect as has regional settings, once I got that sorted then had problems getting it to connect to the wifi---------------- eventually all works as it should, a pain getting there though.

I have the Xiaomi 2s also and that connects fine as European or China mainland but I cannot get the sensor to connect which only appears in the China mainland region, it connects to WiFi as I can read the sensor data from my computer but not iPad, iPhone or Android. Also tried on 2 other WiFi networks but nothing. One Video on YouTube about the problem has lots of people in the same situation, maybe it’ll work in the uk.

  3. I bought this one last year https://www.lazada.co.th/products/pm25-xiaomi-smart-air-quality-monitor-pm25-detector-pm25-xiaomi-jcy01zm-i294862517-s495810444.html?spm=a2o4m.searchlist.list.3.303348ffQbBAGp&search=1

I would like to think it reads high [emoji848] but it appears to be very accurate :shock1:
We are in the outskirts of Udon Thani, 20k from centre and its been 140 - 221 for the past three days!

Did you manage to get it connected to the app, I cannot.

  4. Update:
I just received the passport after 2 weeks. I got a notification from dhl so decided to go pick it up even though no notification from the trendy office. It was available for pickup.

I used our bangkok address for the application but didn’t have any proof of address, they suggested having the rental contract sent over and translated, 2 companies said they couldn’t translate same say and it would cost 2500 baht, another company just translated the names and address and stamped it, that was accepted

  5. Smog is suddenly back big time today after a long spell of reasonable air quality. Red AQI all over Bangkok and I'm getting readings of about 80 micrograms at home.

My Xiaomi Sensor finally arrived, anyone know how to configure it in the MiHome app? I have tried multiple devices and WiFi’s but it will not work.

  6. They do. Emission, break and light tests are required to renew the yearly tax.

For 2 days last week I saw the police were stopping vehicles in the middle of the road, like they do, to check for likely candidates, they had a sensor on a long rod putting it up the exhaust. If they were doing their job right they should have taken a lot off the road, but that’s wishful thinking.

  7. Can someone clarify if I can apply for a UK Passport for my son or if his Thai mum has to be one applying.

We are not married and have not registered anything about child responsibility which it says the applicant should have.

Also I do not live in Thailand although I am here at the moment.

I have already had the photo signed and the counter signature has stated that he has known me for 20 years but I now read that it needs to be the applicant which apparently cannot be me as I don't live in Thailand or have parental responsibilities.

I am reading through 2 years of posts but haven't found the answer yet.

There was a guy on Thai PBS today demonstrating how to make a DIY air purifier with the same Hatari fan you're using, the cardboard box and a HEPA filter. He cut a square at the back of the box and attached the HEPA filter with duct tape. He also cut a circle at the front and sealed the fan with duct tape. He then closed the box and sealed the whole thing up with duct tape. I might try that method myself.

The lady in the shop showed something like that but the filter was I little too big for the box so I just placed it on top before cutting another hole in the back. Since then I have just had it placed on the fan as it can face directly upwards, not sure if I posted a photo of that before.

As I now have a meter in the Xiaomi 2s I should be able to assess my 3 DIY setups.

I could really do with them killing / catching mosquitos as it has been a nightmare today.

Perhaps best approach would be "You can hide but you can't run"

I have stopped running outside so even staying out of the smog is affecting my health.

Has anyone seen people wearing masks whilst running in the parks?

i presume those not wearing masks are mainly smokers, cannot see why they would bother ( not talking about joggers here )

  10. I have 2x Xiaomi Air Purifier 2S on order from Lazada (Phitchy shop)... these are for the bedrooms. As of yet they have not delivered. Today was their stated delivery day (1-7 Feb), no news & no responses to my enquiry. So, I'm not sure if it will arrive or not or if I am forced to cancel and get a refund.

I also have the Xiaomi Air Purifier Pro which filters up to 70sqm for the living room - purchased in Dubai and will hand cary it back to BKK this week - so its not yet been tested.

And, I have the Xiaomi MiJia Air Purifier in the car. Its installed, my Wife says its quiet - but as of yet she's not installed the App on her phone which informs the user of the readings.

  11. I bought a 2s last night, paid more than the shops but with a 30 minute delivery I am happy.

I opened the door for 5 hours to let in the "fresh air" and mosquitos which took the reading from 10 to 27, I have just closed the door and put it on Auto for an hour, it is now at 20. 70sqm apartment with all internal doors open. I don't think I'll worry too much about opening the doors and windows, I was expecting a higher reading.
I will now try to get it a bit lower.

Within a few minutes on full power I was down to 10 but after an hour it is still at 10 so I think I must have a big clean air leak such as the bathroom vent. Now putting on auto it has gone up to 17.

  12. Xiaomi brand here - Twice the price... Any chip would only effect the filter usage count capabilities of the unit...

Generally, the filter can be used up to 145 days. But there is an RFID chip inside the filter that provides a real-time data to the APP, which calculates and shows how long the filter still can be used.”

Thanks, good to know, I presume they work otherwise the reading wouldn't go down.

  13. That one isn't Xiaomi branded and probably doesn't have the RFID chip and therefore might not work, I have one from the store but not opened it yet, note sure what formaldehyde is.

  14.
The general advice when using HEPA air purifiers is simply to keep the room(s) sealed, and let the purifier do its work -- not do cycles of opening doors and windows and then closing them to run the purifier.

I am just doing some tests to find out how quickly the air becomes 'pure' again, I cannot control who opens the doors and how long they stay open for.

  16. Amount of mask wearing parents picking kids up from kindergarten was down to 1 from a high of about 15 for last Wednesday, I didn’t do a proper survey as I don't have a work permit.

I did however feel the need to wear my mask whilst crossing the road bridge, first time in 6 months so I don't understand how they say the air was cleaner today.

  17. They are quite a few offical Xiomi stores in BKK, any one know if they have stock of these, or are they sold out?

I went to 5 stores in bkk a few times, pantip and mbk have a demo unit not for sale, the small store in mbk has a reservation list for 100 units arriving on 14th for 3000 baht deposit, Bangkae store has 150+ on its list and they think mine should arrive on 20th, Seacon says arriving 5th March, they didn’t say they have a queue or not. I didn’t try the other 2 stores.
