Thanks for mentioning Cuckoo's Nest Royrex.
I am sorry we missed you Whooshing. We are closed on Mondays. We hope you come to see us again Tuesday through Sunday 10am to 10pm.

We have played here twice in the last couple months. We always had fun here before they closed a couple years ago and that still holds true for these hackers.
They currently only have 8 holes.
Green fees are 300 baht.
Cheers

Starbeams closing is not only a loss to Surin, but all of Isaan. Mike and the "Starbeams family", IMHO, offered great service, facilities, and fair in a friendly, clean and comfortable atmosphere. Best of luck in you new venture.

Tinsom,
Thank you so much for providing all of us with such laughable entertainment. Your style, class and intellect are truly reflected through you words.

Hi Brian, thanks for your reply.Just one last suggestion, invest in a kettle mate, to make a good cup of tea, you need boiling water, and those things the thais use just don't boil.
Lostinisaan, I also think that 2 or 3 farang places could survive. And if you think about it, where the french place is(or was) is an ideal position. It's central Sisaket, with parking nearby. But for me it needs to be more of a pub/restaurant, rather than just an eating place. It has a great kitchen, well able to cope if it got busy, and great space. It just needs the tables and chairs changing, a proper big screen tv, for sports or whatever people want to see, a couple of sofas for those who just want to relax, and most of all someone able to communicate with the customers.
The one big drawback would be the rent, as Brian at the cuckoo's nest was telling me it is about 25,000 a month. And also what they would want for the equipment. If you could negotiate a cheaper rent for 6 or 12 months, so that you were able to get things going, there would be a chance of success. Ideally I suppose would be if the girl is still there, she would take in a partner and they tried it together. Anyway just my thoughts.
PS Brian will be back soon mate, no complaints about the food mate, both myself and my friend enjoyed it.
My Bad,
Us Yanks are so dam_n uncivilized. Ever since we tossed all that tea in the Boston Bay we've been hopeless! I will make sure the water is piping hot next time! Thanks for the advice

Hi Appleman,
My wife's family lives a few Kms south of Yaso, so I am there quite often. I have yet to find a "Farang" bar or restaurant. but there are a few Farang friendly places. I usually stay at PP Masion Hotel in town. They have a nice Restaurant/Bar that usually has sports on. Not sure about English. Perhaps the bar at the JP Emerald hotel might have Football in English, not sure.
If you are a Golfer, there is a GREAT course (for Isaan) at the Army Base about 9 KM's north of town. Carts, Caddys, and a pretty course set in the forest.
Best of Luck

I was in there today for the first time. The host was really good. I ate a burrito for the first time in my life. I have to say it was ok, but not something that I would rush back for. The menu is very limited. But because other places in Sisaket have closed down, the owner has the chance to cash in on the good food franchise
"Uncle Willies" has gone, and also, the French place. And I can't believe that anyone thinks that the other eating hole, I think it is called Franks, is any good. Years ago I went there before he moved and the food was great, but in the last 6 months I have taken visitors there, and every time he has said sorry we are not serving food, ( and by the way this was only at lunch time), but the place was full of his friends (cronies) eating food. The man is a idiot.
I sincerely hope that the "Cuckoos Nest" succeeds, but I think that he will really have to expand his menu in order to do so. In my opinion, and what do I know, he would have been better looking for a double unit, where he would have had the room to have a bigger kitchen area, so that he would be comfortable in the space, and would be able to provide a very good menu. I doubt he will succeed in the cramped space that he now occupise.
But I do wish him, and his wife, the best of luck in their new venture.
Thanks for the input and well wishes HellYes.
As to the menu, we have been open 5 weeks and I just printed our third menu revision including a much wider variety of items. I hope you give us another chance to serve you up something you will really enjoy. I have posted a copy of the new menu on our Facebook group page if you are interested.
We feel that our location will be instrumental to our success. Not as loud as most locations, yet very central and right on the Sunday Market Street. A double wide would have been nice, but we do not feel it could be financially supported right now. Hopefully we will be successful enough to expand soon. Our kitchen expansion and remodel is coming in the very near future.
Cheers, Brian & Aew

We called it "The Cuckoo's Nest" as just a little tongue in cheek fun about all us Farangs who are cut from a different cloth than our mates who still live three blocks from where they were born.
I can tell you is that my wife and I will do our best to provide a clean, fun, small "pub" where a few of "us" crazy Farangs and our Thai family and friends can have a nice coffee, a cold beer, a cocktail, and a nice meal that you might find difficult to find in this part of Isaan.
I believe we make a great selection of HOMEMADE Mexican food including Chile Verde Burritos, Chile Colorado Burritos, Black Bean & Cheese Burritos, Pork Chimichangas, Chicken Quesadillas, Chicken Nacho Salad, Yucatan Style Salsa, Spicy Black Beans and more to come. We hope to offer Pork Carnitas, Carne Asada, and Beef and Chicken Tacos very soon. But we will not offer it unless we can give you a high quality, reasonably price meal, in a cozy environment that you can afford.
Sirchai, perhaps my use of "International" was inappropriate. We are a small place with an expanding menu. It just seamed like a "catch all category" when I wrote it. I sincerely apologize for offending you so seriously. If your find you way to our restaurant and are not satisfied with the food.....it's on me!
We offer Spaghetti with a very rich thick HOMADE meat sauce. Baguette Pizzas. All American Chicken Salad Hoagies (rolls for the "American" impaired! HaHa). We make a nice Pork Steak marinated in my own marinade. A very nice Marinated Beef Tenderloin Steak (when we can get quality Tenderloin). We hope to offer more very soon.
My Thai wife is an excellent cook with many years of experience making tasty a Thai food. She continues this experience at The Cuckoo's Nest.
We welcome anyone who wants to enjoy themselves and have a pleasant time. Please check bad attitudes at the curb!
Cheers, Brian

Thanks. I saw those and called. They are not candy. They are decorations made of Clay. Probably taste REALLY bad! 555 And I really don't care to pay the dentist bills for broken teeth.
Thanks for looking

Thanks. Going to check Ubon today. Sisaket does not have them

We are planning a small Christmas event in Sisaket to give Christmas Candy to kids around town. I am trying to find about 10,000 Small Christmas Candy Canes to give away. Does anyone know where I might find them in Isaan?

Well....As most things in Thailand....Change is inevitable!
Aon Italian Kitchen & Mexican Food is now....
American Karaoke
bA3/3 Ratchakanrodfai 3 Road
Si Sa Ket
They will be offering English and Thai Karaoke, and serving Very Good Hamburgers and Hot Dogs as well as Beer and Cocktails. They are open Fri, Sat, Sun afternoons and early evenings.
Nice place....Good people!
Almost got in trouble over this one, saying to the missus that I wanted to go there alone for a burger since I have been craving one, after she had passed on Sunday seeing it was a karaoke place and not a restaurant as I thought it was
Sorry for the "temporary" misinformation. They are going to be serving burgers again when "the butcher" comes back. Maybe next week. I was lucky enough to have a couple from the first batch(s) and they almost tasted as good as an In N Out. (probably only in my head after 9 months of Thai mystery meat burgers...HaHa).
He also is serving very good steaks and pizza.
Cheers, Brian

I spoke with a Farang friend today here in Si Sa Ket and he told me he and his Thai GF are opening a new Farang Restaurant here.
Aon Italian Kitchen & Mexican Food
bA3/3 Ratchakanrodfai 3 Road
Si Sa Ket
It is on Walking Street between Prompeman Hotel and Railroad Station, next door to Relex Day Spa.
They will offer Italian, Mexican and other Western food.
They are having a Grand Opening Bash on Friday August 14 from 6pm - ????.
It should be a great time as he will have live music and plenty of beer, cocktails and food.
Aon's will be a welcome addition to the Farang restaurants we have in Sisaket.

Thanks all for the direction! I've been to Willy & Pims a couple times and had a great time and happy belly! Really nice people! I'll give Livin" in the past today. Guess I'll have to get the Tull CD's out! HaHa
I found a nice Thai house out by the stadium and will move in in a couple weeks providing I can get a good and reliable internet connection there. It needs some "westernizing", so I'm off to talk to TTNT and TOT, buy a couple Air Con Units, and find an electrician to add ground to all the electric outlets, and some one to remodel one bathroom today.
I'm sure I'll have tons of more questions for all of you. I hope you tolerate this Isaan newbie!
All my best, Brian
