  1. again Pattaya! I am glad that I don't live in that place! :D

You are not the only one... :o

    ================================================================

You're both not 1/2 as glad as us "True-Pattayans" !!!!

Please stay in your safe-haven of "Nakhom Nowhere" and give Pattaya a wide berth, okay ? You're doing a lot of people a great favour by acting thus !

    Proud Pattayan !

    :D

"True-Pattayans"!!!!! what are you smoking buddy? You are just a Farang living in Pattaya on borrowed time and borrowed land! The only "True Pattayans" are the Thais who have lived their for centuries! You must have written this "comment" before you first coffee! A couple of law abiding Farangs say they don't want to live in a crime ridden city and you exhibit a kind of coat of pride and indignation, a flamboyant and nerdy thus proclamation(are you royal?)!! As though the city belongs to a dork like you! OK OK if the Farangs in Pattaya are like you, I won't go I promise! :D:D:D:D

  2. I suspect the US Embassy is suffering post "State of the Nation" jitters and expect a strong Muslim contingent to join the demonstration, and the paranoid peeps from the underground cubicles have wound them up that it'll be infiltrated by AQ and JI agent-provocateurs ... therefore they're warning Americans to stay away in case of Afghan/Iran/Iraq sentiments leading to assaults on their citizens.

Anyone seen if other embassies are issuing warnings?

Me - I just wish I could get down for it, but am stuck in Chiangers this weekend with visitors from afar.

what are you smoking that stimulates your imagination?

  3. eventually the word is going to get out about the "dangers of thailand" and tourist will stop coming here.

i hate taking taxis on the super highway in bangkok. they have little concern for safety, and are in a hurry to dump you off and get another fare. they only seem to care for themselves. i have talked to some taxi drivers and they say it is hard to make a living because of high fuel cost and the fact that the city gives out so many taxi licenses, i am sure this is another form of graft.

i also think that official motorcades in this country set a bad example for drivers. it is as though people drive in the fast lane in a unsafe manner to show they are important. yesterday i had to pull off the road for a motorcade here in chaingmai. i got out of my car and noticed 6 new police escort cars . i never see these new police cars on the road enforcing traffic. it is as though the people of thailand are expendable and all the tax money is given to the high officials while thais and farangs are dying in record numbers on the highways. if you talk to thais one on one most of them recent this system and only give it lip service because they are afraid of going to jail if they speak their mind. i truly believe that thailand will never enter the 21 century until this dangerous caste system changes.

i live in chaingmai and used to ride a harley as my transport. driving became so crazy here that i sold my harley and now drive a large SUV with two airbags, slowly and carefully through traffic.

  4. what is going on in koh samui? i had a good friend named gorden hunt who moved to samui 6 years ago when i moved to chaingmai. he was a drunk, but was working selling land. one day it is as though he just fell off the earth. i could no longer contact him by phone or email and have never heard from him again. i wouldn't be surprised if he was drunk, pissed off some locals, and they killed him and dumped him in the sea.

i don't mean any disrespect to the poor english family who are suffering this tragic loss, but i wonder if samui is turning into, as people say, another pataya or worse? a kind of wild west town.

  5. I also would like to say that I feel bad for the victim. Apparently one of the posters knows something about the poor lady. She sounds like a good person and she surely didn't deserve such a fate. I hope they throw the sick murdering husband into the Bangkok Hilton and keep him in shackles the rest of his life.

  6. I think this is a crime of passion, given the brutal nature of the murder. I often see in older farang tourist couples, (especially cases where the wife is fat and unattractive) a certain tension on the part of the husband who is fantasizing and thinking how he could be with a young Thai woman instead of his over the hill wife. Perhaps, the aussie suspect was sexually repressed, or even had a Thai girlfriend that was pushing him to leave his wife. He for sure is mentally unstable and I hope Thailand doesn't get stuck with the bill of incarcerating him the rest of his life.

  7. ANY enforcement of traffic laws in Thailand is a good thing and can save allot of lives. Their seems to be plenty of money here for government ego trips but not much when it comes to giving the street cop what he needs to do his job...i live in chaingmai and there is not much traffic enforcement here and many accidents and deaths on a daily basis.

But as long as lust for money exist, rank and file people will continue to die here and around the world like flies.

//Edit: Turn off your caps lock. It wasn't that special.

  8. the issue here is not being able to view porn. it is FREEDOM OF SPEECH! DEMOCRACY! of course it is not farang business what the thai government does, but what kind of democracy is it where people who live full time in thailand, who support thai families are not allowed to become citizens on a equal basis because of their ethnicity? what kind of democracy allows domestic animals to just die in the street? what kind of democracy allows its owns citizens to be slaughtered on the highways because government funds for police traffic enforcement never make it to the street level past the generals and the government officials?

when you start comparing thailand to china it is getting bad.

i would suggest that the best thing that could happen in this country is the best thing that could happen in america, the ruling parties voted out in the next election.

  9. It's always amazing.

How come a doctor can be so assertive before to do some tests and proper examinations, and also by investigating the health history of this man ?

And also, "viagra overdose" doesn't mean anything...

-did he suffer from heart disease ?

-did he take the viagra with other products (like nitrate products for instance poppers that can lead to dangerous drops in blood pressure) ?

    etc. etc.

As usual in Thailand, it's children level thinking : "oh look there is an empty viagra pack into the basket... there is a dead corpse on the bed... so as 1+1 = 5 this man is dead from an overdose of viagra".

It might be also a poor level in journalism.

there are some very capable thai forensic pathologist in this country. overdoses amoung farang are very common here. it is easy to call people stupid from the bully pulpit and i wonder sometimes why people who think thai people are stupid choose to live here and what their point of reference is? is the point of reference their own superior intellect being from a western country? somehow to me you are missing the point here in thailand...

  10. i don't feel sorry for people who come to thailand just to screw and drink. i have nothing against screwing, but some farang you see at soi cowboy and pataya are very ugly to me. i think it is OK to come here and find a thai girl or boy for sex, as long as people have mutual respect and show kindness.

there is a whole world that exist here in thailand that has nothing to do with sex and drinking out there.

so my feeling on the dead farang is, just another casualty of the sex holiday industry, he should have made some better choices and used his mind some instead of his balls.

  11. Thailand is the most expensive place in the world to buy a imported car....you have many PMs and Generals wives that need to do allot of shopping in their imported cars, so the tariffs on everything will keep going up...as for the rank and file, they are not so important. Every year His Majesty the King gives a speech telling the PMs to remember that they are in office to take care of the people. The PMs in turn ignore Him and the people and fill their pockets with money. It is a sign of a country's dignity and character in the way they treat animals, cats and dogs mostly. Take a look at some of the street dogs in BKK or Chaingmai.

  12. Thais are generally peace loving people particularly with the buddhism aspect of their culture is a great detterant to extreme violence -this beleif that if you do wrong, wrong will come back to you.

However, you are correct in your assumptions that when they blow they really blow.

In my humble opinion I believe that it has a lot to do with three aspects of thai culture

1.This "mai pen rai" (its all ok) attitude, yes it is a great way to be in life yet for example in the west and other parts of the world when something occurs thats not right or just, people vent their anger or disgust or disagreement verbally and physically (ranting and raving -maybe even kicking something) which seems to have a beneficial effect not only in letting the other person know your feelings but also provides some comfort in the form of a release. Often with a thai this has to be bottled inside and taken like a bitter pill stored inside so when something occurs to set them off, then it is like an explosion of pent up anger and negativity.

2.The majority of thais in their day to day lives suffer a great deal due to such cultural issues as the class system and this keeping face concept, they are mistreated and exploited at work, they are put down and humiliated from others who believe that they are superior due to their wealth and or skin colour, even where they were born geographically this all takes a toll on the psyche. How would you feel if you lived in an average thai's shoes for a day? You cant complain about anything, you essentially have few rights and most of the time you just have to smile and take it. It wouldnt be long until you blew up.

3.This ostentatious and often shameless displays of wealth while others have barely enough to eat, really eats away at the souls of most thais. This tacky show of wealth which is linked to a person being superior or better in their minds and then its continually forced down the throats of the have-not's like a big shit sandwich destroying innocent hope and faith in a better future for those who werent fortunate enough to be born with a silver spoon in their asses. It sends out a message that if you werent born with money or white skin etc you can work as hard as you want but you aint going to get anywhere in life.

Absolutely soul destroying stuff, imagine yourself being brought up with these social values. Would you be angry?

THANK YOU FOR THIS, I THINK WE ALL SHOULD REMIND OURSELFS OF THIS AS FARANGS ON A DAILY BASIS.

  13. Doesn't anyone have a positive comment on this topic, at least to acknowledge that the PM has just made a friendly gesture towards the farang community?

    I agree with you.

I see a lot of people on this forum just posting cynical and negative comments all the time about almost every topic.

I'll bet anything, if they would receive an invitation from the PM to discuss a business deal on which they would benefit enormously, they would run to the next tailor to have a new suit made, and accept the invitation... :D

Cynical and negative people are just insecure about themselves because if they would be positive thinkers they would react different.

Glass half empty....or half full... :o

I wonder if it is the heat&humidity, fighting with their missus, missing Mom back home, too much to drink or just boredom in this beautiful country...

Don't pay too much attention to them. They're loosers.

    LaoPo

    [/quote

intolerant people like you are the biggest losers. i can sense some negativity and insecurity in your attitude toward people who you perceive as being negative. tight a#ss people like you bore me...i'll take losers anyday over the anal rententives of the world!

  14. even if you could own land here the only land worth buying is owned by the army and government.

also, land is way over priced now. take chaingmai, my wife and i recently inquired about 10 rai in our neighborhood, chang kein, and the owner wanted 100 million baht for it. then we went to look at some "illegal" land up the mountain on a dirt road and it turned out the chinese owner was selling two rai of the slope of the hill he was living on. he said you could build a house on steps. he wanted 400k baht for the slope on his hill.

the major problem in this country in my mind is not a farang problem, but a problem for all, pollution and improper disposal of garbage. i believe it will come back to bite thailand like a two headed snake.

chaingmai is going through major development now. allot of major tourist venues are being constructed. but who is going to want to come to them when you can't even see the mountains surrounding the city because of carbon from cars and people burning everything up.

  15. i am using ADSL with csloxinfo. lox makes you pay the bill in advance everymonth. they only asked for a copy of a passport. if they tell me i need

a work permit i will put it in my wife's name, like i have had to do with so many things here.

i lived in hawaii for 5 years prior to moving to thailand. i am a caucasian american. in hawaii non asian people are called haules. if you are white or black

(blacks are called pupulo),you can live in hawaii for 15 years and never be considered a local. any asian who moves to hawaii is automatically a local when they move to hawaii because they are asian.

many of the roadblocks that are thrown at farangs here are similar to the stories of the minor indian bureaucrat at a remote outpost who stops a white for hours just to let off his frustration at the whiteman. or perhaps a statement of ones

fear of the whiteman? keeping the whiteman in line so he will not take over.

in the end i feel the good qaulities of the masses of thai people out weigh the bad. and it is the beauty of the common thai people that keeps me here. not the egotism, ethnocentricism and greed of the powers at be.

  16. fug you sanctimonious as*es on this sight. bloody losers all.

some poor guy kills himself and you are flip about it.

headline...."drug crazed american" what is this? thai forum attempt to revive yellow journalism? as though the german who is passing out aids to hundreds of thai girls is not crazed? or the two euros who killed thai kills this year where not crazed?

you show more sympathy for a as*hole farang in motorcycle accident, who only cares if he is getting enough money than a poor kid who gets drunk and hangs himself! you can even make jokes about the poor guys tragic end.

maybe those of you who think this is a joke you should get off the computer and stop playing god for a minute and do some soul searching out there in the real world.

  17. i also find this story very disturbing and very very tragic.

i think that the high profile nature of this crime will make it imperative for the justice system to act

i would ask the question...what kind of social climate is this, where people are afraid of the police?. it is as though the police force in the south is more like a mafia family than a protector of society.

i find the recent lack of interest and commitment to the yearly speech by His Majesty the King to parliament (urging them to take a more humanitarian approach), evidence that reform is not in the offing and that self centered corruption is the rule of the day, as western consumerism consumes Thailand.

perhaps such a climate breeds rouge cops.

  18. i am a whiteman who used to goe to black bars in america to hear blues and hang arround black people. i found that i could survive in black bars by not hitting on other guys girls.

there are plenty of woman available for farangs in this country, it is unique in that respect. thai men in this country are very accepting of farang man, thai woman relations.

i dont know the brit that was killed and of course he didn't deserve what he got. the guy could have told him to get the heck out of his cab and walk home. i hope that the thai man pays for this crime.

in farang murdered by thai cases, my mind always drifts back to a german man that was shot in chaingmai about four years ago. i happen to meet his girlfriend after the incident. she told me that the german guy took care of her family and bought them a house. but he did have a reputation as being a snook when he got high. he flipped off a thai man with a crippled leg, and it was as though all the years of being abused for being handicaped came out at the german guy.

somehow all this stuff seems to evolve around alcohol and drugs and in chaingmai it is rumored that the german guys murder was over drugs.

better to stay away from drugs and bars if you want to grow old in this country.

  19. he will be lucky to get a jury not composed of thai visa.com contributors. you guys are tough.

i feel that he is suffering enough inside now, he is in a hades ( i used he*l and it was censored..HOW STUPID) of his own creation.

any of us has a murderer inside of him or her. the unlucky ones cannot contain it.

have some sympathy for this poor sick bastard.

  20. i was happy to hear that you and your wife will survive.

any effort on the part of the thai perpatrater was only to pay you off and end the thing as soon as possible, actually i think you were lucky to get what you got. because you don't want to get tied up in the court system here.

my other thought is anybody who rides a motorbike in this country has big odds of getting hurt or killed. if you can't afford a car, take a songtow.

i rode a harley here for three years went down once and hit a poor thai man on a motorbike( who i paid off right away, fixed the bike, paid the hospital bill, gave him about three month rages).

i will never ride a motorbike in this country again!

  21. i think your are wrong that koreans get a automatic three month stay without a visa. if that is the case, thailand should make the visa process much more vigourous for koreans because in my opinion they are some of the most callous and self centered people on earth. as for kiwis who knows and who cares, i just hope the lord of the rings trilogy ends soon, after all it is a trilogy.
