  1. I am looking for one (or more) guitarplayers in Chiang Mai, to record a few instrumental songs which I have composed. The songs are kind of “folk”-sounding, based on acoustic (or half-acoustic) guitar, on occasion mixed with electric guitar with clean sound/”jazz” sound. Most of the songs are about 1-2 minutes long. Some features only one guitar, others have three guitars together in certain parts. The technical difficulty of the material is moderate, sometimes leaning towards advanced.

The person(s) recording the material should be able to learn the songs by listening to midi-files of the material in combination with reading the tablature/notation.

I will not pay a lot, but will pay decent by Thai standards. With thai musicians, language COULD become a problem.

Does anyone know someone who could be interested in this? Or perhaps I could contact a music school and find a good guitar teacher, i.e? Any input on good music schools, with teachers who generally speak some amount of English?

G'day Andreas, our lead guitarist will arrive back in Chiang Mai on the 17th of August. He sent me the following email :-

Mike can you do me a favor, someone on thai visa under the Chiang Mai section is looking for a session player to help him record some material, can you put him on to my email adress so I can contact him, I would like to do his stuff when I get back 17th August, maybe good for my Thai resume, not interested in the money he is offering, explain I read and was a session player in Sydney also hold a degree in Music, Composition and arranging plus advanced Jazz studies from Sydney conservatorium of music.

    Thanks

    Charles

Send me a private message and I will send his email address to you.

  2. So informal that it's often a really good laugh is the Tuesday folk music night at The Garden guest house and restaurant, Rachadamnoen Rd, about halfway down and almost next door to the Writers Club & Wine Bar. British, Irish, Australian folk (and some American ballads) with acoustic guitars, harmonica, banjo, penny whistle and a very talented flute player. The same place has blues on Sunday nights during the popular 'Walking Street' market. We are fortunate here in Chiang Mai. Something for everybody.

I agree Tuesday nights and especially Sunday nights at The Garden are great nights out, lots of fun and some great music. The entertainment starts at about 7:30 with traditional Thai (Issan) music with a jazz twist as Boonhugsa are joined by a sax player and a percussionist. At about 9 PM Warren Simpson plays some accoustic slide blues with 'Boy' a great Thai guitarist who later joins Deja Voodoo for electric Blues until about midnight.

  4. Hi,

I want to know some details about TOT ADSL packages, if anyone can tell me details about TOT 1Mbps package. I need to know few things,

1.) Is there any registration fee?

2.) Are they charge for the router or adsl modem? if yes, How much cost is it? (can u tell the model number of it, or pic)

3.) TOT 1Mbps ADSL is package is worth to have?

    thanks.

I used TOT for 3 months on a 1.5 meg contract. I rarely recieved more than 250 kbph!! Ringing their customer service line was a joke! My Thai partner and I many spent almost an hour being passed from one section to another before giving up with no satisfaction. Their promises of a visit from a 'technician' never eventuated. We would wait home all day for nothing. It seems their left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Finally as a protest we stopped paying them and told them to come pick up the modem and disconect their phone line. Nobody came, of course, I have since changed to TT&T and am very happy with their service. They actually called back twice while we were on hold (interminably) with TOT. If I pay for a car I don't want someone telling me I should be happy recieving a wheel!

    My advise, FORGET about TOT!!

  5. PB, that's an insinuating post, seemingly intended to incite a flame. I will not respond to that. Clearly there were (and are) thugs on both sides, and nobody on this forum including Koo has any way of knowing which individuals (thugs or genuinely concerned people) will be in what rally.

You also seem to think that all Reds have an anti-gay or even right-wing agenda though obviously some might.. Like the yellow camp, it's not a homogeneous group. Currently the only thing that unites them is that they don't like the way the Dems and establishment cheated their way to power. Perhaps Koo can comment on that.

Either way the questions in your post insinuate that Koo knows who those thugs are, and even if they will join that rally. It's a pointless question from which no good can come other than flames. I would expect better, to guide a discussion in a balanced and respectful way.

I think a lynching is a bit more serious than 'Thuggery'! Have there been any arrests, or is this case in the 'Too Hard Basket'? How come these Red Shirts get away with violence with impunity?

  6. I was there and Eddie Baytos and Joe Cummings did a great job. Probalby one the best live acts I've ever seen in Chiang Mai. I didn't like the first gig of Tracy Chapman. I'm sorry that's not her name. I think she's called Cherry Lee. After her was one more band playing, which was quite good.

I've heard Cherry playing a few times, she sings great and has a good repertoire. I can't think why you didn't like her, perhaps you like a different style of music.

    Cheers Big Ears :-)
