Reporting back in on return to Thailand
MART replied to jaffas21's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
The 90-day report of address is called TM47. What you are asking about is probably the TM30. If you search for these specific "forms", you'll find relevant information. I find this website useful https://tm30.io/tm30_vs_tm47 . One's host (hotel, landlord, etc.) is supposed to do the TM30 within 24 hours after their guests (tenant, etc.) have arrived at their place of residence. As DrJack54 said, it's not that strictly enforced. -
ED visa (e-visa) Cash in Bank
MART replied to eppic's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Typical... Try your luck with a cover letter explaining your situation. Provide evidence of the LTR visa(s), funds in brokerage account and $2K not seasoned for 3 months. It is not unlikely to work. -
ED visa (e-visa) Cash in Bank
MART replied to eppic's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
2K? 2,000 USD? Where does this come from? It's a very small amount of money, so I am surprised... Should it be on a bank account which holder is the child or one of the parents? Such a small amount... Just do as they ask. What difference does it make? However, I'm pretty sure it does not make any sense. I've inquired about admission at an international school, they did not care at all which visa my son holds. -
I've just read your "Divorce, yes or no?" topic. If you're moving to a provincial town or village in Thailand, you'll have lots to do with your kids. There won't be any decent school around your place. You'll have to homeschool them if you want them to learn something and to be fluent in your native language. That should keep you busy and you won't need a work permit for that.

Thailand Considers Shortening Visa-Free Stays for Chinese Tourists
MART replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Please remind me how large Singapore is. -
Of course I know about the IDP. Unfortunately, ours are almost expired and applying for fresh ones comes with significant costs and hassles, since we do not live in the country where they were issued.

Sorry, but I am not sure to understand. I know a CoR is valid for a month only, but did you get a CoR on the basis of a TM30 registration made by a hotel? What did you show to the officer?
-
Thank you, interesting. Which means that I could drive a car registered under the name of the previous owner? Does not solve our problem though, since we'll have to apply for Thai driving licenses as well.
-
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I really need a car very quickly to drive my son to school and need planning. The fact that airbnb hosts do not always comply with their TM30 obligations is precisely why I am thinking about booking a night or two in a hotel to get a TM30. And I'd love to have a confirmation that this will work.

Visa Options After Work Permit Cancellation
MART replied to JayLeno's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
25K to change the extension type, sounds very pricy to me. -
And yes, if you buy a refundable ticket, they will refund 100% of the price. They're expensive, but that's why people buy them. But again, some research is needed to find the right ticket/airline.
-
You can usually find such information on their website. Last time I applied for a refund, it took a week or so.
-
Your friend can book refundable flights and cancel them once their visa is approved.

Thank you. Well yeah, there are reasons why I would prefer to renew it now, although I do understand that it is not ideal. Let's imagine I enter the Kingdom a first time with my current passport (which number matches the one on my e-visa). If I then exit Thailand and renew my passport outside of Thailand, will I be fine entering Thailand with both passports (one of which is cancelled but which number matches the one on my e-visa)?
-
Hello! I've read multiple topics on FB and here about what happens when one renews their passport while holding an e-visa which is still valid. My situation is somewhat different though, I think. I hold a DTV visa valid until 2030. I've never used it though (I have never got an entry stamp on the basis of this DTV visa) because I had to change my plans. I plan to use it later this year. Since I will be applying for a new passport for my son soon, I am thinking about applying for a new one for me too. Am I likely to have any troubles entering Thailand with a new passport and my DTV e-visa, since I will not have used this visa yet? Or will I be fine just showing the 2 passports (the old one which number is on the e-visa and the new one with another number)? Thanks for your help!

DTV didnt got any news for 3 weeks, what to do?
MART replied to NoNSmile's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I've had a similar experience with Ankara. They approved my DTV a couple of days after my intended date of arrival. In the mean time I had changed my plans. They do not answer e-mails, but I got replies on Facebook messenger. However, they weren't very useful, they just told me to wait basically. If you already have a flight booking (I did not have one), contact them on messenger and show it to them. This may help. Mine took several months to get approved, but I did apply well in advance. If you submitted all necessary documents, you should be fine. They don't seem to be particularly picky or demanding, they're just very slow. -
Thanks for sharing your experience too! I did the motorbike license from scratch back in 2008. The tests are pretty straightforward, but still a bit of a pain / waste of time.
