  1. The good news is that the atheists are winning. Polytheism is dead, only one more god to go.

Yeah right...then we will have to contend with the likes of Stalin, Pol Pot,Mao etc

    All glorious atheists.....

....by the way...I've never met an atheist that respects human life...if anything ,the opposite.

    1) Neither Stalin, Pol Pot, or Mao ever did anything in the name of atheism. That's an old, predictable and fallacious argument.

    2) I don't think I've ever said this about a comment without having any evidence but I am going to call your second claim complete and utter bulls**t.

    3) There are lots of things in this world that have caused conflict and other evils. By no means are they all related to religion (and indeed in many or most cases where they ostensibly are, the religion in question is merely a vehicle by which vested interests justify themselves and rally support). It is an obvious fact that many evils have been committed by people who were atheists. What is also a fact is that, while some evil acts have been committed because of the religious beliefs of the perpetrator, we have no evidence whatsoever that someone has done some great evil BECAUSE they were atheists.

I was just going to hit the reply button when I read this reply. Very well said. Atheism is the position that something is not supported by evidence and therfore is not true. This does not lead to mass murder. Stalin and the other non theists did their terrible deeds for totally different reasons.

  2. Calling all car experts!

I was hoping I could get some advice as I am going to relocate and need to sell my car.

Have been looking on different websites but see very different pricing for used cars.

It is a 2010 (april) fortuner, 3.0 Diesel, full time 4wheel drive V spec, cruise control etc etc.

No accidents, 30 K on the clock, cared for like a baby.

(Informed) advice would be much appreciated!

  3. Hi,

The trip never happened but now it looks like it will be March!

Had a look on www.iamkohchang.com , nice site to read, good info, thanks

What about north white sand beach, any suggestions where to stay there, looks like it is a bit less busy there?

How is the beach of Klong Prao, sandy?

    ^^^^^ABSOLUTE RUBBISH^^^^^

While the landslide and flood did occur (a month ago yesterday) all the repairs were made weeks ago. A worker died when one unfinished bungalow collapsed--unfortunate in any case but certainly less than "a few deaths". The weather has been fine for 10 days--not a drop of rain. The landslide damage to the road (2 places only) has long been repaired. Many nice resorts have bargain prices.

Visit several websites--www.iamkohchang.com is a good start--and you'll have a plethora of choices.

Methinks the above poster has his own agenda...

altho my info may have been a 4 weeks old was just passing on what he may not have heard. I think he would have also checked out further sources before making his decision. Yeah right agenda i can see where i mentioned the area i live in or other options. Have a drink on me and chill ....:D

  4. Going for a long weekend to Koh Chang, never been before.

    Looking for:

    swimming pool

    Sandy beach (snorkling?)

    Good local food

    Nice atmosphere

have car, so do not need to be in the middle of the busy areas

    Any reccomdations?

    Many thanks

  5. The Fortuner...............

To all intends and purposes it's a dolled up Vigo.

    It has the Vigo chassis.

    It handles like the Vigo.

It looks very much like the Vigo from the front.

Its top speed is that of a Vigo.

The interior is very much the same as the Vigo double cab

It's fuel consuption is much the same as the Vigo.

It's overall perfomane is very much on a Par with it's sister the Vigo.

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig, but hey never mind I bet it is handy for all the off-road school runs and shopping trips.

I will not get into a long argument with you but I suggest that you test drive a Fortuner and study the specs. You will find that it has a completely different suspension from the Vigo and with Traction control and Stability control it handles completely differently. You have of course shifted the goal posts because the earlier comments were regarding comparing the Fortuner with a CRV not a Vigo and you can not compare the Vigo with the CRV or perhaps you can. In fact living up country I would rather have a Vigo than a CRV any day. The Fortuner adds more comfort in the cab, a better and safer ride and ensures that the shopping in back does not get wet.

I have driven the Fortuner several times, both long distance and around town and being the owner of both a CRV and a Vigo I am of the opinion that the drive and feel very much like my pick-up,

Anyway each to their own and I seeing it's popularity with the Hua Hin wideboy businessmen, property developers and estate agents, then what can you say......they deserve each other

Funny that, if you drive the same car, you must be the same type of person!

  6. I think that Ciao at the Marriott is a very nice place for a romantic dinner. It's located directly at the beach, nice ambience, and the food is really not bad - but bear in mind that the whole place is outdoors - no aircon area - so at times it could become a little warm when there is no breeze from the sea.

What about the italian restaurants at the Hyatt, Anantara & Intercontinental?

  7. Plakapong Kao, but might be labelled as Sea Bass or Sea Perch.

Plakapong Khoa is not the same as a barramundi, it is more like a seabass.

Barramundi and seabass are very simmilar, but there are differences. The meat of the sea bass is a little dryer than the barramundi.

(talking about warm water fish) The nose of the sea bass is longer as well.

Used to buy barra in the market..no idea what thai name is just bought it by apperance..maybe it was sea bass?

Anyway since then started buying something the wife calls "Tomuk" ( spell?/pronounced phonetically)...lovely fish ...tastes and texture of sea perch used to buy frozen in Europe if I can remember lol..

.worth a try... I think better than barra....and priced below barra at 130-160 baht/kilo

    Tomuk?

    What colour is the skin?

  8. Plakapong Kao, but might be labelled as Sea Bass or Sea Perch.

  9. I used to drive a focus 2.0

The best handling (normal) car I have ever driven.

Much better than a civic or a toyota.

That's interesting looks like the only one of the few with a diesel option. jap.gif

Yes, and if I would not be worried about selling it again in two years, I would buy another one!

Can you elaborate on that; you struggled to sell a focus here before? hatch or saloon?

I'm currently looking at the honda/ford/mazda/toyota options in this price range (new), and for me, the Ford 2.0 TDCI with 6 speed powershift box appeals the most as a 'drivers' car....

But obviously I'm aware that in general hatches aren't popular here, and in this section at least, Ford aren't a popular make.

You have any other comments on the focus?

Never owned an auto, but hate the slow gear changes and the pre-planning required to accelerate for an overtake on standard autos (waiting for the kick down...)

I loved the focus, i had the 2.0 s version with trip tronic auto gearbox. The kickdown was a little slow, but not too bad.

It reaaly handles well, is comfortable, and I find the interiour better than any other car in the same price range.

The 2.0 petrol is thursty though, now drive a fortuner diesel and am getting better KM/Liter on long trips.

Again, I would have bought the diesel focus, but wanted a car that would be easy to sell at a good price.

Sold my focus last time within 1-2 months, but lost quite a bit of money compared to a toyota or honda.

  10. So, beer in Bali is more expensive than Thailand, then Bali is more expensive than Thailand.

    :burp:

Sorry, I lived in Bali and in Thailand, but beer is much cheaper (bintang) in Bali than anywhere is Thailand!

Especially if you drink in stand alone restaurants.

Wine is even more expensive than in Thailand, as is food.

Balinese food has a few nice dishes, but it all tastes the same after a while, does not compare to Thai food in both variaty, taste and quality.

Yes, Kuta ia a sh..hole, seminyak is nice, Jimbaran beach is great, uluwatu is a great area, ubud is cool (still), Sanur is nice for a beer and a bite on the beach!

  11. seems like pajero is a better choice, but is the 5 years 150,000km still available?

It really depends on why you buy the car

I need a car that I can sell quickly if needed and that does not loose to much value within the first 3 years

If I would know I would be driving the car for at east 5 years, I would have bought smething else, but as it is I got a fortuner, very happy with it

  12. I too am amazed to hear the term "options" - I'ver been trying to get an idea of options on either a pickup or pickup based SUV and have drawn a complete blank on any options. I'm now considering getting a second hand model and fitting my own

they r all running very tight logistics in LOS, with no options. Not even BMW or Benz has options. In addition Toyotas logistic is extreme with only 4-5 exterior colors and one interior color.

600k units a year on thousands of dealers on 63 million people does not allow options.

Fortuner, I believe cruisecontrol only comes with navi, check it out if CC is important to you.

Hi, I have a V spec 4WD fortuner, not the navigator one, but it does have cruise control

    cheers

  13. Every bar and noodle shop will be showing the WC.

I don't think so, with a 6 hour time difference England's first match is a 1am kick off. This is the one I think he's interested in

I think you'll find that the one he's interested in, is the one being shown with English commentary.

Just a hunch of course. :)

Not really interested in the English games, but thanks anyway!

  14. I have always suspected soccer fans to be moronic. __________Now I know for sure ! ---------------They need to be TOLD when the idiot with the ball manages to score a goal !

Never thought that a simple question could generate such friendly respones!

Since you use the word "Soccer" I presume you hail from the US? (or maybe Australia)

I have to admit, the commentary given on sports in mentioned countries is elecrifying and educational....especially the tractor pulling :)

Now, anybody know if there is a place that shows FOOTBALL with English commentary?

  15. Hi,

Planning a Bangkok run this week coming in from the south.

Will be coming in over the bridge. Then I need to get to Sukhumvit.

Normally I get in via soi 3, is that a problem at the moment?

    Thanks in advance!

  16. You might even think about putting petitions in Farang buisnesses in and around Hua Hin....Name..resident or tourist status...HOWEVER........It would need to also be sent to the Head office in Bangkok . Really hope it works.

    I am all for English,

Resident or Tourist or Working status may be a problem as there is a large illegal workforce in Hua Hin, immigration might be gratefull. :)

    Any news?

I heard some soundtrack movies were playing?

  17. As an option, I have a performance chip fitted to my Fortuner. Takes the BHP from 163 or whatever standard is to around 190 ish. It does make a nice difference especially in that overtaking band when you need the extra power. What I find very strange is pre chipped it was doing 11.3 to the liter and now I get 12.6. Flame away but thats what the reading says and that is 6 months since I last reset it and doing town runs to school and distance runs to the coast etc. I expect my emissions are all to shit but over here.....

    Hi,

Just got a fortuner, very happy with it.

That chip, does it affect the noise levels?

Does it mean that the warrenty is no longer valid?

    Tahnks
