  2. For the £1500 use a Currency exchange Company like www.SmartCurrencies.com or www.WorldwideCurrencies.com both are UK based I have used them both and they are fast and easy to deal with.

Yes agreed www.SmartCurrencies.com are very professional and a great service

But a better and easier online service and with the best rates is: http://www.caxtonfx.com/

These guys will solve all your problems as long as you have a bank acct in the UK and a bank acct in Thailand in YOUR name, min transfer is £100 and upto £20,000 with NO FEES, they just take a cut of the exchange which works out FAR cheaper than using your atm card in Thailand they also offer the best rates out of all the others in the same game) I have used them for 2 years now and never had a problem takes me 3 work days to get my money from Santander to Kasikorn:)

  3. No Thailand has never used Trans Proxies if they had have been the unblockus service would never have worked in the first place (this is straight from the horses mouth see email below)

I have tried changing DNS on the router and on the PC still not working, dont forget it WAS working fine until about the start of May so why not now?

Thailand may have Trans Proxies in place but they do not enable them and it looks as though they are now to cut costs and save much needed bandwidth.

    Email from UnblockUs

For now, if there is indeed an external transparent proxy, then you won't be

able to get through. We're working on alternative solution, but it's too

early to tell when it will be available.

    Thanks,

    UnblockUs Support

Believe what you like, it's a known fact that most ISP's in Thailand use transparent proxies, regardless of what unblockus say.

Search this forum, you will see it has been discussed often before.

I have just received an email from CS stating that True started using TP's in May.....now thats why I cannot access unblockus just as they said, no idea where youre getting youre info from but its incorrect....

  5. I use unblockus DNS so as to watch BBC etc and over the last week it has stopped working.

btw strongvpn is still working fine but its a completely different setup to unblockus.

I am also having problems accessing some websites, with "tcp error pages coming up" and theres nothing wrong with my router or system this problem has only just started and on both of my PC's in my room.

I have CSLox info SME 8mb package which basically goes thru True (approx 6500bt per month)

Heres the thing, email from unblockus figure it out for yourself...

nb I have deleted my static IP mentioned below in the email for obvious reasons.

One other thing that I would like to add:

I did a tracert ping test for Google and guess what it returned an error code 5 and error code 31 on a ping test this is unheard of, however i tried again 10 min later and the ping test was working fine, WEIRD things a happening in Thailand right now!

I'm not sure what's going on with your system, but it definitely look like transparent proxy OR your router has extra DNS field, which points to "wrong" DNS server. You can call your provider to check if they know anything about transparent proxies, but they may not tell even if they do. It's hard to tell why it happens, some providers want to cut costs, others tell stories about some government regulations. Largest provider in Singapore (SingTel) have it enabled all the time. Here is why I think this is a proxy OR incorrect DNS setup: 1. We have two different IP's for the same host name check.unblock-us.com: 184.106.242.193 is published on "standard" DNS servers and 184.106.248.229 on "ours" 2. You're connecting to our system from ***.***.***.***, which is probably your permanent IP with this provider. 3. At 20:17:05 GMT there was DNS query from your IP on our DNS asking about check.unblock-us.com (our "check service" page) and our DNS immediately returned 184.106.248.229 as required. 4. At 20:17:07 GMT your browser connected to 184.106.242.193, i.e. "standard" IP, which should never happen if it was using our DNS response. This means that either a transparent proxy uses "standard" DNS server OR your computer (at least occasionally) resolves IP's at "standard" DNS server. In both cases you'll get the same symptoms.

  6. Hulu and Hulu Plus work fine using unblock US watching hulu (not hulu plus) using it now

    Correct...

Been using unblock-us for ages and Hulu has always worked 100% of the time, anybody who cannot receive Hulu should check their settings as they are obviously wrong. UK C4 and C5 are coming shortly in the meantime just use a VPN if you want these channels

btw: I have not configured my router to use unblock-us I have just changed the DNS settings on my laptop that streams to my TV Hulu has worked ever since, just thought I'd give you guys on TV the heads up on unblock-us so all could benefit :)

PS. I also have a Sky Player subscription I pay monthly for this and get all the football (EPL) Live streams and History NGC/Sky movies and the channel list goes on forever all "Live" not OD (although they also have an OD service) You can also use Windows Media Centre to access Sky, unblock-us does not work on the Sky Player as yet but VPN does :)

  7. Negreanu, if you know more about this, please do chime in.... I don't have a Roku box, but I've read and heard a lot about them.

I do think Roku is one of the better media extenders for folks living in the U.S. For folks living in Thailand, I'm not sure....for two reasons...

    1. A lot of the content available like Netflix and Pandora requires a U.S. IP address in order to receive it. I never saw that Roku boxes had the ability to use their own VPN or PPTP type connection to acquire a different IP...

Similarly, I had a friend who set up a Western Dig WD Live box at my home a while back that ran off my wireless and acquired its own local IP address, with no seeming ability via the box to change it.

    2. When they first came out, I emailed Roku tech support because all their online product info was unclear about whether their AC adapters would work with 220V...in addition to 110-120V from the U.S. Eventually, they answered back that their power adapters only supported 110-120V, and weren't dual use. So I'd assume you'd have to use a power converter with them here.

My friend's WD box, bought in Thailand, came with a dual use AC adapter, so that was no problem.

But the built-in programming choices in it were pretty limited....and the remote control and onscreen interface were pretty slow and balky...

So far, for video streaming, I haven't found anything that beats a good laptop with a wired or good wireless N connection, running VPN or PPTP software, and a video out port connection to my nearby TV.

    Hi Guys,

Dont waste your money on a set top box for streaming (I have one i bought a while bak and its locked up in a cuboard now:) Just setup a PC/Laptop via HDMI cable (or wireless HDMI if you can afford it:) then just go to www.vudu.com sign up and download the BOXEE app (this has all the netflix/hulu etc programs on it) then either use Strong VPN open or pptp (open is more expensive and not always faster) or better still go to www.unblock-us.com ($4.99pm or $49py) these guys supply DNS servers you dont have to bother with VPN (Which slows down your PC) just change the DNS in your connection setup (they supply Asia/EU/USA DNS) and bingo your streaming without the VPN chokepoint!! With STB's you also have to setup your router for VPN which can be a nightmare for those less computer geeks out there, this system take 1 minute to setup ....

btw: The only advantage is security with VPN as its encrypted but who cares as long as youve got your firewall etc setup no probs,....

FYI: I pay approx 7000bt pm for CSLox SME 8mb package, which was awesome at the start but has declined lately so got True guys coming over in a couple o dayz to kit me out with the 100mb Ultra High Speed Package :)

    Enjoy the free info!!

  8. I use free software HWMonitor (do a google search for a link) for checking temps and for more info go to the eee forums at the link i provided earlier in this thread.

I wouldnt worry too much the older eee machines do not have ION graphics like the 1215n does this is what is causing the heat, like i said i wouldnt worry too much as this is normal, they all run very hot to the touch.

  9. Yes mine runs hot as well in the same place think you will find that that is the GPU, I monitor all temps every day and so far temps are fine, however every GPU and CPU is different so might be an idea to monitor just in case, if your GPU is running at 60degrees + all the time get extra cooling.

I have read that all 1215n's have this so wouldnt worry too much:)

  10. Good stuff BKK. The link you posted above to the EEE user site is excellent. Lots of good info there. I'm sorely tempted to overclock mine as you have done, but not sure about it just yet. Like you said above, if it ain't broke... and I'm still flabbergasted by the speed of the stock configuration.

Yes I am always very careful when O'Cing I have all the CPU and GPU Temp gauges running whilst adjusting the speeds very gradually, every CPU is different I could probably have clocked up to 2.2ghz but didnt want to have to deal with any over heating problems, if you do oc make sure you have a good laptop cooler with loads o fans blasting lol...biggrin.gif

  11. I do a lot of online HDMI streaming with a laptop permanently hooked upto my Philips LED TV, I have a feeling the icons are there its just that you need to change your laptop screen resolution so they show up:)

What laptop and TV are you using?

Also depending on what TV you are using there may be a PC connection setting you have to choose which adjusts the TV screen to suit, on my Phillips TV I had to choose the "Unscaled" setting on my remote when setting up the TV screen with a PC.
