  1. I was using the word ignorant not merely because of a disagreement but becuae of actual ignorance.

The majority view of people posting on this forum seems to be that drugs cause crime and death therefore arresting and killing people for involvement in drugs is a good idea. That is ignorance.

As I have said already alchohol causes more violence, crime and death than even heroin but no one would think it fair for drinkers to be rounded up and given long hard prison time.

The idea that heroin and ecstacy are equally damaging is ignorance.

The idea that weed is as bad as yabah or cocaine as bad as crack is sheer ignorance.

The idea that everyone who uses drugs is an addict or a loser is equally ignorant.

The idea that all drug dealers are dangerous lowlives worthy of the death penalty is yet more outstanding ignorance.

The idea that damaging drugs should be illegal but alchohol shouldn't is not only ignorance it's hypocrisy.

So the people who support prohibition, life sentences and execution for drugs are ignorant and immoral but if they like a brew I add hypocrisy to that charge.

In 50 years, most people in developed countries will share your point of view on this, as I do today... but they are conditioned by their culture and fear whether they know it or not and mainly cannot be convinced. But some people will read your posts and see their own inner perspectives being expressed well & clearly in your posts on this topic. That in my opinion is a good public service. Good on ya for so eloquently sharing this balanced & level headed perspective.

I know what you are saying is right. Remember to take a deep breath if the ignorant ones (bless them) get on your case too much.

  2. I agree with those basically saying that it is possible to use discernment without judging.

It has been taught that both pre and post judging are the same bullsh*t. Judge (anytime) and you will be judged is what living life (not reading a book) has taught me. Since I do not want to be, nor do I like being judged, I choose to do my part to stop creating it = refraining from judgement while retained the quality of discernment.

That works for me anyhow. Others are welcome to their own way about it :)

  3. but if you are an electronics engineer why didn't your family consult you before spending so much money.

Read again. He wasn't the one who bought them.

A lot of Thai people believe they are superior to farangs, they probably are wondering why the farang engineer is no praising them.

The folder has a picture of a farang in there (an American Russian or Russian American guy) that is supposed to be a doctor or something similar. He organizes this scam in several countries. He even took a USA patent on his invention.

They got a free ray-blocking device which they glued to their TV. It about 1cmx3 mm big.It is supposed to cost 1000B. The same company also cells devices that are supposed to block the radiation of mobile phones. I can tell you as an electronics engineer, that none of these devices work.

This post is not a joke, you can check all my other posts....

MRET is very poplar in Thailand and they make advertisement on Thai TV.

    So, please be warned!

The parents of my wife bought these devices.

The parents of my wife are still using them and really think they work (they don't believe me).

They are patiently waiting and looking at these devices for 30 minutes to see how the LED blinks.

    It's so sad.

The problem in Thailand is the huge amount of pseudo-science that is going around here and the general lack of education.

While the warning is appreciable.... it IS scientifically verifiable that placebo's often work. :)

  4. in case of doubt, don't do it. :)

    simple and right.

    Main Entry: sen·tient

    Pronunciation: \ˈsen(t)-sh(ē-)ənt, ˈsen-tē-ənt\

    Function: adjective

Etymology: Latin sentient-, sentiens, present participle of sentire to perceive, feel

    Date: 1632

1 : responsive to or conscious of sense impressions <sentient beings>

    2 : aware

3 : finely sensitive in perception or feeling

    — sen·tient·ly adverb

According to m-w.com sentient beings don't have to respond consciously to sense impressions, just respond. Mosquitos and Ants respond to sense impressions.

Me? I feel it when I kill anything and do my best to not kill anything, and teaching my daughter the same. However, at this time of year where we live (middle of canada) you do not just watch a mosquito suck your blood... or that of your 2 year old... you smack it asap and you smack to kill.

  5. The Commentaries are opinions of monks who were writing long after the Buddha was gone. As Ven Thanissaro says, "the point of the prohibitions is to keep the bhikkhus from being burdened with looking after those who are a burden or an embarrassment to their families."

The monks wouldn't be able to achieve their goal of becoming enlightened if everyone dumped their disabled family members at the monastery and left the monks to look after them. IMO, it's a matter of practicality. Just look at the way people dump unwanted pets at the nearby monastery, making it difficult for the monks to meditate because of the noise.

Funny... serving others especially those less fortunate or cast away by society or family would seem to be one of the most ultimate acts of selflessness & compassion.

  6. Everything Thaksin touched was tainted. Every program to "help the poor" only enriched him and his cronies.

That's why "the poor" kept voting en mass for him right? And continue to essentially.

I'm new and not disagreeing with you, but the observable past and current election results suggest you know something they dont?. :o
