Great news. Thanks for the quick response.

We're crossing into Thailand at Sadao to get a 30 day visa exemption stamp. Can we show the equivalent of 10,000 B in Euros or does it have to be in Thai baht ? Thanks.
-
Thanks Ubonjoe. We'll take 10,000 each. We're not doing a one day border run but are coming in new to Thailand after 7 months away.

We're planning to cross into Thailand from Malaysia at Sadao to get a 30 day tourist exemption stamp next month. Has anyone crossed over in the last 3 months ? Do we just need 10,000 B each ?
I'm a UK national and my boyfriend's Dutch. We were last in Thailand on SETVs from November 2018- April 2019. We have 6 SETVs in our passports and we got a blue stamp in Vientiane in January 2019 when we got our last SETV so we're not going to try for a SETV in Penang. Instead the plan is to get a tourist exemption stamp, extend that and then get another tourist exemption stamp in January in Mae Sai and extend that so we can stay for 4 months. We can see about getting new passports further down the line.
Any recent info on the Sadao crossing would be great and what we need for a tourist exemption stamp crossing [and not for a SETV crossing ]. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I'll contact them and see if I can renew with them.

I'm a female UK national and want to renew my UK passport with VFS in Chiang Mai in November. I'll be there for 4 months as a tourist. Can I still apply or it only for people living there all year ?
I spend all year in SE Asia and do not visit the UK. I normally send the renewal to the UK and get my new passport sent to the UK Honorary Consul in Penang but this seems easier. Cheers

Thanks for your amazingly quick reply. That's a relief as we don't like carrying so much cash about. Thank you.

I'm a UK national and my boyfriend's Dutch. On 9th January 2019 we're going to Vientiane to get a Thai 60 day visa and will then spend a week travelling north through Laos to enter Thailand at Chiang Khong. Do we need to have 20,000 B each ? I don't want to have to travel for a week with so much money on us if it's not necessary. When we cross into Thailand at Nong Khai we've never been asked so we hope it's the same at Chiang Khong. Has anyone crossed the Chiang Khong border recently ?
We've been in Thailand since 12th November 2018 on a 60 day visa from Penang and before that we spent November 2017- April 2018 in Thailand. Thanks.

He has used the tourist visa already [entry mid-November] and has got the new passport since entering Thailand. So do they move the visa to the new passport first before doing the extension or is it done at the same time ?
Thanks for the bus link but that's the free shuttle bus that doesn't start til 11.30 am.

My boyfriend is a Dutch national. He's got a new passport so needs to have his tourist visa transferred to his new passport plus he wants to get a 30 day extension to his tourist visa. Can this all be done at the same time in Promenada ? Is there any public transport there ? We know there's the free shuttle from Amora but that's only in the afternoon. Thanks.

"There is already a limit on back to backs from Laos and there is still the possibility to apply for METV in Malaysia and Srilanka"
We were in the Thai Consulate in Penang this morning and they told us that METVs are ONLY for Malaysian residents.

Sat, 21st and Sun, 22nd November 2015.
Mutliple sources.
Thanks for the exact dates. As the 1 st November is on a Sunday I wasn't sure if half a weekend counted to being the first weekend in November. We go every year but they never know the following year's dates when we're there !!!

I presume it's the 20th-22nd November but I'd like to be sure. I can't find any English contact details for the Surin tourist info centre. Thanks.

Is the Saturday parade from Narawat Bridge starting at 8 am or 4 pm as I've seen both times advertised ?

Short walk? With luggage, mid-day from Plaza to Airport? Get real man.
Actually I'm a woman and my boyfriend and I have had no problem with luggage and the walk. Take a songthaew from Plaza to the Airport if you have mobility problems.
If you want to be even cheaper you can take the free shuttle from Amora Hotel to Airport Plaza which runs every hour though I can't see why 150 B direct from Arcade to the Airport is considered expensive. Some people just enjoy doing it the cheapest way I guess.
-
You can take Bus 11 from Arcade to Airport Plaza and then it's a short walk to the airport. The bus costs 15 B and leaves Arcade at 6 and 7 am and 4 and 5 pm.

I thought Carols by Candlelight was on Friday 19th December at 7 pm at the Gymkana Club but at Rimping Supermarket there is a poster saying it's on Sunday 21st December at 5 pm at All Saints Church. Are they 2 different events ? Thanks.

"No-one seemed to be posting about actual experiences at the Mae Sai border."
huh?

My boyfriend's bus left at 6am this morning so this post was too late to be useful for us.

I'm a UK national and my Dutch boyfriend just got a second 15 day visa exemption stamp today at Mae Sai with no problem and no questions asked. He's on his way back on the Green Bus but I thought I'd post this as it's concrete evidence that it is possible to get more than 1 visa exemption stamp.
We arrived in Thailand in November 2013 on a single entry Tourist Visa from Penang. In January 2014 we went to Laos and re-entered Thailand on a double entry Tourist Visa. When that ran out we went to Mae Sai on 7th May and got our first visa exemption stamp. I got 30 days as a UK citizen and my Dutch boyfriend got 15 days. Today he went to Mae Sai and got his second 15 day visa exemption stamp.
We were worried that they would start the new rules and say that because he had a 15 day visa exemption stamp 2 weeks ago he couldn't have another. No-one seemed to be posting about actual experiences at the Mae Sai border. So it does seem like the new rules start 13th August.

The Green Bus online site shows they run minivans from CM to Lampang but no schedule is shown. Does anyone know if there are fixed departure times or do they just leave when full ? Thanks.

The sign says " candlelight procession to the temple" . Does anyone know which temple and what time please ?

The parade starts at 8 am Saturday 2nd Feb from Nawarat Bridge.

We were there on 20th Jan and the Burmese wouldn't accept 10 dollars even though they had on 6th Jan. They insisted on 500 B
It only takes them 5 mins to do the paperwork and not an hour.

New British passport from KL High Commission
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted · Edited by flashlight92
I won't have a permanent address while in KL. Would I not be able to get it sent to the high commission or another collection point in KL?
I got mine sent to the British Honorary Consul in Penang in 2016, no problem. Just check with him first to see it's OK.
I got the one before that sent to the British High Commission in KL. again no problem.
