  1. I won't have a permanent address while in KL. Would I not be able to get it sent to the high commission or another collection point in KL?

I got mine sent to the British Honorary Consul in Penang in 2016, no problem. Just check with him first to see it's OK.

I got the one before that sent to the British High Commission in KL. again no problem.

  2. We're planning to cross into Thailand from Malaysia at Sadao to get a 30 day tourist exemption stamp next month. Has anyone crossed over in the last 3 months ? Do we just need 10,000 B each ?

I'm a UK national and my boyfriend's Dutch. We were last in Thailand on SETVs from November 2018- April 2019. We have 6 SETVs in our passports and we got a blue stamp in Vientiane in January 2019 when we got our last SETV so we're not going to try for a SETV in Penang. Instead the plan is to get a tourist exemption stamp, extend that and then get another tourist exemption stamp in January in Mae Sai and extend that so we can stay for 4 months. We can see about getting new passports further down the line.

Any recent info on the Sadao crossing would be great and what we need for a tourist exemption stamp crossing [and not for a SETV crossing ]. Thanks.

  3. I'm a female UK national and want to renew my UK passport with VFS in Chiang Mai in November. I'll be there for 4 months as a tourist. Can I still apply or it only for people living there all year ?

I spend all year in SE Asia and do not visit the UK. I normally send the renewal to the UK and get my new passport sent to the UK Honorary Consul in Penang but this seems easier. Cheers

  4. I'm a UK national and my boyfriend's Dutch. On 9th January 2019 we're going to Vientiane to get a Thai 60 day visa and will then spend a week travelling north through Laos to enter Thailand at Chiang Khong. Do we need to have 20,000 B each ? I don't want to have to travel for a week with so much money on us if it's not necessary. When we cross into Thailand at Nong Khai we've never been asked so we hope it's the same at Chiang Khong. Has anyone crossed the Chiang Khong border recently ?

We've been in Thailand since 12th November 2018 on a 60 day visa from Penang and before that we spent November 2017- April 2018 in Thailand. Thanks.

  5. Short walk? With luggage, mid-day from Plaza to Airport? Get real man.

Actually I'm a woman and my boyfriend and I have had no problem with luggage and the walk. Take a songthaew from Plaza to the Airport if you have mobility problems.

If you want to be even cheaper you can take the free shuttle from Amora Hotel to Airport Plaza which runs every hour though I can't see why 150 B direct from Arcade to the Airport is considered expensive. Some people just enjoy doing it the cheapest way I guess.

  6. I'm a UK national and my Dutch boyfriend just got a second 15 day visa exemption stamp today at Mae Sai with no problem and no questions asked. He's on his way back on the Green Bus but I thought I'd post this as it's concrete evidence that it is possible to get more than 1 visa exemption stamp.

We arrived in Thailand in November 2013 on a single entry Tourist Visa from Penang. In January 2014 we went to Laos and re-entered Thailand on a double entry Tourist Visa. When that ran out we went to Mae Sai on 7th May and got our first visa exemption stamp. I got 30 days as a UK citizen and my Dutch boyfriend got 15 days. Today he went to Mae Sai and got his second 15 day visa exemption stamp.

We were worried that they would start the new rules and say that because he had a 15 day visa exemption stamp 2 weeks ago he couldn't have another. No-one seemed to be posting about actual experiences at the Mae Sai border. So it does seem like the new rules start 13th August.
