  1. Its a good idea for the tourist industry, but it stops there. There is so many chances of getting sick traveling to and from. Some of the tourists would arrive or become active spreaders inside the bubble. There is a significant chance you would get sick needing weeks of extensive hospital treatment. This is Thailand, someone have to pay, and good luck finding an insurance company willing to touch the 10+ hour plane trip and stay inside the "bubble".

  2. How about the thai police try the case in a british court? Against a british lawyer?

These guys face the death penalty. Any doubt in the world should be gone before that sentence is handed to them.

Right now I'm personally convinced they've been tortured, people paid to give false testimonies and evidence have been tampered with. There is just too much dirty smell about the whole investigation to be just lost in translation.

  3. Good for the police. However, my guess is most still have that little lingering doubt in the back of their heads. The two myanmar are of course toast now. Its jail, court, death sentence for them. Most likely within 2 or 3 months. Maybe even earlier if the government want to show the world they are safe before december.

Oh and this is also why I'm opposed to any country to have the capital punishment no matter how "clear" the case is. Humane treatment of even the worst criminals is one of the things that make for a better society.

  4. So the thousands of hi so that rushed to the shops buying all the gadgets to look cool for a day of selfies, most likely burned 100 x more CO2 from production of said bikes and gadgets then they normally use in their cars.

Now if they continued to use that bike every day, there would be a return to that CO2 investment. However 99.9% of those bikes will be in storage, and forgotten before the next bike day.

  5. Is taking DNA samples from everyone on the island even legal? Seems like a human rights violation to me.

Also, far too little, far too late. The killers are long gone. They were probably gone by the time the bodies were found.

The police handling of this case from the very beginning has been nothing but gross incompetence.

No such thing as human rights violations in Thailand, especially when under martial law. The constitution has been suspended.

Keep in mind too that DNA testing also has the ability to identify relatives of the killers.

Its legal in most western democracies. During a murder investigation in my own country, everyone suspected of beeing out on town that night where called to the police for questioning and asked to give a DNA sample. Technically they asked, but given the consequence of not giving that sample, I suspect that it would look very suspect even if you said "I was home sleeping, but I dont want to give my DNA". Now this is some years ago, but it took 4 months to sort out who where the killer based on those samples.

The point is, get the samples and questioning done as soon as possible. Then find the match and build the case.

  6. The reporting about the autopsy results where horrible. There was absolutly no reason to go into details on what evidence where found of a sexual motive for the murders. It should not have been given in that detail from the police to the press and it should not be printed without rewriting by the press. And on the off chance something like this would come from some emotionally stumped reporter, there is an editor that should stop such reporting. It is a tragedy for the family made so much worse by the country that the tragedy happened in and the mindset that have been alowed to develop in modern Thailand.

  7. Deputy govt spokesman says PM sorry over 'bikini quote'

BANGKOK: -- Deputy government Spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha was sorry after learning that his comment over the murder of British tourists caused a furore.

Sansern said Prayuth was also sorry that part of his statement was selectively played up without taking his intention into account.

Sansern said Prayuth had good intention to protect tourists and wanted to see all sides cooperate to increase security for foreigners.

Why can't he say it himself?

My guess is its not in his skill set after climbing the military ladder to the top.

  8. Oh great an editorial piece and the byline.... The Nation.... fantastic its a nameless article. Yes the article is correct and I agree, but with who????

    Ummm....the editor?

"a newspaper article written by or on behalf of an editor that gives an opinion on a topical issue."

Be gentle with the less able guys...

  9. How can you educate the young about corruption without having Thaksin's name as an example of being part of the root cause of it?

    Bizarre, but TiT..

If only Taksin had not invented corruption then the world would be a better place.

But i agree what you try to say. He should be in the history books to educate kids what corruption could lead to and how one person can (mis-) use a system for his own profit.

Why would the junta not want to warn kids of those dangers???

Maybe the demonisation is hard to do in more then headlines and a academic setting could lead to questionable -- questions?

What there is no question about is that Thailand did a hard right turn, so be happy or -- well there is no alternative in that kind of society.

  10. Sorry to be a cynic, but salt and/or grain should be involved. Snide remarks about related new involving a certain Nort-redacted leader with a huge ego pointing at stuff could also be made.

This is of course pure propaganda. Its embarassing for the current regime as they promissed no flooding after shooting down the actuall plan to make flooding less devesating.

Its just a fact that if another 2011 situation arises, Thailand is not one step closer to preventing that flood to put huge part of industry and a don muang airport under water again.
