I've flown Air Asia many times, always with good results but also always on short hauls (Bkk to Hkt for example), never on the long haul or international flights. When a flight is barely an hour there is hardly time for service anyway!

OK, I'm going to answer my own post because I hate leaving things open...
On the 6th floor of MBK you can find the What's Shop that specialize in shoe painting and do fantastic custom work. They did a pair of shoes for my daughter in about 24 hours and she absolutely loves them. So, if you are in the market for a unique and custom gift at reasonable prices, check them out.

Excellent capture, just the right exposure to show the foreground detail and the lightning! That must have been quite the site... Thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone for the info, even the conflicting opinions! I've been to LOS enough to appreciate that reality sometimes falls in the gray area. Anyway, I've rented cars in Thailand before with no problems. The last rental car place I used told me that an IDP was not required although I have had one in the past. Cheap insurance for $10 but nothing in it is written in Thai!

OK, not a resident... Am I correct that as a tourist I can rent a motorbike and drive on my home license (US) for a week or two while in Thailand? If a resident one would be best advised to get a Thai license. Based on what I have read a tourist should not need (and probably couldn't) to get a Thai DL. Correct?

I saw a vendor in MBK in March that I think was on the top floor that did artwork on tennis shoes (converse type). I thought what a neat gift idea and wanted to contact them regarding pricing, etc. so I can work something out when I'm back in October. I did buy a necklace or something from them and collected a business card with website info but of course have lost it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?? thanks in advance...

Ok, probably a stupid question, but what constitutes the proper license for renting and driving a small moto (Honda dream type, automatic, not a big bike)? I've rented cars in Thailand using only my home license (US), will that suffice?

Loft means a room at the top of the house, usually just under the roof. The original Food Loft is, I think, in Central Chidlom and is on the top floor of the building.
I think the Food Loft in Central Pattaya is terrific, but I do draw the line at B.190 for a glass of house wine (even though they are excellent wines not the usual Italian crap sold by the gallon).
To forestall questions, Chidlom is in Bangkok.
I've eaten at the Food Loft in Bangkok and highly recommend it. Especially if you are with a group as everyone can choose what they want. I don't recall the prices though... Glad to here there is one in Pattaya now.

Good Hearty Breakfast
in Pattaya

I'm not English so probably not an expert in the art of determining what a good English breakfast is but I really enjoyed said breakfast at Canterbury Tales recently. Sorry, I don't remember what it cost but it was quite good.
