  1. The solution is to not use FedEx or any of the other couriers.

The duty itself is about $45 (40%), the killer is their Clearance Charge.

You may want to edit that PDF to remove your personal information, if you upload the new file to another post I'll remove the existing one for you.

Wrong. The solution is simpler than blaming FedEx, DHL or similar.

I dont know how many time I've posted this, but here it goes again:

Tax is not calculated by FedEx, DHL or similar. Neither is the tax calculated based on the PRICE. The tax is calculated based on the VALUE. For this reason, it doesn't matter if you make a bargain or send the goods as a "gift", the item is taxed based on its value.

How come this is so difficult to understand?

Because the value is about 3,000baht, on the import it says 10% tax, and I get to pay 2,790 baht...

If you look at the picture, 1,484 baht is going in FedEx's pocket.

  2. Hi,

I just wanted to know if they is a way around or if this is normal:

Ordered a lithium battery for my bike from a US website, price 110 USD. Paid the shipping costs via FedEx express about 40 USD.

Now it's been 2 weeks already and today I receive news from FedEx saying my package has been delayed customs, they want a copy of my passport.

After sending them a copy I receive (see attached pdf -> edit: picture), a fee of 2,790 baht, which is about 90% of the value of my battery. I find this outrageous.

Is this normal? Anyone had any similar experience?

  3. Thanks a lot, that's probably it.

Sorry also didn't realize there is a whole fishing forum on thaivisa (not very familiar with fishing). Found this in a thread also:

"I visited Boomtown for the first time yesterday. It's behind Rimping Supermarket (Chiang Mai). The owner is Pat, has a lot of supplies and he has great English as well, I was able to get a lot of info from him about local fishing techniques. I recommend a visit if you are up in this area. "

There's many fishing stores throughout Chiang Mai.

But is it the Daiwa Black Gold reel series that your friends are after? I was ogling a Daiwa BG60 just last week on the road to Bo San at Mr B's shop.

I don't know anything about a black gold thread.

  4. Hi people from Chiang Mai,

I got visit here who are looking for fishing accessories since they told me most of the stuff they buy in France is made in Thailand.

If someone knows a shop (here in Chiang Mai or in BKK) or a website it would be most welcome.

What he is looking for is some thread I think it's called Black Gold with some number.

    Thanks for any advice

  5. I planned to visit a friend in Lat Phrao (ลาดพร้าว) this weekend, thing is my plane lands at 9pm in Bangkok. Anyone knows if there will be taxis?

Is the curfew strictly applied in Bangkok? Here in Chiang Mai I went out yesterday like any other night, they just stopped serving drinks after 9pm, but we could stay in the bar until 10.30

  6. Sorry about double posting, but I don't have the rights to reply to my previous post (if anybody knows why...?). To give more specifications I meant Developer (in Software development). I actually earn ~95k DOLLARS A YEAR and not baht a month. And at last I've been in the south of Thailand (Phuket Island) and also north (Chiang Mai) and loved this places, is Bangkok comparable to Chiang Mai from lifestyle?

Thanks (and if somebody knows what I'm doing wrong and why I can't reply my original post... let me know)

  7. Sawaddi crap everybody,

I'm new to this forum (is my first post^^). I'm living and working in Switzerland in IT (first as consultant (developper) and since not long as project manager). I would like to know if there are lots of opportunities in northern Thailand (espacially near Chiang Mai) in my domain, and if it's difficult to get a working visa and at last what the salaries are like (knowing in Switzerland as relatively junior, I'm 25, I earn ~95k $/year).

Regards and thanks for any answer!
