I managed to contact my girlfriend in Hat yai at about 8.00am this morning.<BR>She is stranded on the first floor of her house with 2 young children, no power, little food and water, and little money.<BR>She said the water was about 2 metres and still rising. What can I do???<BR>Can anyone update me on the situation.?

My girlfriend is in soi 15, any updates on the situation would be appreciated.

No job! Poor girl - how does she make a living in Thailand? How does she provide for her parents and possible children?

Are you aware that quite a few Thai-girls consider it to be a job to have a farang boyfriend, or often several farang boy-friends, who pay for her company, and send her money on a regular basis? Some even travel abroad on paid holidays, to visit their farang boyfriends. In the statistics these girls all appear as unemployed. And if they have once tried that money comes easy without working hard, they will never ever take a regular job. Don´t play with fire, if you do not wish to get burned, and even more important - Don´t waste your time and money!

I am not trying to say that this is the reason why your girlfriend appear to be unemployed, but I do advise you to be very carefull and consider this possibility!

I do hope that your home has proper heating, as she will require an indoor temperature around 27 degrees Celcius (also in the bedroom). Please be prepared to buy her lots of warm clothes, if you are planning to go out.

However I have little savings due to a very expensive divorce in France.

Here is the whole story:-

My brother met his Thai wife on the internet, they fell in love and got married!!!!!!!!! Absolutely no problems, she is an angel....

Following his lead I went online and met someone who interested me.

After 4 months of internet chat I went to Thailand to meet her,.... yes the spark was there!!

After 3 days she announced that she wanted to take some of her family on a holiday as they had never seen the sea, could I help with the cost!

I was having a great time and said yes, she paid for the hotel (pretty basic) and I paid for the travel and food, in all cost me £200 for 3 days, not bad as there were 13 including me.

Many times her relatives hovered around expecting a few extras to be paid for and, many times she gently berated me for offering to pay.

On our return we got engaged, great party at her house for which i paid £300, plus gold of £750 for her status??

Now here is the crux of the matter....................

We have talked of marriage, yes I want this, so maybe I have lead the conversation.

NOW she says her family want me to pay a dowry....500,000 bhat, I said NO!!

She says she will think again, and then says, it must be 500,000 bhat!

At the same time after 14 years suddenly her business is not doing well ( she owns 2 beauty salons),

So now I have sent her £1,500 and have said I will send £200 each month

She is 42yrs Isaan, she has 3 sons, eldest is 24yrs (a complete lazy b*st*rd, waste of space) next is 22yrs(nice bloke ,works in the salon with his wife,both like to play more than work!) and last is 4yrs old reminds me of my own boys at that age.

Ask your g/f or her sister to scan and e-mail the refusal notice to you and you will then be able to establish the visa officer's thinking.

Where did I go wrong?

My Girlfriend has just been refused a holiday visa to come to England for one month.

She received a phone call to say that it was because we have not known each other long enough and we are not married!!

I know that all the paperwork was correct and all documents were supplied, in addition I supplied all my bank statements/pay slips,proof of address and ability to support her if sponsorship was required.

Also proof that she has her own business (proper registered business that pays thai tax) proof of home ownership and the fact that she has a dependent son to return to.

We met 6 months ago on the internet and I went to Thailand in February.

Also she had no problem getting a German visa in 2006 to visit her sister.

So where did I go wrong ?
