  1. Attempt made on January 12 2015,

Did a little research and flew into Jakarta to get a 60 day tourist visa.

    A few problems:

    1. most travel agencies in Jakarta will not do a 60 day visa for you, which means you will probably have to do it yourself. I did not actually find a travel agency that would do the visa for me.

    2. Here are the requirements the staff at the thai embassy told me I must meet:

    A. Return air plane ticket. The clerk at the desk was terribly nice and typically Indonesia he also informed me that my existing return ticket was invalid because it is scheduled for less than 30 days after I returned to Thailand. I told him I was planning on changing my departure date when I returned to Thailand, he told me I had to change my departure date from Thailand before applying. In other words you need a ticket leaving Thailand scheduled for more than a month after you arrive. I would recommend getting one 2 -3 months after your intended return to Thailand.

    B. Hotel Reservation.

I asked for clarification (I've been in Thailand for 30 days sleeping on a couch at a friend's house) and he said in my case I would need a letter from the owner of the house stating something. I'm not sure if the hotel reservations would need to be for the entire duration of your stay or if they're ok with you having say a week planned in Bangkok before exploring the Islands etc.

    C. Financial Statement under the applicant's name (min THB 20,000 or 700 USD)

    D. Ebola check Health Certificate (only for Ebola effect areas)

not sure on what qualifies as an Ebola infected area taken that cases of Ebola have been reported in the U.S. now.

Anyways, this was my first attempt at a 60 day in over 2 years. Not sure where to post reports, but Jakarta is a little sparse on info so wanted to update.

  2. I got a double entry 60 day tourist visa in Laos. I entered Thailand on march 4th and got a 30 day extension on the first entry to June 1st. On June 1st I left the country via Cambodia, ate some Cambodian food, and then re-entered, only to be told that both entires on the visa had to be used before may 31st. They also told me I could appeal at an embassy. Is this true? Do both entires have been in the period written under enter before? I made my first entry well before the entry date on the visa. Is there anything I can do?

  3. Immigration took pity on me. Despite the lady from immigration explaining exactly what she needed over the phone yesterday, Siam Computer gave me the wrong paper work twice today, they did not include a letter of appointment, they did however let me cancel my work permit. The people at immigration wrote a note next to my nonb and signed it, but told me my paper work is still incorrect, but because I had been there so many times and the visa expires tomorrow that I could leave the country. Siam Computer's lady in charge of visa issues did not pick up the phone despite repeated calls and text messages. Anyways, it looks like I am able to leave, but my ability to get a new visa has been impaired by Sam' inability to get me the correct paper work. Additionally Sam told me not to go to Charngwattana Immigration, but rather to go straight to the border with the piece of paper that Bangkok immigration would not take.

  4. Ok so the letter Siam Comouter gave me is not the right one. Hey said I need the letter they gave me and the letter of appointment too. Hey now have my work permit too. I talked to them and we're going to try again tomorrow, but they kinda seem to want me to stay with Siam. My 90 day extension is due today and my work permit and nonb all expire march 1st if that helps.

  5. Hey,

I've had the same nonb visa for 3 years and I left my job recently. My nonb visa expires March 1st, however my next 90 day report is due February 27th. Can I leave the country and change back to a 60 day tourist visa on February 27th? March 1st? or when the work permit expires which appars to be on march 1st. Or do I have to get the work permit and visa cancelled by bringing them a letter from my employer stating that I do not work for them anymore?

  6. a teacher at my school claims that his old school cancelled his work permit by phone. the teacher still has the physical work permit, which states that it and the non-b visa are valid till the end of the month, but his former school claims that his work permit was cancelled on the 12th of this month and that he has overstayed his visa. Can a Thai employer cancel a work permit by phone if they don't have the physical work permit? How can one check to see if one's work permit has been cancelled?

  7. As the sender has put the value of the contents of the package on the receipt then there is very little you can do I think. Either pay up or send it back. I tell people to just put gift and a small price on anything and have had no trouble. Sorry :sorry:

I don't even know if there is an appeal option :o

yeah, it was marked gift, but I checked the invoice from customs and they seem to have taken the 480 usd value and somehow slapped

a fee on it that's over half the value of the package. just unbelievable.... 7,980 baht for a christmas present...

  8. Hi Folks,FedEx called me last week to tell me I had a package at Customs at the airport.

They wanted to know what was inside it. I had no idea I had a package coming, so I didn't know what was inside it. After a few e-mails with Fedex I got a list of the packages contents

    Wii Board 80 USD

    Slide Projector 100 USD

    Shoes 250 USD

    Lego Game 50 USD

    Total 480 USD

After a few days I received a notice from customs stating that I owed them 7,980 baht in fees to import these items into Thailand. This a tax that's over 50% of the stated value of the items. Does anyone know what price I should be paying in import fees for a digital projector, a wii fit balance board, a pair of nice shoes, and a board game made by lego? Any help would be appreciated.

  9. Is his wife Thai?

"Karl and his wife (who is still in New Zealand) planned on teaching in Bangkok" - so probably not thai and can't speak thai

yeah, his wife isn't thai. anyway, he might be in a hospital in Minburi. We're still trying to figure it out.

Wow, just stumbled on to this one. I met Karl when we were caught in the start-up of this mess on Friday afternoon in Rangnam. Shared a beer and then made a dash to Soi 14.

I do hope he is alright. Let me know if you have any up-date.

We know that he was ok up till Thursday. We're still looking for him.
