  1. I purchased Mountain Lion from the app store. After clicking on the “Download” link, I noticed that what should have been a 4+ gigabyte download finished in just one or two seconds and it was actually only a 70 mb file. When trying to install, I got a message saying the file was corrupted and it can't be used. Tried downloading ML 10x, but it never worked and I ultimately got a refund from Apple. Thinking about trying to purchase Mountain Lion again at some point and am wondering if anybody else in Thailand has had a similar problem when trying to download it?

  2. You have 2 gig of ram. I am 99% certain that if you add another 2 gig, you will see a difference in speed. While you are at it, add 6 gig. Why not? Update your os to Snow Leopard as well, so you can take advantage of the App store and other goodies. OSX loves ram. Think of it as Cookie Monster.

So, first choice, add 2 or 4 more gigs of ram.

    Second, update the OS

Third, remove the old drive and add an SSD drive.

All of these will improve your speed.

    Good luck.

Thanks for your suggestions. Like I said, I admittedly know nothing about computers. However, according to Apple support (excepted below), I can only add another 1 GB practically to the iMac model I have (late 2006 17 inch). I wonder if that would make much of a difference in terms of my problem. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my original post; I really just don't want to see that spinning beach ball quite so dang often.

(From Apply support website) The maximum amount of RAM you can install in the iMac (Early 2006), iMac (Mid 2006) and iMac (17-inch Late 2006 CD) is 2 GB total (a 1 GB SO-DIMM in each of the two slots). The maximum amount of RAM you can install in the iMac (Late 2006) models other than the one mentioned above is 4 GB total (a 2 GB SO-DIMM in each of the two slots) but the computer will only use a maximum of 3 GB of RAM. Refer to iMac (Late 2006): Memory Specifications for more information.

  3. Difficult to answer your question if you do not post your specs here. I would say add more ram, but I have no idea what ram you have now.

I live in Central Bangkok near Chitom BTS. The computer "expert" who came to service my computer last month said that RAM was not the problem, but I have no idea whether he is right or not.

  4. Remote app won't load iTunes library from my iMac onto either my iPhone 3GS or iPad after enabling homesharing on the desktop and iOS devices - "song now playing", recently played and some playlists are visible, but not entire library; any Mac gurus out there have a suggestion?
