  1. Also, there is a very nice karaoke bar next to Rhun Thip!!! :cheese:

:D Is it possible to slap somebody with email? :o:D

LOL ..... off-topic slightly, anyone else with Google Earth fancy collaborating on a DarkSide .kmz file ?? perhaps then we could post it here for others to use.

  2. I live close to the lucky time bar, and as others have stated it is the type of bar you can take your wife/girlfriend to with no problems as in no working girls there and it is a british style local pub, it's done out really well, concerning the food, Thai food good, farang food bad.

For 'action' bars, Black pearl 1 is crap, however Blackpearl 2 is good, with swimming pool and jacuzzi, skinny dipping with the staff is encouraged, same goes for La guinette (spelling).

I'll try and find a map which was marked out by the owner of Noi's bar, it has most of the darkside bars on it with their location, give me 10-15 minutes and i'll post it here.

Good work v8tfcorty !! - a map is just what this thread needs !!

  3. :o Dark Siders

Lets use this thread to discuss other amenaties we have over here on the Dark Side basically anything goes except for restaurants which should be on the original Dark Side.

From the original Dark Side thread I have learnt of places I didn't know existed such as the Black Pearl, the Butterfly, Dark Side of Dao even to things such as Bakery shops and minimart that sell beer out of hours etc, so I would like to expand on thing like that on this thread.

Please remember to provide location details as sometimes finding some of these places on the Dark Side can be a challenge.

To start us off I will suggest a good wateriing hole on Nernplubwaan which is the Lucky Time bar, which has a nice atmosphere for a few drinks and a game of pool etc and much cheaper beer prices than what is found on the other side.

Actually, Paul, the Lucky Time was mentioned very early in the original Dark Side thread. As I noted there, I stopped in one afternnoon for a quick beer, while walking home from Carrefour (just for the exercise). I agree with your assessment. I was surprised to find a nice, seemingly ordinary pub-like place. Female waitresses, but, at least at that hour, no BGs. Very nice atmosphere.

If the food service stays as it is at "The Courtyard", they might want to consider changing that to the same type of venue, because it may collapse as a restaurant!

Just my Two 'pennorth. The Lucky Time also has Darts and Pool teams, both of which participate in the Pattaya leagues. If you are after a quiet game of pool/darts etc. and want a relaxed (no BG scene) friendly atmosphere in which to have a few beers (its safe to take the missus as well) then it is hard to beat - especially as I can walk there in under five minutes ;o)

in addition: coming from Sukkie, about 300 metres over the Railway lines on the RHS is a large snooker hall, with 'proper' snooker tables called "Marine Snooker" (its next to the Marine Ice factory for those that know it). If you are looking for a proper snooker table on which to have a few frames then this place is very good, there isn't any A/C etc. but a few chilled bottles of beer halp to keep the sweat down.

Also, almost directly opposite this (on the LHS of the road, just past TW City Home village), is a Thai 'open-air' restaurant (I don't know the name) with a dark green 'canopy/awning' at the front which serves some nice + good Thai food, you can get a good sized meal and a bottle of water for less than 100 baht - I usually use this for a spot of lunch when the missus isn't home.

    Dave

PS: is the "Dao bar" also known as the "Swimming pool bar" ???? I've been to this place once with some friends, but I was very, very drunk.

  4. On Wednesday evening police from Pattaya Soi 9 station were called to the front of a restaurant on Third Road where a 33-year-old Thai lady showed them her vehicle and the front driver’s side window which thieves had apparently broken.

The lady explained that she had left her handbag on the front seat of the car while she went into the restaurant to have dinner with her family. When she returned to her car she saw the broken window and noted her handbag was missing. The lady told police the bag contained credit cards, an ATM card and a jackpot for the enterprising thieves in the shape of 50,000 baht in cash.

When police asked why she would leave a bag with so much money lying on the front seat of a car she explained that this is Thailand, not some foreign nation full of opportunistic thieves.

  5. My buddy is coming down to Pattaya this weekend and looking for a nice clean room in Soi Buakhao, Soi Lenkee....around there for about 600 - 700 Baht - night.

    Any recent recommendations please?

    Thanks.

LK Mansion (RHS of Buakhao about 50m in from Pattaya Klang end) is nice and clean etc. not sure about the 'out of season' rates but they would be worth a quick try.

    Edited for spelling

  6. Can anyone advise me on the implications of the smoking ban for Soi 6?

I'm not sure I like the idea of the smoking having to be done outdoors. There are always a lot of people around.

Cigarettes are fine, its the cigars that may cause blushes.

    :o

  7. The attendant would need to have had the nozzle in his hand (and not in the holder on the pump) as you drove up else the pump would rest to zero. Lesson learned.

:o unless they had managed to override the reset catch (which is probable and easily done with a piece of wire), either way I for one will be more alert whenever I fill up in future !!! Thanks to all who have pointed out this one in both this and other threads on this board. :D

  8. Say what you will but I have always had good service and decent cheap food at Dave's. Go occasionally for the greasy B65 breakfast and sometimes spot Dave with his bottle of beer at the bar. He's always been well behaved when I have been there and his staff are all very nice.

Same as that - no problems with either the host or his food. Every time I've been there I've never had a problem.

  9. Hi all,

    just a quick question:

We are selling up in the UK and moving over to Pattaya permanently. We've had our house on Nern Plub Waan for about 5 years and it's time to cut the ties to the UK and move over permanently.

We obviously have some household items (nothing too large, we're talking a couple of 'Tea-Chests' maximum) and I've been looking for ways to get this shipped over ready for when we arrive. We obviously don't want to have to pay import duty etc. and I am aware that we only get 1 sea + 1 air container excluded from this normally. I've found this website (https://www.transglobalexpress.co.uk/seafre...seafreight5.asp) which appears to have reasonable prices for what we are looking to ship (around £140.00 per tea chest), does anyone know of a better/cheaper whay of us taking these items with us, or would we be better off selling everything and buying new (supposing that we can replace everything of course).

    Thanks in advance,

    Dave

PS: the wife & son are both Thai nationals so we can claim the allowance for repatriation etc. for them.

My advice is unless it is personal stuff you cant replace - dont bother

Thanks MisterMan, thats just what I was thinking.

  11. I am confused .. wasn't the OP asking all his other questions regarding BKK?

I have a walking disability and have been told that getting around in BKK will be very difficult, do I started looking for an alternative place to retire.

Yes, I have a lot of questions as I want to make sure I don't move to a place where things will be difficult to obtain.

    CP

Welcome CP .. :o Like someone else said, most things can be delivered if you know where to look. "Door 2 Door" have a collection of > 20 restaurants menus from which you can choose a meal and they will deliver it (for minimum cost), for those that don't want to leave the Dark Side ...... other than that there are always restaurants within 5 or 10 minutes wallking distance, if this is too far for you then I'm sure you could find somewhere with easy wheelchair access.

    Again, welcome to the board!

  12. Do you need to have a members card when you shop at macro ? They always seem to hassle me but I don't understand, after some time they come back and seem to issue me with a temporary number.

In the UK you have to be a member as they advertise prices minus VAT. They add the VAT back on when you get to the till which always amazes me, whats the point of advertising without the VAT if you end up adding it back on ???

  13. When in town I usually do the "sunday lunch" at the New Inn (Soi Kao Talo), its not brilliant but edible.

Best sunday lunch is probably "The Sportsman" (Soi 13, unfortunately not the dark side) ....... The homemade Leek & Potato soup was out of this world !!

"The Queen Vic" on Soi 6 comes a close second, none of the above is based on cost, only taste etc.

  14. I'm so glad to know that a few of our neighbours are on here !! I thought I was the only one !!!

    Dave

Edit:- I live down next to the Market nearest the railway crossing, although I'm currently in the UK.
