  1. Also I just heard from a friend today who is doing the exact same trip, that he had some big problems at the border and got to the embassy too late today so will have to apply tomorrow (Friday) and extend his trip. He's quite annoyed. I'll find out what the issues were in due course I guess and post on here, if he doesn't anyway.

What kind of big problems did he have while entering...? Funny thing, which might be new, is all visas (cancellations too), are put into a computer system and they take your photo. Did takeforever at Hua Hin immigration as the nice lady had no clue how to operate a pc (I had to help her a little)

  2. คอมพิวเตอร์

Computer. I just don't understand why they use the when the loanword has a t in it. Why don't they use one of the Thai consonants that actually sounds like a t ?

It would make much more sense.

Generally ธ is reserved to express the "th" English phoneme because it is aspirated.

But there is also ท and there is also ถ making 't' sounds ..... so it isnt as if we should really have to use a sound the Thais teach as 'dt'.

We are also taught that ก makes a swallowed 'g' sound as in the word 'golf'. Since Thai also offers up ค , ข , ฅ and ฃ that ALL make 'k' sounds , I have to wonder as to why places like "Phuket" and "Kamala" all use the 'g' spelling when they clearly are pronounced with 'k' sounds by the Thai locals.

Look , Im not raging against the difficulties of learning a new language . We all 'ka-now' ( know , said as 'no') there are oddities in every languages spellings.

But when you cant order a simple Coca Cola without saying , "CAWWK!" to be understood , then the reform of at least the borrowed words spelling is a good idea in my opinion...

  3. algae, yes. sorry for my english.

question i want to ask is how can i get the support pillar

to look like in the picture?

engineer says he would use fine particle cement i believe and sandpaper

to get the same look as pictured

and use a layer of silicone to keep algae away.

    thanks

  4. hello everyone.

been cruising around on this forum, reading and trying to understand

more of how construction is done here in thailand and hoping you guys

maybe can help me out a bit.

what do i need to pay extra attention to now that they are building?

what are the typical "mistakes" made while they build ?

the engineer building my house says he will get the concrete outside to look exactly as the picture attached,

and keep all the green stuff you get in the concrete away by painting on a layer of silicone.

and he says he will be using fine particle concrete and sandpaper to get the smooth and same look.

is there any other/better way to do this?
