  1. I like Taksin. Bangkok really sucked before he launched the first sat. so Thai's could use mobile phones. It also sucked trying to get across town before he pushed through the sky train and subway. What a godsend those are for all of us. Yes, he's done alot for the people, and is just as/ no more corrupt that the rest of them, but at least he did some good things as well.

If there was a real election held today, he would win again. Period.

  2. Condolences to the families of the deceased.

I hope Thailand stays the way it is. I like Thailand the way it is and I live here because of the freedom and lack of bullshit bureaucracies.

Thailand leaves alot open for "common sense" issues to be determined by each individual. NO, I'm not saying that the people that died on that ferry had no common sense, so spare me the bs.

Of course every boat should have an EPERB on board, but if it doesn't, you can bring your own, they are not expensive, and you can also wear your life jacket the entire time you are on the boat and can even buy your own boat if you want to. Some may ask "If EPERBS are not expensive, then why don't all the boats have them?" And the answer is because tourists, and everyone else as well, want CHEAP tickets.

Also, as with many things in life, complacency is the downfall. You get what you pay for, prepare for and train for.

I get so tired of people trying to push their opinions and concepts on other people and other countries, so I will spare you mine.

I also really get tired of hearing tourists happily chatting about how CHEAP the ferries, busses etc. are and then when something happens on one of the THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of trips these boats and buses make, they make it sound like everything in Thailand is a catastrophe.

I won't go as far as saying "accept it or leave ", but I don't think this country should be like your or any other country, or it wouldn't be Thailand.

  3. Do All Ladies Ask For Money In Thailand?

Just take out the word Thailand, and insert the name of any country, and your answer is yes.

I would say however that Thai women are very clever at getting it sooner in the relationship through various means, than say, western women, who turn on the tear factory in court and take it all at the end of a relationship. :o

  4. You can go to Thaniya Plaza on the 2nd floor, just walk in from Sala Daeng Skytrain (BTS) Station and walk into the (Gun Shooting) shop on the left.

They can take you to several different ranges in Bkk. They offer Pistol, Rifle, Sub-machine gun, shotgun and skeet, etc., they also offer golf at the Air Force base etc. an excellent way to begin making "friends". It's quite pricey, but you only need to use their service once, and then you will know where to go by yourself. Transportation and drink are included.

    Prices for tours and ammo-., pistol - 50 rounds=3000b, rifle - 20 rounds=3,500, MG-30rounds=3000b and shotgun and skeet-25 rounds 3000 baht.

The golf at the Air force base is 1,950 including caddy and green fee....not bad. Don't forget to visit the clubhouse and mingle and make "friends".

In Thailand, ANYONE can wear a bullet proof vest anywhere, anytime. You will look like an idiot, but you can wear one none the less. And, if you feel the need to wear one and you aren't on a strike team, bodyguard of an official, Embassy duty, AND ON DUTY, then you obviousily don't have a clue what the <deleted>** you are doing.

  5. It's all about perception. What seems evil to you might seem needed by another. What you may call a terrorist, their army may call special forces, and visa versa. Since we are all different, some more than others, it will never end, because we all have different perceptions. Self righteous is as self righteous does.....

    Pretty simple really.......

  6. Hi Bowman, and congrats.

The Thai team has improved leaps and bounds over the last 10 years and as you said, archery clubs are growing faster than ever.

Anyone interested really has to have a Thai friend google it and write the details in English for you. Once at he range, everyone will help.

  7. I shot a hog on Koh Chang with a compound bow about 2 years ago with a local friend. They are legal because they are feral. A couple of the police from White Sand beach helped us BBQ half of it and we buried/baked in the sand the rest. It weighed about 30 kilos dressed out. Perfect roasting size.

I don't shoot or hunt anymore because I'm too busy, so would sell my bow if someone was interested. It's a LEFT HANDED compound bow imported from the states and I have about 24 carbon arrows with target points and broad heads. It's probably the fastest bow in Thailand, and I have the absolute best set up. A release, quiver, bow case, fiber optic sights, ect.ect.ect would sell it al for 40k.baht firm.

pm if you want a list of everything. I live in Bkk and have shot at the range here as well.

  8. Things go missing all the time. The scam is to keep it at he post office and hope no one comes in for it. You should definately go to your local post office and ask, and if you can't speak Thai, take someone who does.

I have had to do this twice, and both times got a notification that my package had arrived in my mailbox the day after I went to the post office and asked about my mail which was a month late. Sneaky bastards. And whatever you do, never ask someone to send cash to you in the mail for payment.

If I hadn't of gone, they would have disappeared.

I have had many items, some pretty expensive, arrive in Thailand without any problem at all. But they were mailed DHL, or FEDEX, or UPS, or USPS with tracking numbers. I think the major shippers like DHL or FEDEX probably control theft pretty well?

Exactly, and have recieved many, many on time as well, but 1 was FEDex, it contained 150.USD and had been tampered with and I opened it the rest of the way in front of the delivery guy and showed him it was tampered with before opening it and it was completely empty. Went through a big rodeo with all involved and was finally told it was a loss and fedex is not responsible for lost cash, and the Thai postal service knows this as well.

Another was a package that contained a pocketwatch, it sat at the post office for a month until I went with the tracking number and asked them about it. Also, the tracking usally stops when the package it out of customs.

  10. To rape a child and to sell heroin to john bonham (R.I.P) are not the same sport.

Anyway, I cannot feel "happy" for him to be in jail now. I think nobody of you really is. I'm just sad, cuz quite for sure he does not deserves 8 years of hel_l for 3 kgs of H.

    IKO

No, 8 years is just the beginning, he will serve that and then be transferred back to Aus. to finish serving the rest of his 40 years.

Also, the Kings pardon only invloves giving a small percentage on time reduction for drug offenses. So the King may say to knock 20 percent off of everyone's sentence, EXCEPT drug offenses, they only get 5 percent reductions, changes every year, and some years the drug offenders get NO reductions in time.

So you may get out a little sooner for stupid things like spraying paint on posters of the King, or stealing a car, or even visa violations, but for drugs, as the Brits say, your <deleted>.

  11. Poor bastard. If your gonna be dumb you gotta be tough. I really feel sorry for his daughter. Right now he's feeling pretty sorry for getting caught. I've also locked up a few of his kind. But in 20 years, when he's halfway through his sentence, he will truely be sorry for what he did.

Does Thailand and Aus. have the 8 year policy of completing his sentence back home?

  12. That's the whole problem, the people didn't get to vote for a new PM, he was just ushered in by the PAD. If there were a real vote, Taksin would be right back in, because he is still the best of the worst.

I guess the peaceful Thais in Esan will need to "re-educate" the Hi-So Thais in Bangkok about what is really important in life, which isn't always being greedy.

Also, the folks in red will only attack the actual people they are angry at, that's why they are not beating up motorcycle taxi drivers and police, but the actual MP's that are trying to take over the Gov't again by force instead of having a real election.

  13. I've been here for the last decade, and am still going through the levels of the Thai world. I have found that tourist "know it all's" have usually been in Thailand for from 2 weeks to 6 months or have repeatedly come here on vacation several times for a few weeks at a time. I have found that most expats that "go Thai", if it happens to you, usually happens around 1 to 2 years in country, when some of the language and a little understanding of the first level of the Thai world is being understood.

I guess I could say that it happened to me also, to some extent, as far as I learned from my gf at the time how to cook some different thai foods and how and where to shop cheaply and how to use the vans, rot tuu's, to get around Bangkok and Thailand, safer and cheaper than taxis, back before there was a skytrain and subway. Even wore and still wear a necklace with an amulet that she gave me, not because of wanting to be Thai, but because it was a gift and I like it.

Bangkok was a real pain to get around in, and smiling in smugness at expats wondering around hopelessly lost because I knew more than them, and then it kind of wore off around year 3 as I saw how stupid and silly some expats go, as someone said before "trying to be more thai than a thai". I never resorted to wearing lime green shower shoes and a sarong, smoking krung thip cigs ALL the time and cussing any and all western food.

I like steaks often and pizza once in a while. Granted, as soon as I knew how to order Thai food, I did eat Thai food almost ALL the time, but after a year or so, I MISSED MEXICAN FOOD AND PIZZA AND HAMBURGERS.

So usually if you see an expat eating at Burger King, they are usually either a tourist who cannot speak thai, or someone that has been here for awhile and has reverted to eating anything they feel like eating whether it be thai or a hamburger that day.

But I will say, I have a few Thai friends and can speak Thai pretty well, so I'm lucky in that regard, but as the old saying goes, "as soon as you think you know something, you find out that you don't know shit".

Also, I laugh at the guys who cuss Thai's all the time, who are laughing their way to the bank. Almost every day I hear people bitching about how some "stupid" thai overcharge, cheated, stole, ripped off, switched, didn't supply, mistook something, etc. etc. etc and how they paid anyway ha ha ha ha

And the guys who mistake Thai's not giving a shit what you think, for being rude or stupid. It's not being rude or stupid, they really don't give a rat's ass about you or what you think, the same as the people that cut in front of you in the line at 7-11 or anywhere.

All the stolen mail and packages from the post office, tenants paying more than 5 baht per unit for electric, etc etc.

goes on and on........ for the rest of us, just grin and know there are still a few people around are who are at least "halfway" normal...

  14. Also, try not to get "not having common sense mixed" up with "not give a shititis". Many Thais and others just don't give a shit if you are trying to drive down a road, get off the skytrain, subway, elevator or escalator. They are in their own little world.

The Brit's call it "not being arsed", us Seppos call it "don't give a shit".
