  1. The park adjacent to Emporium shopping center is called Suan Benjasiri. It is smaller than Lumpini park but it has a running/ jogging path around the perimeter as well as other exercise facilities ( basketball, volleyball, takraw courts, sit-up benches , pull up bars etc..)

It is well maintained and pleasant place to escape the concrete jungle for a while.

  2. ...I find that the ACH transfer to be a more economical way of transferring funds into my account in Thailand.

Isn't that only available with Bangkok Bank?

It's a good deal if the exchange rate given matches that of the other Thai banks.

I am not sure if Bangkok Bank is the only one or not, but that is the bank I use.

Having the branch in NYC helps to facilitate things. The TT rate is usually within a few satang of the other banks and is higher than for cash.

  3. I agree, wire transfer fees are a rip-off.

Unless you need the funds immediately, I find that the ACH transfer to be a more economical way of transferring funds into my account in Thailand. This usually takes from 1-3 days but has much lower fees involved . Once your account information, routing number, etc, has been been set up with your US financial instiution, transfers can be initiated on-line and you will get the TT rate in effect at the time the dolllars are received in Thailand.

  4. A friend of a friend is in Sweden. She is Thai and her mum lives in Nog Khai. Her mum is very sick and she is desperate to get home to see her. I have read that China Airlines have rerouted flight CI 066 which flies AMS-BKK-TPE through Chiang Mai instead. Does anyone know the quickest way to Nong Khai from Chiang Mai. Are there flights or a regular bus or mini bus services? TIA

If the flight from Chiang Mai to Udon is not available there is a flight to Vientianne , Laos. Located just across the river from Nong Khai. Then hire a taxi from the airport to the Friendship bridge, enter Thailand again at Nong Khai.

I flew to Udon from CM a couple of years ago. There is a mini van service to Nong Khai from the airport in Udon Thani.

  5. The obvious question is, how "regular" is "regular basis"?

Big 5 wire transfers are about $50 each time, Western Union has exorbitant fees plus dismal xchange rate. If you want to do this "regularly" (I'm thinking monthly for your GF) there is no cost-free way.

Next visit put money in a Thai bank and transfer via online to the GF bank account when necessary.

Online banking is not available to people who do not have a work permit and not residing in Thailand. I tried to apply for online account access last month and was told nope. :o

  6. I'm NOT referring to ACH transfers, and my non-Schwab brokerage account had no problem setting up my wire xfer online, without any paper work.

I've asking about fees charges by Correspondent Banks of Bangkok Bank (Thailand). I'm wondering which has the lowest fees. Bangkok Bank (NY, USA) charges between $5-$20 as an intermediary bank with Bangkok Bank (Thailand) both for ACH and WIRE xfers. The SWIFT code specifies several correspondence banks for Bangkok Bank (Thailand) along with Bangkok Bank's associated account number at each of the correspondence banks. My professional brokerage account allows me to specify which correspondence bank to use when wiring money to Bangkok Bank (Thailand).

I was asking which of the correspondence banks had the lowest fee.

I'm asking an advanced wiring money question, I'm familiar with the basic (FAQs). Thanks though for trying to help

I did a wire xfer last month through Bangkok Bank in NYC and the fee was only $5 , plus the amounts you mentioned on the receiving end.

  7. Hi i want to transfer about 5 million baht into Thailand from a bank account in the UK.

At the moment, in Thailand i only have a Kasikorn account.

What would be the best way to transfer the money without losing loads on exchange rates and charges?

    All advice welcome...

It is called an International Wire Transfer. You will get the best exchange rate with minimal fees. Be sure not to convert to Baht until your funds arrive in Thailand.

  8. Does anyone know where I can exchange Thai Baht for US dollars in Nong Khai or near the Friendship Bridge as I have heard that the Laos Immigration does not make change for US Dollars and I only have one hundred dollar US bills. If the entrance visa fee is only $30 I need some small bills

Are you in Nong Khai now ?

Why not get your C-note changed into smaller bills at a bank or a money changer ? You can purchase dollars with baht too.

Then you can pay for your visa stamp with green money.

  9. For those who do not have more than $100k to qualify for the Ameritrade account or not wanting to pay high service charges from commercial banks, I have been sending Wire transfers to my Bangkok Bank account for $15 through Pentagon Federal Credit Union.

The transfer is routed through the New York Branch of Bangkok Bank and usually arrives within 1-2 days.

Yes, Bangkok Bank does impose a service charge on the receiving end too.

It is also much safer and more convenient than travelling with a lot of cash or traveller's checks. My money is converted into baht at the higher TT rate and is readily available by use of an ATM card throughout Thailand or any Bangkok Bank Branch office.
