I've used Numbers - it's OK, a little bit nicer than Excel, and exports to Excel format. Which actually seems to work, but I haven't used it for anything fancy. Then again Excel is the only MS Office product that's actually pretty good IMO...

If you use Word and need to interact with others, there's no way around MS Word - Pages is just as good, but first of all you need to learn the differences to Word, and second import/export to and from Word is never 100%.

I found OpenOffice pretty nice on Windows, so I'd definitely check out NeoOffice. In fact I might do that myself. It will have the same import/export issues with the Word DOC format though. Import is OK, e.g. you'll be able to read it. But if you need to take somebody else's DOC document, edit it, and send it back, it's just not feasible with anything except the original MS Word.

If you go the MS Office route keep in mind that you will need the latest version, Office 08 for the Mac. The other versions are not native for OS X / Intel and so have a lot of performance issues on the latest machines. Like they'll use 10% CPU even if in the background and so on.

Is it safe to assume you have Vista display setting set to the native resolution of your monitor?

Yes i have tried different settings but currently 1440 X900.

I Have a new PC with a genuine copy of vista.The computer running vista is fully loaded 4GB Ram and good graphics board.Had Vista for 4 Months.Compared to XP that I have on another PC and using the same Acer AL1916w flat screen the display on vista is not as sharp as XP although i have tried many adjustments to brightnes,contrast screen size etc.with Vista.Vista has some good points bur i prefer XP

The question that i want to ask is it possible for me to remove the hard disk with Vista installed.Buy a new HD and install XP.THE HD with vista installed i would keep and possibly re insltal again later.

Without knocking vista too much i think vista is a good solid platform for a business application but for me xp is much better for home use.Another instance when downloadind music.after a while the programe shuts me out from opening other progs such as my photos.

I am retired and only a novice on PC matter so would greatly aperciate comments and advice on my suggestion re changing the HD with vista installed.I do spend a fair amount of time

Using my PC music downloads,working with photos news etc.

Hi all, I would like some opinoins,

Is 2 beers everyday a problem?

It used to 6 and then with the new year a resolution was made to stop but instead was able to control 2 a day over a period of a few hours. So is a 2 beer a day habit alcoholic? Is it a problem?

There are no consequences besides the nagging from the miss.

I have drunk daily.for the last fifty plus years.Over the last ten years I never drink alcohol before about five in the evening and tg to limit to 2 0r 3 small cans of Leo type beer with the occasional G&t ,Although the 2 small cans sometimes becomes 2 large bottles.More than that and I begin to feel that I have drunk too much.The other dayI i drank 2 large bottles and a large pitcher.Felt like shit the next day and have now decided not to drink any alcohol for 2 couple of months.Hope that I can last but no craving after one week.

My advise 2 drinks daily OK and probably good for the health.

Fact remains it's a bad idea to install Vista on old hardware. It's not going to work very well. Blaming doesn't make stuff work. Upgrade when you buy a new machine, or better yet wait for SP2.

Did a disk check and cleared off old stuff perhaps from when vista installed by the shop,or part old progs,that i have tried to install.Vista works much faster now.Can live with the scanner which is quite old,but the Cannon ip 300 is only 18months old and miss the photo print app.MS have their photo app but not as good or easy as cannon.

You need to update your software - IP3000 and PhotoPrint 3.6.1 will work fine on Vista as I mentioned earlier. Go to http://www.canon.com.sg/ and click on Support & Downloads - Inkjet Printers - select your printer and use that pop up page to download drivers (add on) for Vista and Software (Easy PhotoPrint 3.6.1 for Vista). Also the other software designed for Vista if you want them.

Every new Windows version makes some old stuff obsolete. Vista has compatibility mode for older programs. As for your driver issues, blame the hardware vendor. It's not like Vista appeared with no notice.

FS2004 and FSX work great in Vista.

Thanks have not loaded FS yet The Train sym loads but hangs when finished.Hard to close prog. Have to Use control alt del to close prog.

Thanks but new 2GB HD.2GB DDR2. NEW Asus board. AMD 2core 4000+.. Genuine Vista home premium with disk.After 2 weeks getting to like Vista better.will try to stick with it.Don't want to take backward step back to XP

I have recently installed windows vista home premium.It was a bad move.Had to install new drivers for both my printer and scanner.Both although quite new do not operate as before.The Cannon iP 3000 printer works but the easy photo print app. supplied with the printer is not supported by vista.Same with my Epsom scanner.Before I could control the scanner from the desktop.Now I have to press buttons on the scanner.

A lot of software that worked fine on windows XP is not supported by Vista.MY MS Train simulator does not work with vista.I have not tried to install Flight Sim because have also heard that it also is not supported by vista.

I wish that I had stayed with XP.I works much faster than Vista on most applications.To get vista to work the way it worked I should need to Buy a new printer,scanner and copies of games software that I used before.

My advice if you want a system for home use don't buy vista.I cannot understand why Microsoft bring out a new system that makes hadware and software previousley used on XP obsolete
