  1. It was 5 years ago, I remember going to get the affirmation of freedom to marry and going to the MFA but dont remember legalised copies of the passport. Ive read some posts suggesting its not required if divorce at same place as was married, it would be better for us to get divorced elsewhere as wife from Chiang Mai.
  2. I'm from Uk and wife Thai, we've decided to get divorced in Thailand. I understand we can do this easily at the Amphur but unsure about documents, I've read various posts about the legalised copy of the passport, having to obtain it from the embassy before going to the MFA. Could anyone provide any clarity about what we need to do? If we go to Bang Rak where we were married is this copy of the passport still required?

    Many thanks for any advice.
  3. Sorry if this has been asked before but my wife is aapplying for naturalisation in the UK and there is a requirement to evidence proof of free from time restrictions. She has ILR but lost the confirmation letter and has no ILR stamp in her passport. She only has the biometric residence permit stating that she has ILR, it is not listed but can the residence permit card be used?

    Thanks

  4. Just received paperwork / passport back and 2 letters, 1 stating that we'll receive a BRP in the next 10 working days and another ambiguous but standard letter.

At the top it in large bold writing it states:

"These notes are for information purposes only and do not convey the grant of ILR."

    But beneath that it states

"Your application for ILR has been approved........."

Is this part of the process and we need to wait for the BRP?? or despite the contradictory wording assume that it has been granted???

  5. Hi

We're in the process of completing an ILR visa application, believe we've got most things covered.

However, we will be relying on my partners income to meet financial criteria but with only 3 weeks left her employer has asked that she provide proof that she is still eligible to work while waiting for the immigration decision. Will there be any way that we could provide this evidence to the employer? Is it possible to check online or similar? I've looked for online payment / application but this is unavailable.

Also, what are the current waiting times for ILR application from the UK?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Jay

  6. Hi,

It's been nearly 2 years since my partner arrived in the UK and soon we'll have to apply for the ILR. My main concern is meeting the financial criteria, I'm studying an Msc and only doing temp work, at the moment I'm on a short term contract earning reasonable money at the moment however this is due to end soon and by the time of the application I shall only be working p/time with another employer on a temp basis, my partner is also working p/time but on a permanent contract.

I expect my income to only about £3-400 per month while hers is around £600, rent and council tax is only about £475. It's not an ideal situation but it's only temporary while I'm at uni and I'm due to finish in April 2012, based on the above information would we meet the financial criteria? Can her income be taken into consideration or do I need to quickly get a permanent job at Asda or similar to get through this?? BTW I'm not receiving any government funds re uni.

    Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Jay

  7. Hi,

It's been a difficult few weeks waiting for the decision on our visa application but we finally got it, we really didnt think we'd get it but not even an interview required. Initially I had planned to do it all myself as it appeared quite straight forward but chose to use an agent for peace of mind. I spoke to other agents but I chose TVE because of the office based in Thailand. During the interview with Paul (TVE), my wife disclosed her adverse travel history, deportation etc, and her case soon became very complicated and I would've certainly got her a 10 year ban if I had dealt with this myself.

We're both absolutely ecstatic at the moment, she'll be here in 2 weeks in time for her birthday, though not sure how she'll cope with snow in England :)

  8. That is correct, the MFA stopped the express service in October. I had mine done in November but as I was due to fly back to England 2 days later the supervisor very reluctantly agreed to do it for the following day and we were then married that day. I think the standard service is 2 working days.

The translation company we used offered their own express service, 15k baht and no need for MFA certification, I declined their offer.

  9. I've googled every which way i can for sex offenders moonie/y UK England etc..

Cannot find any story similar to the OP "friend"

Would like to see more evidence otherwise me tinks someone is telling little porkies...

OP... where can we view news clipping of your friends story..surely something that bizarre would appear in local or even national papers and make it on the internet.

Have to agree, previously worked in this field and surprised if somebody would be put on the sex offenders register for "mooning".

If on the register the person would need to be authorised to leave the country and nobody would authorise a registered sex offender to travel to Thailand.

Non compliance with the terms of the SO register is a criminal offence and I dont think whether this man could get away with this should be discussed on this forum. There are too many people convicted of offences that travel abroad only to repeat the same again.

  10. I would be surprised if "your friend" is on the SO Reg for mooning in public.

He needs to contact UK Probation officer / Police, they must be notified of his intention of travel. I believe police need to be notified if away from your permanent address for more than a few days or 5 in the whole year.

Conditions of the SOR are written on the paper he signed at the police station and must be taken seriously.

Your "friend" should be more concerned about the UK, there would be serious consequences for failure to comply.

  11. My thai girlfriend has been trying to get a police check done today without much luck, has anyone had one done recently and can advise on the process. Also exactly what does she need to take, ID card, passport etc etc?? and what information is contained within the police check.

  12. shall last until 31/3/09,

You will find Jay they don't allow the Tardis into the building any more, :) do you mean 31/03/2010?

Haha, well spotted, 31/3/10 it is. There shouldnt be any problem finding a different job in that time or work may even continue past that date, so financially I dont view it as a problem, just keen to start the application process once the contract is signed if this is ok.

  13. Quick question, I'd been planning to apply for a fiancee visa but lost my job a few weeks ago. I'm now working on a relief / temp basis and expecting to be offered a short term contract in the next couple of weeks which shall last until 31/3/09, the income during this period shall surpass minimum requirements, would this be sufficient for the application??

    Thanks, Jason

  14. Thanks Oldgit. Regarding sponsorship I dont foresee too much of a problem, I'm 32 (she's 24) just finished uni but have worked for the probation service a few years, accomodation is ok, and consistently kept reasonable money in the bank.

Her employment status is the biggest problem, no job / land or property in her name, I understand the ECO concerns re overstay but we really wouldnt risk doing anything which would jeopardise future visas. Is it worth applying in the present situation or would it be an immediate refusal??

  15. Hi,

I would like to apply for a 1 month visit visa for my thai g/f, we've know each other for nearly 2 years and can provide evidence of the past 18months, phone records, numerous trips to Thailand (7* 3-4 week holidays), some photos etc etc. I live in England but back in Chiang Mai next week, any suggestions of things we need to do while I'm in Thailand, any paperwork etc, can the application be completed by myself from England??

Not expecting visa to be easy, she doesnt have a job, reason to return could be a problem, is it worth using an agent?? any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jay

  16. It looks nice, clean / tidy but can be noisy, it is next to a nightclub and if you're staying in the wrong side of the hotel music / trouble outiside can be quite loud. Some old farang come back drunk with bargirls and have regular arguments / shouting on the landings which echos throughout the building, wheras alot places would simply chuck them out this seem to be tolerated.

  17. The BBC iPlayer is now available as a cross-platform stand-alone application:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/labs

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7787335.stm

Of course, you could already do all of that with an existing application, which had the added benefit of removing the DRM restriction for downloading, as well as allowing the use of proxy servers for watching from outside the UK:

    http://www.lawrencedudley.co.uk/iplayer/

    http://samair.ru/proxy/

    ... personally, I use a command line tool (old-fashion geek I suppose):
