  1. My wife applied on the 29th of July and was given the hard sell tactic of "it will take 10 - 12 weeks unless you use the priority service".  She resisted the hard sell and received her visa on the 25th of August. We did use the charged email service and we emailed daily after fifteen working days had passed and received generic replies. Overall we are obviously very happy to have received the visa but we do feel a little aggrieved with having a hard sell tactic which goes against the official notice of waiting times being 7 weeks with an effort made to go back to fifteen working days.

Best of luck to all of those waiting and applying.

  2. My wife just received her visit visa. We applied on the 29th of July and received an update email to say that it had arrived and would be couriered. Although very glad to have received it so quickly (20 working days in total) I still feel a little aggrieved by the strong arm tactic by those in the VFS in regards to telling everyone it would take 9 to 11 weeks to receive unless we changed our application to a priority visa. This was my wife's 9th application so I am not sure if that sped things up a little but it seems that they are clearly trying to get the new applications done in a timely manner to help with appearances.

Best of luck to anyone applying or waiting to hear back.

  3. I j spoke with the royal Thai consulate in Cardiff two days ago about a one year/ 15 month multiple entry non O based on marriage to a Thai national and was told that up to now they are are still issuing them in Cardiff and have not been required to forward anything to the embassy in London. He did of course say that this could change at any time but he assured me that up to and including now they are still being issued there without providing financials and he was aware of Hull being asked to forward things to the embassy in London.

  4. Having just come to the end of the last set of books I bought back from the UK I am now wanting to ship in my collection from the UK. I have just over 500 books mostly soft back books. I have heard (but unable to confirm) that you are allowed to bring in second hand books tax free. Was wondering if anyone with past experience shipping in books has any advice on the easiest way to do this. I am looking to bring these books in for as little as possible so not too bothered on how long it will take. Thanks in advance for any help or advice

  5. The upgrade was made available on the 29th of October I got CTH installed on the 1st of November and both the installers and CTH themselves did not tell me to upgrade I stumbled across it. The upgrade is under the information bar its the last option I think its under OTA upgrade. Liking the Nat Geo Music channel at the moment its a nice change from listening to constant pop and K pop garbage.

  6. Ned don't know if you have upgraded your set top box. This was the reason I was not getting the missing 13 HD Channels Gadget being one of them. I phoned the call center for help and they fobbed me off telling me that all CTH users were in the same boat which of course wasn't the case. It wasn't until I stumbled across the update option that the missing channels appeared pretty embarrassing that the guys that installed it and the call center couldn't have done or told me how to do this. Apart from the initial hiccup I have to say that I am pleasantly enjoying CTH especially the football channels. Hopefully the PLTV/ Stadium 7 will be added soon.

  7. As a regular visitor to the Samprhan Elephant and Crocodile Zoo I feel that I do have to wade in here and poke a few holes in the OP's story. The actual foreign price is a whopping 600 baht which is outrageous for what it is. I think that the OP totally misunderstand the situation. As said I regularly visit as I have 2 young children and I have never been charged or asked to pay the foreign price once I have produced my Thai driving licence. There is of course a price difference between an adult ticket and a child ticket which was the extra fifty baht the OP was asked to pay. So whilst not defending dual pricing as it is unfair I did feel the need to say that the Samphran Elephant zoo does accept a Thai driving licence . Hate to burst the OP's moral stance but 50 baht really?

  8. I just had CTH installed on Friday and am so far quite pleased with the EPL coverage. I am somewhat confused with the amount of HD channels that are included in the package though. On the CTH website they claim there are 31 channels however I seem to have only 18 and channel Gadget is not a channel I seem to have. I called the call center and was told that this was a problem that all CTH users were having and they were currently trying to fix it. Was just wondering if this is in fact the case as I find it strange how they continue to post football games on their facebook page with Gadget being one of the channels games are being shown on. I would be grateful for any feedback on this. Thanks to everyone that has posted on this thread it isa very informative thread

  9. Thanks to all of you that have commented and offered your advice. I am currently working in Thailand and do meet the 18,600 pound salary requirement so hopefully that means I wont have to leave my family here while I go back to start work. Again some of these visa rules are pretty confusing and hopefully they will become clearer soon! Again thanks you all for helping and giving your advice it is very much appreciated.

  10. Hi all. First off been reading these forums for years and really appreciate all the helpful people giving their advice and comments.

Decided to start a thread as like most forever confused trying to keep up with all the changes going on with spouse settlement ilr visas for moving back to the UK.

Mostly confused with the. financial requirements. Little background on me. I have been here pushing on ten years and happily married for over 6 years and as our two children are reaching school age we think its time to move back. As we have been married and living outside of the UK for over 4 years does this still count towards shortening the overall visa steps or is this too now changed?

I am in a fortunute situation as back in the uk have a family business so am able to go back and work straight away and meet the 25,200 pounds or whatever amount. My question is would I actually need to go home and start work before my family could join me as this would be the worst possible solution or would just a contract stating immediate start date and salary to meet requirements be enough? Also very confused as to The English a1 requirements, we plan to leave April of 2014 so am I right in thinking that the A1 will no longer be valid? If so what are the new requirements?

Also I understand the new rules to mean that on the uk side progressing one level on an ESOL course will no longer be viable and now must be the life in the UK test?

Again thanks to all that have and continue to help and guide people on these forums. Thanks a lot.

  11. Checked on flights to the UK, very expensive. I booked a direct flight to London with EVA in April with saveflights for 31,000 on Cheaptickets it was 94,500 for the same flight and dates. I have used saveflights for the last five years and have always gotten great deals and a great service from them.
