  1. I would suggest the lady take herself and her baby to the Thai Embassy along with the passports and plane tickets if she has them. If there are no problems found for her to leave the country by the Embassy with her baby , I would get on the next plane out , pretty dam_n quick. You of course being the new friend - could go with her.

:) Ha ha ha. I’m a new friend? I think I will remain in Turkey for my hassle free life and keep LOS for the xmas holiday. As attractive the chance of calamity is I think I will pass!

Humour aside, the father has the baby and I doubt that he will happily hand it over. Would the police have to intervene – obviously only if she can claim sole custody?

  2. The baby was born in Thailand and entered Sweden with a Thai passport. The grandmother of the baby registered the birth and put the name of the father as the Swedish chap. They have never married.

I think that the girl and the guy are another case of incompatibility regardless of the cultural issues involved. Disappointingly again the biggest loser will be the the child. Perhaps the guy had seen a sexy young lady and she had seen security and a better life; who knows? The issue is that she is in no way able to defend herself in this kind of situation and I think that she needs some help to make things fair and even.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

  3. Hi guys and gals,

I have a friend that has managed to get into a mess whilst away in Sweden and need some information. She is a 22 year old Thai. She is not married. She has a 9 month old baby with a man from Sweden. They are no longer together.

They felt that it would be better if the baby is to be brought up in Sweden by the father as the girl could not offer the same level of support and upbringing in Thailand. So they have gone back to Sweden together with the girl on a Schengen Visa of 3 months. She had planned on returning to Thailand. The Father has sponsored her for the visa saying that he will support her and provide flights and a place to stay etc. (she is staying with a friend of his – not him)

They have now fallen out to the point that they cannot talk like grownups. She now wants to take her baby back to Thailand with her. I would like any information on her rights to do so. The baby has a Swedish passport. Is there any way she can extend her visa or stay in Sweden?

She has also signed something. This was done at an office, I assume a solicitors. This was signed by both of them and a third person. What would this likely to be? She thinks it may be custody related but it was in Swedish which she does not speak!

Your help is greatly appreciated and I thank you for your time

    Benson

  4. I’m trying to find a sensible priced service for sending a kite board and equipment back to the UK.

    Size 145cm x 41cm x 25cm. Weight 16kgs.

I have looked through the forum to find people mentioning smaller packages, 2-3 kg etc but nothing this size. I have tried the post office but would like to get another price if pos. Any tips or suggestions gratefully received.

    Many Thanks!

  5. Oh, and if you do the border run you will be immediately labelled an illegal worker, drug runner, sex tourist or other such "low life" by the ThaiVisa puritans who are so squeaky clean they make an operating theatre look like a garbage tip. But don't worry about it, to paraphrase an F1 driver you meet a better class of people on border runs. :D

    :o

Tick all of the above! Long as no one tells the girlfriend about it!

Thanks for the replies, going with the 15 days boarder run this time and tourist visa upon my return next time.

  6. I'm British, 29 and unmarried. I have been entering Thailand with 30 day visa on arrival stamp. I have the following dates of entry.

In the last 90 days from 3/12/08 (Date of this entry) (Or will this be from the date I try to get a new visa?)

    6 month previous = 3/6/08

    3/6/08 to 8/6/08 = 6 days

    12/9/08 to 10/10/08 = 29 days

    [Visa run to Cambodia]

    10/10/08 – 30/10/08 = 20 days

    Total 55 days

Using the 90 day system I have 35 days remaining to use.

However, I was given a new 'visa on entry' stamp on the 3rd December with the exit date of 2nd January.

I hope to leave Thailand 11th Jan. So I am short either way – 7 with counting days or 9 with 'visa on entry' stamp(?). I think my options are:

    A) Any kind of extension?

:o Go and get a tourist visa outside of Thailand – Laos?

    C) 15 day boarder run as I've read the 90 day system no longer is active (?? This is the confusion??)

    D) Go for a visa run and hope they are not in the counting mood! :D

I had previously tried to get a Tourist visa in London. Having tried to phone them and get details before hand I was unable to get through. So I called the Birmingham counterpart instead – They told me that they could issue the visa on the same day – I stupidly assumed that the London office would do the same. Nope! 2 day turn around so no tourist visa. Oops… then time to get on the plane!

    Thank you for ay help

    Ben

  7. So...

Based on an entry date of 2nd December 2008 the ‘rolling’ 6 months starts on 2 June 2008

That is 6 days from then (2nd june to the 8th)

43 days from the last trip. (12th September – 30th Oct)

Total of 49 days in the 6 month period.

Therefore I have 41 days outstanding to use on an 'Visa Exempt Entry Stamp'

I would, however, have to complete a visa run at 30 days.

But… Where is it, if possible, to get a visa in London?

    Thanks

  8. To be accurate, and please correct me if I am making an incorrect assumption, but your previous entries were not Visa On Arrival, but rather on Visa Exempt Entry Stamps.

Sorry that is correct, they were 'Visa Exempt Entry Stamps' granted for 30 days entry. The last time I had to do a visa run hence the two 10th Oct dates.

From what I have found, to avoid any confusion or need for visa runs a tourist visa will be the best way to go. Thank you again for all the replys

  9. Thanks.

I thought that may be the case. Unfortunately Hull is the opposite end of the country for me! I am also, self inflicted, pushed for time and don’t think I can wait for the post. Is it easy to turn up with the required application form and photos and be dealt with the same morning. (Why are these places only open for 3 hours a morning!?)

    Again thanks for the information

    Ben

  10. Hi,

I am a British 28 year old. I have been to Thailand several times this year and think I cannot turn up using the visa on arival system again. I am now looking to see what and where I can obtain a visa. Am I right in thinking I need to apply in person for a tourist visa, costing around £25, in Birmingham, London or Hull?

    Dates in passport as follows:

    25th Dec 07 - 14 Jan 08

    22 May 08 - 8 June 08

    12 Sept 08 - 10 Oct 08

    10 Oct 08 - 30 Oct 08

I will be returning, maybe!??, on Tuesday 2nd December. I wish to stay for just under 6 weeks.

    Thanks for any help

    Ben

  11. Thanks for all the replies. I have looked at the suggested links and found that they refer to bank holidays or single days off. I`m trying to understand how a school can decide to change a whole month, 8 weeks before taking the holiday. Should I just revert to the "it`s Thailand" attitude!?

    Thanks again

  12. Hi All,

My girlfriend and I were planning a holiday over christmas later this year but the school has just changed / confirmed the dates. She have been told they are to have October off and not December like the previous year. Is this normally the case to change from year to year? It seems a little short notice for both students and teachers.

    Thanks,

    Benjamin

  13. I have been a semi-regular visitor to LOS and wish to know how I can spend a longer time there. I am a British passport holder, under 30. Lovely Thai girlfriend but not married.

My last visit was from the 22nd of May to the 8th of June, on a turn up and get the stamp in my passport visa. Sorry I have no idea of the related type, B, O, XYZ! I wish to return in September for three or four weeks and again in December for 3 months. Now because there will not be a large gap between all of these dates when do I start and stop counting days?

    Please help!

    :o

    Benjamin
