  1. Royar, you are obviously not only stupid but your grammar needs working on also.

Do I think that Tony Blair cares about Thai visas? Probably not. Do I think that if mine was the only letter he received, that he would do anything about it? Probably not, also. But I am sure there will be thousands of similar complaints finding their ways to him, Royar. Also, yes I do think he gives a ###### about his citizens being broken up from their families by stupid, arrogant and unfair rules.

Mark my words, repurcussions WILL come about because of Thailand's new visa rules.

By the way, if you want to reply to this then make sure that your grammar is correct next time. How old are you, eight years old?

  2. I've said it before and I'll say it again. These new laws are just crazy. A lot of people might well argue that 'this is their country and they can do what they like', but if a Thai man who makes a considerably smaller income per month than a foreigner can support himself and his family, then why do the laws have to be different?

I too will be writing to Tony Blair and the UN Human Rights Commision. If enough of us join hands over this then hopefully it can be resolved.

  3. I'm not a freeloader, as it happens I am the breadwinner. Because I do not have any funds in a THAI bank account, does this automatically mean that I have no funds AT ALL, Dr. Patpong?

I have an income from the UK but I do not have a work permit here and without one A FARANG CANNOT OPEN A BANK ACCOUNT!!!!! My wife has an income which she can prove. However, my income is a lot larger than hers.

Read the posts clearly next time before making stupid comments. For being a Doctor, I would have though that you would have been more intelligent!

  4. Actually, I meant to say that WE (my wife and baby included) will go back to England if I cannot continue to stay here.

Who the ###### does Thailand think it is? The UK? USA? Japan? Thailand has to remember (in a personification sense) that it is still a poor country and it needs us more than it arrogantly thinks it does!

  5. Elvis, believe me that the UK sounds exactly like Belgium! The British government doesn't want to be seen as being 'racist' either and so it continues to open its doors to these people who have no intention of working and do nothing but complain. Recently, the government cut down on the amount of money it was giving to these 'asylum seekers' and started to give them food coupons instead. So what did these poor immigrants do afterwards? Complain, (because they could no longer buy their alcohol and cigarettes).

The Captive, you have my honest sympathy because I am in exactly the same situation as you. I have a wife and baby here and it pisses me off also that the average Thai doesn't make nearly enough that we are expected to make, and simply because we are foreigners we must make more than them. I have never heard of this silly law anywhere else other than Thailand. After July, I believe (and hope) that Thailand will have lots of international criticism after the amount of families that are broken up by their stupid laws.

And I also side with you on unbiasbob (and lots of other members of this site) sending in replies for the sake of it. It really is pathetic the amount of farangs who get a kick out of belittling people who send in fair comments. I actually have a suggestion to make to the webmaster, or whoever is in control of this site. Usually on chat channels and forums on the Net, a member can opt to ignore, or not receive any replies to posts from someone who he or she selects. Why don't we implement something on this site, to basically filter out all off the crap that comes through?

  6. Yes, it is all very confusing.

I will be going to Penang in June and applying for a non-immigrant 'O' visa (one year, multiple entry) with my marriage certificate, birth certificate of my child born here to my Thai wife also.

However, I have ZERO funds in a Thai bank account. My missus does work and can give evidence of the salary she makes. I hope this will be enough, if not then I'm going back to England and they can shove their new laws right up their arse for all I care.

  7. Which of the following constitutes being unfaithful?

    1. Having sex with another woman?

    2. Kissing, or snogging another woman?

    3. Chatting a woman up?

    4. Smiling seductively at a beautiful woman who passes you by on the street?

    5. Masturbating on the strength of a woman who you fancy?

    6. Thinking dirty thoughts about a woman who you would love to screw?

If any, or all of these count then I am definietly unfaithful. Although I wont say which one of the above that I do the most.

  8. There are many things in life that EVERYBODY does not want to do, but HAS to do. Kow jai mai khrap?

Me, personally I do not like teaching but I can do it and do it well. I have over five years' experience now and the majority of my past students who could not speak very good English when I started out with them, are now a million times better...because of me! I am not one of those teachers who spends the entire lesson writing on the blackboard and does no speaking, other than 'hello' and 'goodbye'. I am a teacher who speaks to my students, asks them questions, gets them to ask me questions and I teach in a manner that is enjoyable for the students and also beneficial.

I have not posted this topic to blow my own trumpet, but more to let you know that although while teachers with degrees can and do (well, sometimes and sometimes not) make great instructors, but people without a degree, such as myself can be perfectionists as well.

I had a chance to go to University, but I turned it down for the opportunity to travel. And now here I am, a man who ISN'T a sex tourist and has NEVER been one but who simply likes to travel the world.

Adjan jb, I believe it was you who cast the first stone, not myself. People who are educated, such as apparantly yourself, do not and should know better than to, ridicule, make assumptions and abuse people who are asking an intelligent question.

As for ASIC, by myself in your books being a criminal, are you telling me that you have never broken a law in your life? Never paid a bribe to a bent copper? Never been with a prostitute? All of these things are illegal and so would constitute a CRIMINAL act.

You know I'm right, and you know what I am saying makes sense.

  9. Why else would I have to teach here? To earn a crust of course! Actually, to be honest I don't WANT to teach but it's the easiest thing for me to do, which incidentally I have previously done in Malaysia and Indonesia for a total of five years. What about you? Are you a backpacker, turned teacher who, because he has taught here for a while and has a real degree then he looks down on other people wanting to do the same job as him?

You are pathetic, and people like you should not be cluttering up this site with their bullshit!

  10. It depends what you're after - friendship, a quick screw, or both?

If you want to get laid by a Farang girl, Sukhumvit Soi 3 has its' fair share of Russian prostitutes. They cost about the same as the Thai ones do.

Am I bad or what? Come on, this is the twenty-first century!

  11. I am sure that people who have lived or are living in Thailand will know, it is next to impossible to get a work permit without having a degree first. I am not complaining about this, but have a little question.

Over the past few years, people have obtained their 'degrees' from Khao San Road, myself also very recently. I am looking to apply for a new job as an English teacher. With things getting a lot stricter here right now, what choice would you say is the best one?

I could either work here illegally, OR go through the Ministry of Education and Labour with my new 'degree'.

I would greatly appreciate any advice that anyone might care to give. Incidentally, anyone who gets off on sending in snide remarks and replies to peoples' questions that they post, such as this one, I would appreciate it if you just didn't reply at all. SunbeltAsia is a classic example.

    Thank you,

    Rob

  12. Hi there,

A day or two before your visa expires, go to the Immigration office and they'll give you a one month extension.

After this one month is over, got to Penang, Malaysia and they'll give you a double entry tourist visa which again, can be extended both times giving you a total of six months.

    Hope this helps,

    Rob

  13. It actually makes me sick to think how difficult it is for Thai women to get into the UK. When you think of the hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers who get in and are granted residency in the UK every year it is appaling.

I have taken my missus to England twice on a tourist visa and both times she was interviewed by some snotty English bitch in the embassy who asked her questions which hinted that she might be, or once was, a prostitute. She was actually turned down on one occasion.

Well, I hope the situation improves but can't see it doing so in the near future.

Anyway, after she has a passport she will need to apply at the British Embassy. She has to fill out a form and pay a fee which is quite costly, I believe, for a settlement visa. She can obtain the appropriate forms from the embassy or you can get them yourself from www.fco.gov.uk

Fill them in for her and get her to sign them. If you have a house and can prove that, it will go in her favour. If not and you're living with your parents, then get them to write a letter to include in the application, that says she will be staying with them and you.

    Hope this helps,

    Rob

  14. Hello Confused,

My Thai wife's sister had a similar problem to yours a couple of years ago.

She has a teenaged son and daughter who had no documents stating that they were Thai. Apparantly she either forgot or didn't bother to get them when they were babies.

What she did do though, was take a DNA test with the kids at the hospital. I am not one hundred percent sure of the procedure that she went through afterwards, but I reckon that she showed the DNA test to the amphur office and eventually they were given their Thai citizenships.

I think that the Thai government is now giving DNA tests to people from hilltribes who are claiming Thai nationality as well. I'm not sure if this will help you, but best of luck anyway.

  15. Hi Mr. Koh Falang,

Well, I have lived (but not worked) in Laos. I have lived in Malaysia and also Indonesia. As far as I know, all of these are easy (well, a lot easier than Thailand) to live and work in.

It depends what job you want but English teaching is always easy to find.

Yes, unfortunately people are starting to ask these questions that you are asking now. If it wasn't for my wife and kid I would have buggered off somewhere else a long time ago.

    Cheers,

    Rob

  16. Hi again,

Had a wonderful night out on the piss in Vientiane last night. The bars here close at midnight latest, so at half time of the England vs Ireland rugby match, I got kicked out! Oh well, at least that meant that I didn't have to watch them lose!

I didn't know that the Thai Embassy here has moved from its old location. Will be getting a tuk-tuk there tomorrow morning, bright and early. Already have the forms filled in so hopefully I'll be in and out of there asap (I hate Thai embassies).

Well, wish me luck folks. It's now almost eleven thirty in the morning, so it is high time for some more Beerlao.

By the way, Lao now has twenty thousand kip notes, which is helpful. The last time that I came here a couple of years ago I needed a wheelbarrow to carry my money around in after changing my baht. But now the cash wads are a lot smaller (just thought I'd let you know that!).

    Cheers,

    Rob
