  1. This will disappear into the long grass in the same way that taxing foreigners on their overseas income has been quietly dropped. There is no possible scenario where someone having his lunch at 14.05 with a drop beer in his glass will be fined 10,000 baht.
  2. When I first came here in 1992 there would be 4 girls on a motorbike.
  3. I'm fine Buddha looks after me. It'll never change.
  4. The thing that isn't mentioned, and is the most important for prospective retirees, is the threat to tax income.
  5. Please note that this only applies to foreign earnings brought into Thailand. It doesn't include capital transfers. So if you need money here sell some investments and bring in the proceeds. Buy back the investments with your earnings.
  6. Medical certificate for sale 500 baht, one off payment for life. Time to think again. Either it's legal or it isn't.
  7. Try cleaning up the air. That does far more damage to tourism than the value of the baht. The air is filthy and there are loads of countries where the air is clean.
  8. I'll be living off my mother's inheritance, meagre though it was, until I die. How can they possibly identify which money brought in is taxable. Time another spliff and a Leo.
  9. She hasn't got a prayer, and her lawyers should have told her. If the Will is properly drawn up and witnessed it will stand.
  10. I went to Immigration the other day and they asked why I only kept 400,000 in my account. I told them that we don't want to bring in more money than we need because they are going to tax us. The girl looked at ,e with eyebrows raised and said, "How?" She had no clue. If it ever did happen that Immigration needed to sign off a tax return or similar, you can bet your life that the only thing that would change would be the "Agent's Fee".
  11. I think it's best summed up as the Thais didn't vote correctly last time so they will shortly have to try again, only this time the number of parties will be restricted.
  12. Too many of these articles promoted by Tax "Experts". The emphasis is on earned income. So there are many loopholes, like inheritance, selling of a property, transfer money to wife etc. Most pensions are taxed in home country so only the difference if any to pay. I think the struggle to collect the tax will outweigh the gains. We'll see, but remember it's income, not capital.
  13. Why on earth do they want to repatriate the body. One family member fly out to attend the cremation, then fly back with the ashes. You're supposed to get permission but if you put them in a wooden box in your luggage no-one will care. Have a big memorial service back home. RIP
  14. There must be more to this story. I suspect he's afraid of people on the outside. At least he thinks he's safe in custody.
  15. It's simple, take their phones off them for their shift.
  16. When you have to buy your job you start in debt.
  17. The first challenge from expats would be having to show 800,000 baht in the bank for the retirement extension and then being told it's subject to 20% tax. Send a load of money here before 31 December and then sit back with the popcorn.
  18. For 17 billion baht, roughly $485 million, you could buy 50,000 tractors equipped with ploughs. Enough for 8 tractors in every tambon. Rent them to the farmers and there would be no need for crop burning. I know where I would invest the money.
  19. So pay for your big purchases like school fees by direct transfer. Pay by credit card wherever you can, like Revolut. Send your day to day living expenses to the gf. It won't be possible for Thailand to demand 800k in the bank and then take 20%. There'll be a lot more discussion before any of this actually happens.
  20. It would be perverse to insist that we show 800,000 baht in our accounts for our retirement visas and then impose 20% tax.
  21. The 29% were those who voted for the status quo and the 49% are those that will take to the streets if they don't get the government they voted for. The remaining 20% will give the rioters food and shelter.
