  1. Au contraire, mon frere! American sign language is completely practical here in Thailand, as it is the basis of modern Thai sign language. The missionaries did a very good job of teaching it to the deaf some 150 - 100 years ago. His brother should have an excellent time with no problems here in Thailand. The local lingo is very easy to pick up on and he'll meet some friendly girls while he's at it. As to your comment whether they're not compatible - wrong - sign language is much more intuitive than our spoken languages and I've encountered deaf people in 20 some countries around the world with only minor difficulties in communication. Ironically the Europeans are the toughest to understand from the get go. To the OP - check the links that the other posters were kind to provide and that will be a good start. Also to the poster about the vendors on Sukhumvit - correct! - that is a great place to connect - and - most of them do understand American and British sign languages. Have fun!

"Signing" - just like spoken language - is not universal.

Your brother may be fluent in UK or USA Signing but it will be totally useless in Thailand so there is really little point in looking for local Associations or Clubs.

  2. Hey Greasergirl,

Go to Min Buri on Nimidmai Road behind the garden restaurant. There is an 800m runway with ultralights, hangars and the local RC club there. The owner and the locals are all very friendly and it's a nice location. Have fun!

  3. Take the bus from Mo Chit to Trat, then a mini-bus to Hat Lek to cross the border into Cham Yeam. Take a taxi to Koh Kong, hang around a while, and then take the boat for $25 to Sihanoukville. I've been this way many times, and I recommend taking the latest bus to Trat from Mo Chit. You'll get to the border at 6 a.m. or so, and must be at the pier in Koh Kong by 8 a.m. when the boat leaves. Any later, then take the mini van or spend a day in Koh Kong. Otto's is a great place to stay with good food. Also, if you'd like to ease the pain at the border, get your visa for $25 at the Cambodian embassy in Bangkok. It costs US$20, and take cash with you. If you pay in baht, you pay more. If you must get the visa into Cambodia at the border, insist on $20. The immigration officials will hem and haw, but that's what it costs so don't back down. Pick a taxi driver immediately when crossing the border, and he'll stick with you to keep the others away. They're very irritating if you choose to negotiate with many. Just pick someone who looks friendly/trustworthy. The mini vans from Koh Kong to Sihanoukville used to be a great adventure for $20 involving muddy roads and 4 ferry crossings over rivers, but I'm pretty sure the bridges over them are complete, so that's always an option if you want to see beautiful jungle. The boat trip is also an scenic trip.

  4. I have never laughed this much because of a thread. Someone please spit out the truth - Is this for fuc_king real, or is this just an English tabloid reporting out of their asses? If it's false - Whoever the writer is who came up with this should be awarded! If it's true - I just can't wait to see the fan's reactions there - and what a treat that'll be! Thai and international media? - whoa.
