  1. Have had bad experiences well over 1,000 times with Suckon Cable over last 6 years...

We had a True Vision dish installed at our humble home and NEVER lost audio or visual in 6 monts of service until my ditzy little lady stopped paying the bill and went out and bought an iPad with the money i give her to pay ALL of are hard bills including plenty of food...I wonder where she is now BUTT frankly I don't care cheesy.gifgiggle.gifwub.pngclap2.gifwhistling.gifthumbsup.gif

  2. MaiThai your symtoms sounds a bit like denge fever?

I'm not surprised so many people are so ignorant on this subject thumbsup.gif

I used to get a "flu" shot EVERY year for 10 years in my birth country BEFORE the sick season hit practically like clockwork, a vaccine normally came out in October and I NEVER got horribly sick from any flu virus after getting one...

Been in Thailand for many years now and have NEVER seen offer of a flu shot ANYWHERE ANYTIME and been horribly sick three different times (and avoided going anywhere so not to make anyone else feel like me)

I did have to drag myself down to the closest pharmacy for some antibiotics each time which knocked "the bug" down within a couple days...

This last (sick.gif recent sick.gif) episode I seriously thought I was going to die and still don't have any idea where I caught the bug, could have been any handrail, doorknob, (beer condoms which I ALWAYS avoid now) or could have been money handed back to me after shopping...

Been ripped-off twice now by clinics misdiagnosing a problem then selling me drugs that were completely ineffective annoyed.gif, hospitals are much better and relatively inexpensive in my experience

I suspect I will likely meet my demise by getting hit by a WORTHLESS and DANGEROUS oversised tour bus or some idiot on a Harley-Davidson/pissant scooter driver racing in and out out of traffic before I die of any form of bird flu, at least you can hear the Harley-Davidsons coming from two miles away ermm.gif

It only takes one moron carrying a flu bug to get 100 people or more sick

    RANT over... goof.gifdrunk.gif

I guess it might have been DF, I did notice an unusual bite mark on my left calf just before I was feeling very ill...everything AOK now.

Next time, no matter how crappy I feel, I'm heading to the pharmacy for some antibiotics ...

My only real fear is they won't do the job anymore some day down the road annoyed.gifsick.gif

  3. I used own a Comet (as in a RARE Ford Comet automobile) that i couldn't outrun or out drive a turtle with it tongue.png

Why is Bangkok so special for this comet sighting? Why not Chaing Mai, Pattaya, Ubon or Rayong etc.??? blink.png

Still trying find name/picture of a famous high sightseeing point in northwest Thailand with a beautiful Temple/Museum just down the curvy tight road on same-same high-point hill we visited with (my now ex-gal, we no talk anymore bah.gif )

It was a Temple memorial dedicated to 5 Monks that died in a plane crash there...an absolutely beautiful Temple on top of and well kept Thai relic Museum below it...(one structure)

Been a couple years now so I cannot recall the name but great memories are still here clap2.gif

Any help naming it, link and/or a picture of it would be extremely appreciated...

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-02-01/hands-up3a-volunteers-needed-to-test-bird-flu-vaccine/4495456.

It's been known for several years that if the virus does mutate and can be passed from person to person we are in deep shit!

Very important to wash your hands regularly, especially before eating.

    Especially before eating......Birds ................ especially before eating birds with a flew.....Ahhhh Flu....biggrin.png

i FLU to Thailand TO GET AWAY from the Asian FLEW where I used live, now the IRONY is killing me metinks...blink.png

  7. would be wiser to ask every foreigners coming to Thailand to have an insurance when they apply for Visa . Many countries ask this insurance if Thais want to travel abroad. Thailand should ask the same to those who apply for Visa in their embassies.

I agree... Part of the Visa application process should be proof of medical insurance. Visa exemption stamp on arrival should be granted with proof of return flight and proof of medical insurance. Entrance Via Land border could also require a proof of medical insurance.

Perhaps - Without Proof of Medical insurance a Health Service tax on arrival would be a good form to ensure treatment is covered for tourists.

Why should Thailand insist on health insurance - currently if you get sick here as a foreigner it's your problem, no social security here and the Thai's couldn't care less - so what is your point?

Looks like you know nothing about "Social Security"

Get educated before making such a dumbass comments

I'd educate you on this but it would be a HUGE waste of my time at the impossible...have a nice strife, err, life crazy.gif

  8. When U.S. folks turn 65 they are eligible for the govt national health plan called Medicare. Medicare Part A requires no monthly premiums for most folks and covers basic in-hospital care, but you really need Part B also to cover many other medical costs to include some hospital costs and outpatient costs. You can easily end up in the poor house or not affording medical care without the Part B coverage. For 2013 the Part B monthly premium is $104.90 for most folks. Unfortunately, for U.S. expats, Medicare only covers you in the U.S.; not if you are living outside the U.S. And if you don't sign up for Medicare Part B when you turn 65, your monthly premium will be 10% higher per each year you delayed signing-up for your remaining life. Yea, a delay in your decision to sign-up for or not sign-up for Part B could get costly.

Whether to sign-up for Medicare Part B or not when turning 65 and being a U.S. expat and maybe not being 100% sure if Thailand will be your home for the remainder or you life and getting hit with much higher Medicare premiums if returning to the U.S. can probably make the Medicare sign-up decision when turning 65 a little tough for some U.S. expats.

Now, if Thailand could come up with a good medical plan for expats with monthly premiums equal to or less than Medicare Part B premium costs, then I expect some (maybe many) U.S expats would sign up for it.

Sad crap going on in USA sick.gif, citizens health care should be priority-1 then that will turn into a healthy work force which means a healthy economy and a much more healthy country...DUH annoyed.gif

    I beg to differ.

I think that in fact the quality of healthcare should be reduced in the USA.

The same way I would reduce from a Rolls to a Volkswagen.....because I should buy within my budget.

Which the US is not doing.

(I mean this selectively of course......overtesting and overdiagnosis and Pharma are the first targets. In fact of course if you enforced the best of the European models you could improve your healthcare to their standards whilst also improving your costs)

I beg to DEFER, you can argue or disagree with my opine all day long but NOT my experiences...

Health care will NEVER get better until it's a NOT-for-profit rigged system for the HMOs and their shareholders coffee1.gif

BTW MediScare's not "my" health care system anymore...

Not going to get into tit for tat over this, I could care less for the States anymore (aside from family of course).

I love Thailand now and live in a place surrounded by many who love me for who I am and my family understands that...go figureclap2.gif

Sincerely, take care and good luck to you wai2.gif

  9. Great summary Pib...

Medicare will NEVER cover expats in ANY OTHER country and Medicare/Medicaid only going to get WORSE for people in Thee States.

I will NEVER return to f'upt USA unless I'm cremated in LOS first...clap2.gif

BTW I had MediScare since I was age 47 when eligibility used to be age 62 now it's 65 soon to be 67 then 69...FACT thumbsup.gifblink.png1zgarz5.gif

Is that the proper collective noun for tourists?

I thought it was either a gaggle or a herd.

    unsure.png

I'm told that gaggle, herd or more popularly - flock, is used when the tourists are yanks.

"Yanks" you say? clap2.gifcheesy.gifclap2.gifcheesy.gifclap2.gifcheesy.gif Been there done that coffee1.gif

  10. This is an opportunity, you're looking at the future Venice of Southeast Asia.

That is, if you don't mind navigating around spent Red Bull bottles and the miscellaneous floating turd.

Not sure if you're aware, but Bangkok used to be known as "The Venice of Asia" due to all the klongs. You know, all the klongs that used to help drain off the water into the gulf but were filled in for urban development?

Here in Isaan, after the last floods, most of the canals, dykes, ditches and rivers have been, or are being dredged, deepened.... What will the advantage of this be? the rain/floods will run off much faster thus helping to alleviate flooding. Where will this run-off of excess water go to? Bangkok of course. You don't need to be an academic in water drainage technology to realise this.

Seems to me there's a PERFECT opportunity for construction companies that KNOWS how to stilt (housing) buildings...on Thai Government's tab of course hit-the-fan.gifthumbsup.gifcrazy.gifcoffee1.gif

  11. Thailand named ninth-best for retirees

    The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Thailand ranks ninth in the world as a retirement haven, according to International Living.

The publisher of retirement-oriented magazines said that, compared with Malaysia, one of two Asian destinations in the top 10, Thailand was more attractive only in terms of climate. Its final score is 82.3 points, compared with Malaysia's 89.

Ecuador was No 1 with 91.9 points.

International Living's Retirement Index ranks destinations across eight crucial categories - real estate, special retirement benefits, cost of living, ease of integration, entertainment and amenities, healthcare, retirement infrastructure and climate.

Thailand follows Ecuador, Panama, Malaysia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Colombia and Spain.
