  1. I had the same question myself as we didn't know how long we were going to stay in the uk once the visa was issued. On the VISA we put we were going on a 2 week holiday but ended up staying the full six months!

We got a six month open ticket so we could change the dates. When we both entered the uk we could produce a return ticket. After a week of being in the uk I just called the airline and changed the return flight dates.

In answer to your question it just depends on the guy behind the desk in the uk border control. If they are having a bad day it would be easy for them to say she has a one way so it's possible she might not return.

  2. This has happened a few times now and keeps coming back. The condo where I stay (D Town Inn, Chiang Mai) has been having issues with the water supply. They don't use the government water but pump water own from a well they have then deliver this to the customers rooms. After speaking with a few other farang residents of the condo we came to the conclusion that the filter system they are using to "clean" the water is no where near big enough for the volume of water it has to deal with.

A few months ago the water started coming out brown, after the residents complained for weeks they finally had a look at the system (possibly cleaned it) and the water returned to "normal". Well now its back again and they aren't doing anything about it. Numerous complaints to the condo manager and owner with no avail.

My question is what can we do about this, is there any government authority we can contact about this? We called city hall who said they can't do anything as it's not government water.

Surely there is some law in place with regards to water quality within condos? I mean can anyone just pump dirty water into paying customers room and it's totally legal?

If anyone could point me in the right direction about what we can do (if anything) I would be most grateful. I've attached a picture of the tap water this morning.

  3. Thanks very much for the prompt reply Thai Visa Express.

So basically we have the option of the 6 month tourist VISA (that cannot be extended unless extreme circumstances) or Settlement / unmarried partner VISA?

Is there anything in the middle we could apply for? Ideally we wanted maybe a year VISA but that's looking harder than I first thought.

I was under the impression that a un-married or married partner VISA was different from a Settlement VISA?! - To much reading im getting myself confused now!

Maybe education VISA might be another option for a longer trip?

EDIT - Just had another look and there is a "Fiance" VISA. Does anyone know what this involves? Do I just need to pop the question or something?!

  4. I'm looking at moving back the UK this April with my Thai girlfriend. She has already been to the UK twice with me on a general tourist VISA for both visits.

I was looking at the different options as ideally this time we want to stay longer than 6 months.

We have been together 4 years but are not married. I had a read up on here and the UKBA website about the partner VISA.

Am I correct in thinking that I need to have a job already in the UK with 18k a year salary to apply for this? Also we need to prove we have been together for over 2 years.

Would she be able to enter on a tourist VISA and then change to the partner VISA? I looked at the settlement VISA but think maybe try this later down the line. The problem is that I have been working over in Thailand the past 4 years so my salary is quite some way off what they expect!

Also upon my return to the UK I won't have a job to start with, but have a good sponsor. Do I even need the 18k a year job, or can the sponsor just vouch for us?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Hello, I am from the UK and have been living in Thailand for a few years now.My plan is now to study here at university. I have found a course that is recognised outside of Thailand and seems to hold its weight abroad.

My question is, has anybody here managed to get funding for this kinda of thing while living over here in Thailand? If so can they point me in the right direction...Any help would be great.

  6. I got mine from the iBeat store in central. 32gb with all the tax etc. was 28k

I tried DTAC at first who only seemed to have edge so I tried out AIS for a provider as I wanted proper 3G.

Been using AIS since December now and there 3G is awesome. 350baht a month for 1.5gig allowance. I might downgrade to the 150baht package as I only seem to use 350-400 mb a month!

As for features this depends on where your credit card is registered in iTunes.

For example if you are from the UK and register a UK card with iTunes, you will be taken to the UK itunes store.

The phone comes fully unlocked and ready to go. You might need a new sim card as they now use the micro sim cards.

  7. BTW, anyone to say any bad words regarding TRUE service/connection/staff?

Funny you ask. My neighbour just got true installed before I noticed my torrent speeds reduced. (I'm with TOT).

He says its up and down and all over the place with the speed.

I'm gonna see what he says in a week and maybe dump my TOT for true.

  8. One of my staff just told me that "many" redshirts are gathering in the area near Rimping ond the Duke's across the Narawat bridge from the Night Bazzar. There are also a lot of soldiers (who are hopefully there to prevent any problems).

    Can anyone confirm this?

I saw about 20 ish hanging about in the said area lastnight.

  9. I bought a second hand Acer laptop for my daughter over a year ago, its worked just fine for her.

SBC computer (laptop specialists), ground floor Computer Plaza; and they have a shop at Pantip Plaza too, 2nd floor I think.

Thanks I will check them out.

I would get a desktop but it's for my misses so I'm just after a very basic laptop with WiFi. It will only ever see facebook I would imagine so I'm not shelling out on a shiny new one better than mine!

I did think about a new phone and use the facebook app, but I would rather spend 6k on 2nd laptop than a phone.

I found a nice Acer in ICON square today but it was 6500 and he would only budge to 6000. I'll have another look at the weekend.

    Thanks all for the pointers.
