  1. Thanks for all your advice...I bought a 4gb memory

for my camera...and what I plan to do is upload on the internet

(I already have a storage place)

as well as keep them on the memory card and also possibly

burn them on my cd after transferring/copying them to my laptop...

There... that should cover all bases...LOL I am so paranoid

about losing all my holiday photos...lol...

As for my documents...I have made all copies passport/itinerary/insurance

and have gave my mum a copy...emailed myself copies...and also printed them too

    to carry with me... :o

  2. Just wondering when others go on their travels

how do they store their photos so it is not mistakenly

    erased or lost ?

Uploading onto the internet and storing them online ?

Upload to a usb storage thingy and keep that safe ?

also personal papers cameras...carry in a backpack or some waist pouch ?

  3. "Duty Free Allowance

The duty free allowance will be applied to accompanied personal effects up to Bath 10,000 worth if i) the items are intended for your own personal or professional uses; ii) the quantity are reasonable; and iii) the items are not subject to prohibition or restriction.

Does anybody ever have any problems with anything other than cigarettes and booze?

Like Customs enforcing the 10,000 baht limit on personal effects?

Geez, my camera alone is worth about 15,000 baht. Sometimes I bring my notebook PC with me too, which is worth about 30,000 baht.

Yeah, I was wondering this too. I'm returning in December for a stint and I'm bringing my laptop as usual as well as the digital camera, iPod, etc. I usually have between 100-200k baht worth of electronics in my carry on when I fly in to BKK between all of this personal use stuff. I've never once had a problem with customs as I'm pretty clearly not smuggling, but I'd hate to think that I might get yanked because some guy didn't make his rent this month.

The only story I've heard though with respect to this mirrors the guy above. A friend brought in a brand new laptop (in the box) and either had it compounded or had to pay duty, I forget. I've never heard of anyone being fined for bringing in their non-new laptops and cameras and what not. Still, it seemed worth asking.

As long as you bring your original invoices (for camera, laptop etc.) with you, there is no problem.

Thousands and thousands of people travel all over the world, including Thailand, with their camera's, laptops etc. on a daily basis.

    LaoPo

So when I bring my laptop with me

to Bangkok I will have to carry receipt

that I purchased it before ?

while my laptop is not new it looks it

as it was bought late last year...plus it

was recently fixed with new parts cause of HP

faulty known issue so everything was wiped

off of it...no personal pics or anything left

on it and I read in htis thread someone

was able to prove their laptop was old because of

family pics...seriously organizing this trip is

not as easy as it seems...

  4. I'm very glad I found this...I was going

to use the internet cafes to do my banking

as I still have to pay ultilities for back home

    when I am in Bangkok...

So one option is to bring my own laptop ?

my hotel I think does not have wifi just one

internet computer so I will have to use the internet

cafes connection with my own laptop...I really didn't

want to bring my laptop...don't want to leave it

in my room or lug it around...

Would telephone banking abroad be a better

    option ?

  5. If you are flying early July, when do you want to return to Oz?

Most of the airlines returning to Oz in August from Bangkok are now full...thanks to the Olympic Games.

I can also tell you that all the cheap seats for direct flights to and from Bangkok for July/August, have now been sold.

Hi...I have already bought and paid for my return flight from Sydney to Bangkok...

I'm departing and returning in July...not a direct flight but I wanted to land in a different

country even if I'm in the airport waiting area (only a few hours wait so not bothered)...first time overseas...:o

  6. Ended up getting my ticket

from Sydney to Bangkok return (via taipei)

for $1089aud (all taxes...flying china airlines...the cheapest airline I have found)

    departing 7th July...all other sites

were quoting $1400 or more...very happy with price :D

Also...don't be fooled to pay travel insurance from the

travel agency...they will charge you DOUBLE...they quoted

me $154 and I said no (I was informed beforehand

did my research)...I am buying it off the net for $79 :o (2 week cover)

The mob they were quoting for insurance has it for $82 on their site

and the travel agent they wanna charge me $154

    for same insurer...read:commision !!

Same as another travel agent they first quote me $1036 return flight to Bangkok

then come back saying they *read* rules wrong...add another $130...I said

no I can find cheaper and I did...

    Pays to shop around...research...save $$$

oh yeh just wanted to add...the place I got my flights from they had it

for $1180...the minute it went down $100 I jumped at it...been checking all the sites everyday

  7. I'm heading over to Bangkok in July...

I have heard good reviews of Samran Place Hotel which is

not too far from MBK...BTS and the Platinum mall

which I heard was good for clothes shopping etc...

and close to the sightseeing stuff

It's cheap and clean...and since I want most of my money

for shopping...it's a bargain...asiarooms.com (read reviews on there) have the

cheapest price 795baht inc breakfast...cheaper then Samran own website...

    good luck

  8. Hi,

(sorry I meant PJ Watergate in heading)

Just wondering which one is better ?

I know both are in good location...

Samran standard room costs 795thb (breakfast inc)

PJ Watergate standard room costs 985thb (breakfast inc)

Wondering whether PJ Watergate is worth the

    extra cost...?

Any experiences with the rooms ?

  9. I think I'm gonna wait until early June...

I suggest that you check with your preferred airline first. From memory, early June is either high or shoulder season for airfares. Low season commences mid July and extends through to mid September.

Prices vary quite considerably for the different seasons.

Also, most of the airline companies are about to raise their fees in accordance with rising fuel costs.

Is that for booking ? or traveling ? or both ?

I'm not traveling until early july or mid at the latest...

  10. Thanks for all your replies...

I think I'm gonna wait until early June...

but will scan the various airlinesagents online for

any deals everyday...plus I am subscribed via email

    to numerous websites...

I read a good time is around 4 weeks before departure

and usually on a tuesday or wednesday to fly out are the

cheapest as well as to buy...can't say that's 100% accurate but

considering flights out for may june tuesday wednesday was from

$999 with taxes and now is $1065 this thursday...

By the way tigerairways is cheap if you live in PERTH...I could have

booked a ticket return all taxes for $593 aq couple of days ago (flight was $87 one way and tax was like $200something oneway)

or something but the domestic fees from sydney to perth were ridiculous plus times were too close...

I had a quick look over...

  11. Hello.

I'm planning to go to Thailand this June on the 20th. And I'm wondering should I book and organise my tour at home (Sydney) or just buy flight tickets and organise tour when I get to Thailand.

I'm planning to go to Bangkok and Pattaya, that's it (family :D ) and any other cities anyone could suggest would be appreciated. :o

I just want info on Pattaya and Bangkok tours. Oh and it's going to be 2 people me and my sis. Hope I get some feedback with helping me, thanks.

    Hi,

I'm heading to Thailand in early July...about the 8th...I am gonna

do a couple of tours I think and I'm gonna try and do it in Thailand...

I think the deals with the airlines are probably rip off prices...they got to

make money right ? So I think myself I'm just gonna write down what I want to see

look online for any thailand websites and work out whats the best

and cheapest way...have you looked at this site ? Not sure if they are cheap though...

    http://www.hotelthailand.com/thailand-acti...ng/bangkok.html

plan your own itinerary for tours

    http://www.tourismthailand.org/itinerary/

have you bought your flight tickets yet ? Who you going with ?

I'm waiting to see if any deals come up...probably none...lol

Yeah they're a ripoff, and yes they do make money from it. Part of their commission. They make sales = bonuses on their pay check. Anyway, I'm booking around late next week. My first option is student flights but i'm shopping around for any better deals. Though it says on their website flights start from around $651 with British airways, but i don't think insurance, and other things are included. Oh and i'm going with my sister :D

    http://www.studentflights.com.au/

The May deals were great pity I couldn't travel then

it was like around $550 or something with taxes...

  13. Hi kaye,my advise would be to pay for the trips rather than go alone.thai guys are no more dangerous than most guys in the world except for one thing.they behave like little boys when rejected and have a bad habit of being crazy subhuman creatures at times with no respect for life, including their own.

after speaking to many thai ladies my obsvervation is they are far worse than europeans for having different girlfriends(forgot the thai word) and cannot be trusted.

Thailand can be an amazing place but i feel, after 5 years here in pattaya, it is imploding and cannot get better only worse.I would not like to be a woman coming to pattaya but if you do be careful with exposed jewelry and handbags.

    Hi thanks for the replies...

I would be just staying around the bangkok area...just where

the main tourist attractions but not pattaya or the night life...

I will be staying in at night...but that's what I planned anyway...

Oh for christ's sake don't listen to all the oooh the terrible Thai men will get you, better stay nice and safe in your room with a cup of bloody cocoa crowd. I've been travelling around here, frequently alone, cities, beaches and villages, for the past ten years and had a couple of silly buggers trying the come on. But NOTHING as compared to the flashers and foul mouthed yobs I used to have to endure on returning from a night out in my home country.

Yeh true I get drunk guys following me home sometimes on

a night out...I just tell them to piss off and they piss off lol...

probably not wise but oh well...

I'm not going to Thailand for the night life...

have no real interest in the bars not on my own anyway...

Have you got any suggestion that I could do on my

own at night...like theatre or cinema or something...

I wouldn't mind a few times out at night...

  15. I am a woman that will be traveling to Thailand in

    the next couple months alone

spending one week touring the popular tour

places some shopping included...I won't be visiting any remote secluded

areas...was thinking of going on the *tours* they may have

instead of going it alone...And also after the week

holiday spending one week recovering from surgery there...

Should I now have something to worry about ?

This will be my first trip there...

  16. Thanks for your replies...

Yes I agree for the reason why the doc needs a deposit...

to make sure I come...as what he also said...implants are not free they

have to buy them and get them sent especially since Tokai don't stock my large implant size...

I've done much research...he is giving me a reasonable price...some thai

hospitals wants $3900us just for the large implants and even one hospital wanted to

charge about $8000usd for a lift and augmentation...I'm not dumb I know what the costs

are really worth in Thailand...farangs do get charged more but some hospitals are taking

    advantage...

As for Bumrungrad, I was going to go through them had appointment for surgery

made and all with Dr teerasit (really good doc) but at the last minute (I assumed they had all sizes) I asked what

is the largest he used and it was 500cc...not big enough...so... not many Thai docs like to use large

implants they are conservative...I have emailed many...Yahnee charge $2000usd for under 400cc

over 500cc it is $3900usd...I'm pretty sure the implant prices are the same for all the sizes...one price...

so why Yahnee charges more I don't know...I think I have emailed every hospital clinic that is known in Thailand...

Anyway I go to Thailand a week before my surgery so I will be able to meet up with the doctor

before surgery...check out his clinic and I'm sure I will be happy with my decision...

  17. Thanks for your replies...

The doctor in question is American board certified in cosmetic surgery...

    I checked...http://www.cosmeticsurgery.org/Patients/searchdetails.asp?id=103005

    http://www.cosmeticsurgery.org/Patients/co...surgeryfaqs.asp

Also...I told him I was not comfortable in sending money to him and

would prefer to pay when I arrived...he replied back and said that is fine

to pay when I arrive at the clinic and they will get the dealer to send the implant to the clinic

he will make sure the dealer stocks the implant (because don't hold that size in stock)

It's Mentor brand...which I know is a very popular american company for implants...

And I've read up on it from mentors site...

He just said that I need to email my itinerary...to confirm the company for ordering

    my implants for me...

I've heard good things about him...on other boards from people who have gone to him

    ...good surgeon...clean pristine clinic...modern technologies...

I'm getting silicone hp unders...transaxillary incision...

  18. I've chosen a doctor (Dr Pat from Tokai clinic)

to do a breast augmentation and I am getting a larger (650 or 700 cc)

size and he said it's a special size so he has to order from the dealer in advance...

I was given a paypal account...which is connected through my credit card

...don't think my credit card provider would do a chargeback if something

    went wrong for a *service*...

My surgery date is not until mid July and I live overseas...I'm wondering is it wise

to deposit the amount $1000us (30,000baht) having not met the doctor ?...has anyone

gone through a situation like this ? I understand if I want the larger size

    they got to order it...but...

I thought they would pre-order themselves and I would

just pay the full amount when I arrived in Thailand at the clinic...

    Anyone have any advice ?

    Thanks for your reply.

He also gave me his bank account details.

As for the implant size...I had large breasts before due to breast feeding

    so I have enough tissue...

the whole procedure is about $2690 australian dollars or 85000 baht...

I have a few other doctors in mind I might see what they have to say about

    ordering implants of this size...

    Thanks again...

where can you get the procedure for 30000 baht ? I have emailed

at least 15 or so doctors hospitals and its alwats been around 90000 BAHT to 180000 baht
