  1. Hi i was after any advice on getting our friend into Australia on a work visa or full migration. My wife and i are wanting our friend of 4 years to come live with us in Brisbane. She is 29 and completed schooling on hairdressing in Phuket Town,Phuket, a total of 840 hours schooling. She is currently working as a licenced tour guide in Phuket and speaks good English.I belive hairdressing is on the shortage of skills list for visas in Australia so am thinking this will be the best way to go.Can we sponsor her or does it have to be a relitive. She has a 8 Yr old daughter and as per the norm no Thai father around to help. The daughter will stay with family until she has settled.Any advice please... Might be looking for work sponsers in the hair industry in Brisbane if there is anyone out there...Thanks

  2. Jamie,

Great idea! My name is Alex and I am in Thailand right now and just about ready to start the exact same business you mentioned. I've been here for six months now researching it. I disagree with most of the other postings.

For example, I have moved to Chiangmai, which is north of Bangkok 10 hours and even cheaper. The complete costs to register and set up a new business here is about $3,000 US.

It is true that few people speak English and even fewer speak it well. But I am only one man and I don't need 1000 telemarketers. I will start with two people and expand from there. There is a college campus here and I will recruit English speaking Thais from there. I would never hire expats because that wipes out much of the cost savings

Office space and computers are cheap. A website can be set up through Yahoo business for $60 US for three months, then I will pay a local developer little money to improve it. Landline phone quality is great. Yes, I will have to pay about $5 US per hour for the overseas calling, my target market being America, because that is where I am from. But since I will bill at $25-30 US per hour, pay around $5 per hour or less for staff, there is a huge profit margin. After doing the initial setup - I start next week, I will need to coldcall a new client.

If you want the chat about ideas, my number here is 66-80-790-2970. My email is [email protected]. Hope to hear from you and bounce around some ideas to improve both of our plans!

  4. Hi Jamie i have been thinking along the same lines.I have a freind here in Australia selling Photocopier toners.Although she is turning a profit im sure a cut in labour costs would help.I was looking at doing the sales from Kohn Kaen and still distrubiting from suppliers in Aust.At around $200 per day per person here.I dont want to make millions just live a comfortable life in Issan.Im sure i could get english speaking Thais for less in a university town.Any thoughts?

  5. You are sure right!! My lady for sure wasted none of her time and got straight to the point.. :D ..basically "take care of me!". She is genuinely a lovely lady but it is really off putting to find out so directly that you are the meal ticket. The "beaten track" I meant was to her house.....main road--local road--side road--dirt road--track--drive---finally the house!! :D

I believe I have learned a lot about the blood suckers over the years and hope I can still spot and avoid them. Buit who knows? There are good ones for sure but it is a pity there are not that many who are willing to meet farangs.

As to Issan territory...I really liked it. It just felt good and relaxed. So in the immortal words of that great white leader Arnold Schwarzenegger "I'll be back". The hammock of yours sounds like it gets used a lot!! :D I have to improve my swinging skills as I usually end up in a heap. :D

There are a lot of girls willing to meet farangs. The unattached guys that drift in from time to time never stay on their own for long. I'm sure that most of the girls are genuine. I think most just need security and stability in their lives rather than being out and out gold diggers. Trust your feelings and don't rush too quickly into buying and building and you'll be fine.

I have to come clean and admit that I lied about the hammock :o My trees aren't strong enough yet but I reckon I'll be there soon. Rather than trying to share my questionable experience, I was trying to get to 100 posts before turning in. Now I've reached that and promotion to "senior member" I can relax and sink back into obscurity once more. :D

:D Just on the taking care side of things. How much money should i be sending to her each month. This is my first foray into the Thai G/F sceene.I do like this girl and want her to be comfortable but not like a bloody QUEEN.She lives in Srisuk about 2 hours east of Kohn Kaen with her 2 teenage kids and shells out 2000 baht a month for a bike.Pays no rent as house is from bastard who left 3 years ago and sends no money for the kids as usual.I been with her for 3 months and will be back again in August for 3 months.I cant wait.....
