The Thai nation is being so overly cautious, they are easentially writing a death certificate for the tourism industry.

The longer this goes on, the harder it will be to get the tourists to come back, once they finally make up their minds that they want tourists to return. Tourism was already in a state of decline before Covid, with bookings, and arrival of quality tourists (people who spend real money here) way down. Now? Millions will be out of work long term.

IATA has already told govts around the world ,that they will not get people flying anywhere if they have to do 14 day quarantines on arrival .Added Thailand requirements ,$100,000 health insurance policy .etc will stop most tourists coming to Thailand. It will be just easier to go elsewhere for holiday.

So your condo pool usage data (anecdotal) would be the same for all condos, swimming pools, public baths and spas across Thailand.  Therefore we should open up everything because your pool only has three people swimming at once (that you have seen).

Australia closed pools.  UK closed pools. Can't be bothered checking but I am sure many more countries have closed pools.  But let's open them all up because you have only seen three people at a time in yours.  Very sensible, very logical.

Since  the Corona virus appeared nobody has ever caught it from a swimming pool .

Precisely. I have given all the known data to CDC, and yet they still say "no".

I go to pools and beach to swim ,saltwater no danger and pools with the correct treatment amount of chlorine will kill any germ . Unfortunately in Thailand they have no swimming culture and they think and use pools and beaches as a gathering place to eat and drink ,hence the bans. Complete lack of knowledge and ignorance!

  4. Only naive tourists go to Phuket. You can have a guided tour of Pattaya for 10 baht with a jet-ski ride thrown in.

I've lived in both Pattaya and Phuket and I'd rather live here in Phuket hands down. Each to their own.
    they are both garbage dumps!
  5. We found a company that deals with Thai visas who are getting our extension so we don't need to go to Immigration in person. We just took our passports and photo - they took copies and filled in all the forms for us and will be ready to pick up tomorrow. The cost was 1200 baht each for the service which is quite a lot of money, but for us, worth it to avoid the hassle. If anyone wants the name of the company, PM me.

Yes please i would like the contact details of this company ,i need to do extension.

  6. Australian arrested for posting pictures of a woman on the Internet

    By Staff Reporter

PATTAYA: -- : Australian man charged with posting explicit photographs on the internet

Local authorities report that they have arrested a local Australian Expat, after a warrant was issued for his arrest, for posting photographs of an un-named Local national woman on the Internet, without her permission, “which resulted in her reputation being tarnished.”

The man, a 56 year old local amateur sportsman , was arrested in a bar in East Pattaya after confirming that the personal details on the warrant did, indeed, pertain to him.

He has, however, denied all the accusations against him.

It is assumed that the woman is currently a Rayong resident, since he has been removed to the police station there for further enquiries.

....... This is a setup for sure.
  7. In Thailand there is no health and safety standards that are internationally recognized. People should be aware of when visiting Thailand one should be over cautious and sharp minded with focus to one safety. My heart goes out to the young mans family - Tragic indeed!

. That's the reason more tourists die in Thailand every year than any other country, they are naive and ignorant of the dangers .Thai tourism advertising does not warn them of the dangers on the contrary they promote it as a safe friendly destination.
  8. I assume you both either work or have close friends/relatives that work at the labour office that can confirm your statements..................probably not, so it may come as a shock to you that timeshare companies provide work permits for their foreign employees

Been in patong for 17 years, not once has a work permit been produced to me when I always requested it. That's why about 60 of them were arrested and deported 5-6 years ago , same needs to be done again.

  9. People need to be aware that according to British consular officials, Thailand is the most dangerous tourist destination for British tourists.

I'm continually surprised at the lack of adequate warnings for visitors to Thailand from the British Embassy and FCO.

Agree totally. Fact is there are more tourists killed or die in Thailand than any other country in the world, a lot of the deaths caused by ignorance of the dangers , something the authorities do not warn them about.we all know the reason why!

  10. RIP & condolences to his family and friends. Bad way for a life to come to an end.

On something of a side issue, it seems like there isn't a day that goes by when you don't read about someone being shot, knifed, beaten, raped, robbed, or a suspicious "suicide" happening in Phuket or Pattaya. I'll take Chiang Mai any time.

There are more tourists killed in Thailand every year than any other country.

check the statistics, majority being mostly victims of transport accidents and crime .

  11. Oh come on. Thailand is as safe as most places in the world if not safer. Wait a year or two until the depression has bitten into every urban centre in the world and then you'll see what trouble is ! Stop moaning about Thailand and enjoy the amusing posts earlier in this thread.

Fact,Thailand is the most dangerous country a tourist can visit. There are more tourists killed or die in Thailand every year than any other country in the world.

  12. Stupid! Stupid!! Stupid!!! The Police, The Thai government, and that abomination of a bar owner. I am sure that someone so unaustralian could not possibly be an Australian .This moron should have "Dick Head" Tatooed on his forhead. Surely he will be auctioning all his bloody precious bar mats soon. To say nothing of common sense, good manners, and plain good business sense . I am embarassed to be Aussie when I see this wanke_r perform. He should also take note that as the woman hadn't left the premises with his precious bar mat she certainly hadn't stolen it , and may well have great cause for a massive damages action against Dopey! But she should get in quick. because I can hear the value of his bar crashing from here in Aus..... the noise must be bloody deafening in Thailand . :)

Advanced member over there in Australia, I have to tell you the Aussie bar is full every night, full of other Aussie Yobos just like her and her group.

  13. Once again I ask, where were the oft-mentioned Foreign Tourist Police Volunteers when all of this chaos was occurring? Isn't providing assistance to foreigners during this the very sort of incident the reason usually given for why that they exist?

NO, the creation and the existence of the foreign tourist police is for show and publicity purposes only.

  14. This will not be "another blow to tourism" as some have suggested. Street crime is rampant in most urban areas here. Bangkok continues to be one of the most dangerous places in the world. Either you accept the facts or bury your head in the sand and hope you do not become a victim.

Stress brought on by the well publicized problems unique to Thailand and the current global economic crisis will cause crime to continue to rise. This is simply one of hundreds of violent crimes that occur in Thailand everyday. This one could not be covered up because a foreigner was tragically brought into the story.

I disagree with that. In fact it is still one of the safest cities in the world. Compare Bangkok with Manila, Rio de Janeiro, Phnom Phen, Los Angeles... only to mention a few

I agree, Bkk is still a safe city compared to many others, if we look at our own back yards first and see the crime rates we have?.

after 17 years in Thaialnd i feel safe - what we forget killings are part of our culture well before the bible was written.

    shame the bystander got hit.

I have visited all the above quoted places several times ,and yes you have to be careful there but there is still more TOURISTS killed in Thailand every year than any other country ,crime related deaths are only part of the number added to the transport related deaths.

  15. moral to the story(?) if you see Thai people arguing, stay clear.

If it appears they're drunk and there are weapons involved, duck for cover.

However, on the other side of the coin, there are some among us who might be inclined to step in to try and rescue someone being browbeat. pedestrianus emptor.

Hope they caught the a**hole with the gun - and get him to suffer the full weight of the law.

This happened in Pattaya a few years ago, 2 brits pulled a thai off a restarant owner that was getting slapped,, he returned later with a gun and killed 2 of them, as advised elsewhere, keep out of thai arguments, they dont value life as we do and dont consider the consequences of their actions, . :)

Thais do value life when they are sober and calm. What's frightening are the petty things that can take that calmness away. There are violent people everywhere in the world. Thailand is probably unique in that even a sarcastic remark or a caring criticism can get you killed by people who are not even gangsters by any stretch of the imagination.

So true, unfortunately for tourists in Thailand they do not know that.

  16. Does anyone know a place where I can get affordable, introductory-level Thai language lessons, preferably form an English-speaking instructor?

Yes,i can recommend ,Learn Thai with Lah..tel,0861938768. I have had Thai lessons in Bangkok and Phuket as well as Chiang Mai and she was the best of them all and cheaper, she is very hard working and conscientious of the results you achieve and i found her system not difficult and enjoyable. One tip ,she is normally quite busy in the high season so best to contact her a bit before you plan to study...chok dee.
