  1. I rarely post but must say I have to agree with SBK. I have been living with my Thai husband for about 8 years and he is a hard working, caring, compassionate human being; as are many of our male and female Thai neighbors. On a side note to Carry, I have thought about you a lot since your post and even though we don't know each other I have been sending you love, hope and strength.

  2. Thanks a lot Junglechef and Tywais!

I had thought about inquiring on the university campuses as well, but it really helps knowing beforehand. I'll head over to CMU next week. It's not a big job at all but I just want to make sure the tree is not damaged.

Take care and thanks again for your help. :-)

  3. I am not sure if there is already a thread running on this topic....I did a search but didn't see the info I am loolking for.

I am helping a friend who is back in Canada with her boyfriend's visa application.

With regards to the 'proof of financial support' does she need to show her own bank statement or deposit money into his Thai bank account?

We have all of the other docs completed. House Registration, Letter from Employer, Temporary resisdent forms, School certificate, Invitation Letter, etc., but does anyone know if correspondence, such as emails, are helpful or necessary to include with the application......

Many thanks in advance for any advice...

  4. This happened a few years ago in Pai, where a bunch of musicians were arrested for playing at various bars. An immigration officer had a meeting with a few of them after receiving complaints and he mentioned the musicians could get an ENTERTAINMENT VISA.

I am not sure if anyone actually went to apply for one but you might consider going to the immigration office here in Chiang Mai and asking about it. It might be a super easy solution to the problem. It would be great if it is as simple as filling out a form and then you guys/gals could all be protected.

  5. Does anybody know if there was an eclipse tonight? I thought it was a UFO at first but not sure. I saw what looked like a sliver of the moon. It was a bright orange-reddish hue in the west and then it just slowly disappeared. Another friend of mine also saw it but has no idea what it was either. Anybody else see it or know what it was?

  6. You're probably right about the pollution but I was checking it out too. The sky this evening reminded me of how it often looks during or rather just before a tornado in parts of the US.

I also noticed the sunrise this morning that seemed really surreal. I was actually really pretty.

  7. Does anyone know where I can buy bee propolis in Chiang Mai?

Also can you tell me if it is in the local honey that you can buy around town? I'm not even sure as to what it is exactly..as you might notice

    Thanks a lot!!

  8. I just watched the news coverage. By now I should be used to the graphic closeups in Thailand, and the casual even smiling faces of workers as they went about the task of bagging up bodies. But is there no respect for the dead ?? Allowing random onlookers at the scene was too much for me and I stopped watching. My Thai family, fatalistic as ever, thought it was bad, but were not that bothered. 2,000 foetuses maybe !! Apart from all the issues about abortion, the news coverage of this type of event leaves me speechless. There are some things about Thailand I will not get used to.

Tim..... I could not agree with you more. I watched the news as well last night with my husband. He is Thai. I could not believe my eyes. He wasn't shocked at all, but thought it was a bit too much. (probably because I was freaking out) I still cannot comprehend what the benefit of showing that footage could possibly be. I have lived here for many years and that by far outweighs anything I have ever seen on so many levels. The lack of discussion it provokes freaks me out just as much as the producer who allows it aired. I do not believe in censorship but this was beyond censorship in my opinion. And the main comment from the news anchor that we watched was his disbelief that this could happen in Thailand. That raises so many issues by itself about reality and how in denial some people are. Anyway, being a strong supporter of legal abortion and a woman's right to choose, has little to do with the lack of humanity, I feel I just witnessed.

  9. So actually this is a very decent person. Instead of destroying them he is putting them in a temple. Maybe the police have nothing better to do, maybe he did not pay off our upstanding men in brown, but the problem is not this man but the abortion clinics. Actually Abortion should be legal anyhow, Wondering when they arrest someone for killing 86 people in a Bangkok neighborhood.... talking about double standards/

I totally agree with you mythBuster!!

  10. You've got to try Charlie and Leks. It's before the police station on the same side of the street and they have a nice garden area out back and wonderful Thai food. Most of the veggies come from their own organic garden!!
