  1. Wondering if I'm asking in the right place to tap the community's knowledge, but maybe a tangent from the OP. If I should be starting a separate topic, please let me know.

I'm hoping to find an automatic gate system that looks like roller garage door system laid on its side.

A YouTube videos shows an example

In our case, the approach and ramp angle in the narrow-ish Soi, and limited front yard space makes this gate ideal for our situation... If I can find a dealership, in Bangkok.

    I do appreciate any suggestions.

  2. take a family holiday somewhere you just need a little change for a while.

I second that. It works for my wife who gets excited about long weekend holidays to the ocean. For both her and I, but more so something special for the kids... Kind of gives life back to a connection we share.

I've read it mentioned elsewhere in TV, that your suggestions/ideas/comments are invalid to Thais however right you might be, and will not be considered until after much of their own reflection and thinking. Ultimately coming to the conclusion you offered but has somehow become their own!

Precisely why that is I don't know, but I did once confront her that that is what she did, and she just looked at me stunned and said, "yes, correct."!!

Maybe let her know there's an opportunity for a family holiday, make suggestions, and ask her to get back to you for her plan?

As for me, married 8 years with wife who is the same age, and we have 2 young kids together also.

She comes from the most loving and really generous family, and neither of us are perfect but I'd say we do our best for each other.

My biggest issues would be she's only once put to paper a budget, the rest is in her head, and she often answers a question with a question. It can drive me up the wall sometimes, but then I send her up the wall in my own way too....

Good luck with making that connection with your wife.

  3. At 1635 Sunday 18th it took less than 25 minutes from arrival at airport to sitting in Burger King! It was good to see that they have introduced the new queuing system that stops people standing three and four abreast and switching lines. Simple but effective!

I was impressed also. I got to the airport at 2pm, 4 hours ahead of departure time and had to keep busy for 3 and a half hours after getting through immigration...

  4. That's all not the problem,if I travel to other countries like UAE,Malaysia,Singapore or back to Europe, the passport control takes 1-2minutes per person, sometimes less than that, here in Thailand it takes 3-5 min.i think Thai immigration officers are afraid to make a mistake,or maybe their computer is outdated

my experience going through outbound immigration 5-6 times these past 4 months or so... on monday mornings around 7am, the fast officers have been doing about 40seconds per passenger and the slow ones around a minute, and rarely beyond 2 minutes. yes, i did time these and no, i didn't have anything better to do in the line laugh.png

i agree it can feel like 3-5min per passenger or maybe officers are actually slower later in the day...

  5. Does anybody know where Polish currency (zloty) can be exchanged in BKK?

I did a quick search of TV, but didn't come up with anything.

I usually use jc near ploenchit, but they don't handle it, and online rates from Thai banks didn't list the currency either...

    Thanks.

  6. All get only three months single entry in Penang when applying for first time.

Your friend must now get a WP and return to Penang for 1 year multiple Non-B

Having to go out of Thailand twice?  is this new proceedure?

I remember going out only once, get a single entry Non-B at the Thai embassy, enter Thailand, then the shiela in the office took care of it.  I think she took relevant docs to immigration where they stamped the passport as "under consideration, visa valid till ****" After consideration (no undertable stuff), they gave me 3 months, then 6 months, then 1 year visas after that, and never having to exit Thailand for each renewal.

When going out of Thailand, I'd get a re-entry visa to keep the current visa valid.

  7. Is this special offer available to those going from Sydney to Bangkok return? Is tax, insurance etc included though?

It seems it's for Bangkok-Australia return only.  I read your post topic and then totally forgot about it while writing my first reply... appologies.  Price THB23850 I got is BKK-Perth Net.

Fares for Syd-Bkk are at https://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_AU/offerspromotions/offerdetails?refID=125a57d921afb010VgnVCM10000010d21c39____&priority=&counter=1&ENTRYPOINTURL=&SPOFFER_NOMINEE=&from1=SYD&to1=BKK

but are expensive.  Rooo's $1006 on SIA seem cheaper.

  8. My last work involved a Japanese restaurant.  They had foreign chefs and hall service managers, all with proper WP (described as working as chefs or managers) and required taxes, social security fees etc. paid each month.  The company had the required registered capital and local staff numbers also.  Education wise, the foreigners mostly had highschool certificates but had experience in the restaurant & service industry.

I don't know whether the type of restaurant/bar (eg. Thai/foreign, big establishment/stall) will influence your chances of getting a WP, but my humble opinion is that they would give you the WP if your company says they need you.

Hope this is usefull in some way.
