  1. Hello to the faithful out there.

I've heard tickets maybe required. I know that it sounds stupid but on the web and the chiang mai site it staes that tickets are advised. Don't hold me to it, but there is a security risk due to Newin Chidchob. It's his team that we are playing, and if you know of him you will understand why. On the forums, they say that there may be quite a few away fans. My advice is to get a ticket, I don't think its all ticket, but the club are advising fans to buy one. I can only think its due to security checks getting into the game. If anyone has any more info then please post it. Even if it's just a rumor.

    Yours Faithly

    EAST SIDE NORMALS

  2. What's your view on double or even triple pillion riders. It's quite a common sight around town, so I was thinking that the skill level of the pillion riders would have to be high to perform such tricks. Legs dangling, no where to hold on to, the bum getting a battering from the hand rail as the rider happily speeds across bumps in the road. The skill needed is high. The Thais have master this art, so maybe if your club gets going, you could include a 'Extreme Pillion riders' chapter, for the double and triple pillion riders.

  3. I am English and I like everything you do, but if your after new ideas, talk to an Ozzy. I spent quite a bit of time there and I was surprised at there pie selections, chilly cheese, steak and cheese, Full English breakfast pies, the list goes on.. At first I thought chilly and cheese, weird. But now I'd say Chilly and Cheese. Tasty. Ask an Ozzy, they'd know more than me.

  4. Dear Mr Pillion,

My missus is normally the pillion when I'm riding and she constantly finds a way to fall asleep when I riding along the road. All of a sudden there is a extra weight on my back and I just know its the missus. She also enjoys trying to feed me all sorts of wonders as I'm tanking along at 90k's an hour. Both these problems can potential cause an accident and I was wondering what your thoughts are on the matter. Is there any skills she could possibly learn to help her sleep and eat while riding pillion.

  5. I think such a poll was already done once before. Can't remember the results.

Yeah, there are a lot of expats in CM who are elderly. And a lot of those are on Thai Visa.

But thinking logically, that is normal. Usually it is retired people, with money, who can afford to stay year-round.

The next biggest age group I would guess are the 20-30 somethings who are teaching English, etc.

The 30-50 age group probably the fewest, IMO. Expat small business owners married to Thai nationals, missionaries with families, etc.

We always get these threads every year or so from the younger members who like to take a sly dig at the oldsters.

I'll admit, the food court next to Tops in KSK should probably install oxygen tanks and defibrillator units- sometimes looks like a VFW chapter comprised of veterans from the Boer War in there....

Thanks a lot. Nice to see a good answer to a good question.

It tickles me when I see some of the posts posted on this site. It sometimes reminds me of a film called ' Grumpy Old Men'. It's all good fun. So for all the golden oldies that use this site. I love you, the world loves you and Thai Visa loves you. Keep the sad, funny, boring, pointless, caring, amusing posts coming.

Not to be taken in offence.

  6. What set tuskers apart from all the other westernized bars in town. Nothing.

What <deleted>. It did have something that the others don't: quality and a better clientèle. Not everyone wants to aim for the bottom of the barrel, so to speak. I'd personally rather fail than have to lower my standards and look at mouthbreeders all day. Location and the state of tourism in general are perhaps the main factors against success.

I agree with you totally, apart from the fact that you said you would rather fail than to lower your standards. Business is business at the end of the day, and if your saying you would rather fail, then you don't know business at all. All I was saying was that there is too much competition in town for the bars that offer the same services as tuskers did, and with the current situation in Thailand, the market clientele of these bars is getting less and less every week. So businesses need to offer something different from all the others. You can't tell me that in realistic terms, that the old Tuskers offered any thing different to the U.N, Old Bell, Red Lion, Queen Vic, The Pub, The Half Moon Etc. Roughly the same prices, same food, same in house pub games, same live sports, so can you please tell me why its <deleted>, when I said nothing set Tuskers apart from all the other westernized bars in town.

  7. We not all have to sell Singha or Chang Beer to make a living.

Get some imagination a little bit, there are a lot of things to do in CM...

What planet are you on! We are talking about a bar, this thread is about a bar. So thanks for your quote. Stop using your imagination and turn the computer off and get out of the house, because my friend TUSKERS did and in the near future will sell SINGHA,and CHANG.

My father used to say to me. If you've got nothing worth saying. Don't say anything at all.

  8. looks like the Chiang Mai forum has a lot of entrepreneurs with great entrepreneurial ideas.

Who say's I don't already have four successful businesses already, but unlike most I decided a long time ago that the only way to keep a reliable source of custom is to target the Thai market. There's no money in businesses that accommodate foreigners at the minute in Thailand and if anyone says different, then get off your arse, drive out of your moo baan and take a look around town. I thought it would be nice to give someone a nice idea to try and do something that only one place in town offers. Good food,Good beer, Great price! But obviously people on TV who sit on their computers all day moaning about every little thing they can think of, because they have nothing better to do with their sad lives, know better then me. Good Luck to the new owners of Tuskers.

  9. Tuskers was a terrible business. I can only feel sorry for the amount of money the owner lost by walking away from it. But thats what happens when you've got no idea on how to make money. It's in the wrong place for his target clientèle. If I was the new owner, I'd have cheap booze like the gecko garden, good cheap food like the gecko garden, but unlike the gecko garden I'd stomp around the backpacker areas and the night market and get the people in. People don't mind paying 60baht for a TukTuk if there going to save 400baht on their bill. I just hope the new owner doesn't follow the same path as the last, normal tourist prices for food and drink. What set tuskers apart from all the other westernized bars in town. Nothing. If its going to work at the new tuskers, they have to offer something that others don't.

  10. If you want a Gym in that area of town, its got to be Fitness Thailand, which is located behind icon square. If its a fitness centre you're after, then Central Duang Tawan is best for you in that area. FT doesn't offer a pool and the steam and sauna rooms a not up to a high standard, but it has by far the best free weights and machines then any other gym in town.

  11. There are plenty of places to get a Sak Yant done, but many will not do westerns that have no knowledge of the power, beliefs and rules that come along with having one of these tattoo's done. Most of these places are very hard to find, but if you do find them, they will be true Sak Yants. Not the kind that have been made popular by the likes of Jolie and her mates. Best tip, go to the Muay Thai camps out of town and ask them to point you in the right direction. True Sak Yants are hard to find, but thats what make them special. Good luck

  12. Well done Chiang Mai F.C. looking forward to the Playoffs now. They should fall in the school holidays, so hopefully i can get down to the away games. Anyone know who we are likely to play and the dates.

  13. I've finally had my flags sent over after nearly 3 years of following Chiang Mai. There wasn't much point before as I was normally the only falang when it was Chiang Mai United, but this seasons changes has seen a massive increase in supporters, Falang and Thai. Please View the attached file

  14. Is anyone aware that there is an international boxing match here in Chiang Mai on Friday 3rd. I believe its the defending of the WBC Strawweight Division. I can only find out that its on at a place called Kad Choeng Doi. Does anyone have any more information about this topic. Myself and a few friends really want to go, but I can't find any more details on this. Any help would be brilliant.

  15. There is a small Hill tribe hostel for children that i pass everyday to go to work. Its just off the Lampun road in Nong Hoi. I will post the details tomorrow if your still intrested.

  16. I'm currently in chiang mai and i'm looking to open a bar. I know the hi's and lows of the bar business in thailand, but i'm unsure what to do in reguards to putting my name to a bar and what way is the best to obtain an visa to stay in thailand on the 12 month visa. I've heard about a limited company and limited partnerships but that looks like it can get tricky in places. I've got a long term thai girlfriend and i was told most people put bars in their girlfriend names but how does that affect the visa situation, and also where do i stand in reguards to the business, any help would be greatly approved
